I think most of desi people are not comfortable to take names of ladies in their family in public. May be its also link with chastity. Interestingly, Arabs had / has this traditions of naming their daughters as Umm e Kulthoom, etc
In our culture, this has to do with the fact that if you are asking about someone, it is taken to mean that you know them. Given that women socialising with random unrelated men is very frowned upon in our culture, if a man asks about a woman, people begin to wonder how and how intimately they know each other.
oh achchhaa lolz…tasleemaat kaa bhii kia Khoob concept hai hamaare mo’aashare meN…bechaariyaaN hamaare salaam se bhii maHroom haiN. yeh muNh bolaa bhai [jaise Bollywood meN huaa kartaa hai] mauq’a milte hii shauhar ban jaate haiN! aise bhaaiyoN se sabhii ‘hamsheeraaoN’ ko moHtaat rahnaa chaahiye.
is rishte ke silsile se ek hamaare 'ilaaqe kii kahaavaT hai jise ham yahaN bayaan nahiiN kar sakte!
I think each society goes through a period when women are stuffed into their homes and like a spring they emerge outside because they're pushed in too far especially in societies where men are allowed khuli chuti. Either standardise the level of chastity across genders or stop expecting women to go above and beyond.
I've seen in this in Pakistan so much that the brothers are allowed free reign to have as many girlfriends as possible and their sisters sit at home. And then the infamous boys in our social circle get married to the naik parveens. Ajeeb dil hota hai Yeh dekh kar especially for the girls who're saddled with these guys.
@ Muqwee…in olden days, and in isolated cases even now, wives did not call their husbands by their names [ae jii, lo hii, suno jii YA Munne ke Abba, Munni ke Abbu se hii kaam chalaayaa kartii thiiN ] and in some cases, even husbands did not call their wives by their names.
in my own family, my Bhabhi never calls my bro by his name and my bro never calls her by her name…at least, i have never heard them calling out by their names.
i will also not call my wife by her name…ill call her by more romantic words’ like:
daro aap uss din se jab wo aap ke inn alqabaat se bulae:
baba ji
baRe miyan
buzrigo
:D
hahaha...Khuda kaa shukr hai k mard Hazraat ko chand kalimaat irshaad farmaane kaa Khudaa_daad Haq Haasil hai. isii Dar aur Khauf se vo baaz rahegii aisaa kuchh kahne se. :)
India meN hii kiuN? Pakistan meN bhii magar uske liye Khawaateen ko bahot paapaR belne paRte haiN…mard Hazrat biwiyoN ko mo’alliqa rakh lete haiN…btw, Islam meN iskii saKhtii se momaani’at hai.
I heard that in Makli’s graveyards, these Tarkhan and Arghuns ladies graves got katbas with titles ‘Ismat Panah’. Is this also followed (such titles) in other regions?
I read somewhere that in west girls who abide by eastern concepts of chastity are considered abnormal / alien.
It shouldn't be though cuz zina is a sin Christianity as well. If the girls in the east think it's abnormal to commit zina it's because they see it a violation of a commandment and that makes sense. So on what basis do those in the west consider chastity abnormal....that it goes against the trend glorified by the media (Hollywood, etc)? Would that be it then cuz the religious books in both worlds prohibit it.

probably, its media. as not having a boy friend or giril friend at certain age is considered as abnormal behavior in those societies (as promoted by their media.. hollywood, etc)
