Re: Concept of Chastity in different Cultures
Actually thsi thread is inspiration of a short story by Zahida Hinna. She mentions two incidents (you may call it jokes) about chastity belts.
A knight before leaving for battle, made her wife to wear a chastity belt. He got some khauf e khuda in his heart and hand over keys of belt to a loyal and trustworthy friend that in case he dies and never returns, the lady may be get freed. Just after he exist from city main gate, he saw that friend running towards him. The friend told him that he had handed over wrong key as belt opening key

A lady whose husband was going for battle wore the belt and thrown keys in river in presence of his husband. The guy didn’t survive but cupid hit the lady and she fell in love with another guy after some time. so now, she spent all her wealth on ghota khors to find key in river ![]()

oh I remember this was being discussed in latest rape sprees. so its not just a myth.
Re: Concept of Chastity in different Cultures
In regards to the notion of chastity, I don't want to be crass but some people have very strange notions of what constitutes chastity and are rather specific. Oddly enough, I think that may be relatively recent though.
Re: Concept of Chastity in different Cultures
It’s strange, isn’t it.. I’ve heard of young Christian girls + guys in the Bible Belt thinking anything bar doing it in the right hole means they’re still chaste..
I know of a few Muslims as well who’d do everything but the act itself so they’d technically still be virgins on their wedding night..
If you’re doing all that really is there that much to ‘save’ ![]()

le dus… this is really strange version of chastity. again reminds me line from Mohra’s song ‘subh se lekar sham tak.. mujhe pyar karo’… kuch shadi se pehle kuch shadi ke baad ![]()
Re: Concept of Chastity in different Cultures
Question that comes to mind is , why is it that being chaste is seen as a female trait and not as a trait for both men and women? why is it only a woman who gets to be claimed for chastity , she has to accept all rules that culture and men create for her , things like protecting herself extraordinarily, so much so that other men cant even know her name !
Is it because its a man's world and they dont want rules about them being chaste but want to ensure women remain in their control through these rules?

oh interestingly, some people call Islam a sexist religion, but while going through Surah e Noor, I found its men first who were asked to maintain hayaa (chastity) followed by same order for ladies.
Re: Concept of Chastity in different Cultures
Pretty much yes.
A woman is a vulnerable target for a man whether that is his mother/sister/wife/daughter. Bring her mention into anything and you’re guaranteed an explosion of scale by most men. Just look at the curse words they’re all about the females, nobody brings in the father/brother. ![]()
