Re: Colours suitable for a dark complexioned bride
hmm i really cannot suggest a color, its really hard!! if she is really pretty she can pull off any color cause usually if ur pretty you really can!! i would also suggest some fair n lovely =) im sure by then she will be a few shades lighter and the problem of choosing any color will no longer be a problem!!!
Re: Colours suitable for a dark complexioned bride
what?? thats a ridiculous suggestion- i hope you were kidding!! she was born a certain color and i'm sure all her features were built to suit her complexion, and i'm sure she's gorgeous as she is. no need to use fair and lovely. yeesh.
Re: Colours suitable for a dark complexioned bride
Wow... thanx to everyone for the wonderful response. This forum rocks!!!!
Coming to the wedding, we are thinking of going for turquoise. Personally I have a soft spot for bright pink though...
BTW I'm Mallika Kapoor from Nashville,TN. Not Tamizh/mal, but a delhiite.
Re: Colours suitable for a dark complexioned bride
i also like those little diamond-like stones... but little ones, not giant ones... i have them on both my outfits and they're so subtle but they add such sparkle! also on my joras, there isn't any gold or silver kaam per se... another option might be to do dull gold kaam but not just gold kaam all over but with beads and dhaga in contrast colors. i know it sounds weird, but it looks really pretty!
Re: Colours suitable for a dark complexioned bride
ummm...what i have noticed for people with darker complexions is that a combination of brown and golden looks lovely!! my younger sis and my aunt who have a bit of darker compleaxion looks amazing in the combination of these colours and my sisters designer has also suggested a combo of rust and some sort of golden for her....so this is my opinion on what i have observed..hope this helps!:)
Re: Colours suitable for a dark complexioned bride
How would a burnt orange ghagra (wonder if thats what its called...) with turquoise and gold kaam+ turquoise duppatta look on a dark bride?
I saw a pattern that I really liked in another thread. But I'm not able to attach it here coz the site blocks posts with URLs unless you've made 25 posts...sob..sob...
Our designer says to go for brocade. Would it look good? What material would ya'll suggest?
Re: Colours suitable for a dark complexioned bride
hrm... i think brocade is super shiny and usually very poufy... you don't want her to look puffed up in it.... i'd do pure silk jamavar instead. its way less shiny than brocade. and i'd do a pure silk or raw silk kameez with it.
as for burnt orange with turqoise and gold kaam... i dunno, i have a feeling it could look really bad if done wrong... its not one of those "safe" combos, u know? and you don't have to do "safe" necessarily, but you'd really need to see a sample in person and figure out if thats what you want. you can't just order it and see it after its done or look at pictures i think... what if you stick to tone on tone and do burnt orange with red or maroon or rust instead?
Re: Colours suitable for a dark complexioned bride
For brides with darker/warmer complexions, i would suggest for them to go for warmer colours as they would'nt clash with their skin tone - i.e. oranges, reds, burgundys, maroons, warm purples, warm mauve shades, warm greens, warm yellows, golds - and definetly steer away from cool colours - i.e. limes, icy blues, ferozi shades, cool green shades, cool pinks and silvery shades.
Also best to go for gold or dull gold kaam on clothes, if u want to add silver, dont go for silver kaam - but instead add bits of diamante or dull silver kaam on parts of outfit.
I would'nt recommend turquoise or pink shades personally for brides who have a warmer complexion - although it can look ok depending on how the overall look is done (make-up, hair, etc), but it won't do much for them - it's far better to opt for warmer colours that compliment the warm tones of their skin.
Re: Colours suitable for a dark complexioned bride
hey sgc.. how did you read my mind buddy??? U are simply the best....That was the link that i tried to post earlier but couldnt coz i dint have enough posts to paste URLs. Thats a lovely pic, isnt it?
BTW whats that colour called????????
As for your proposition (in PM), you can count on me:)
Re: Colours suitable for a dark complexioned bride
i think its like an orange but some people have told me its rust... i dunno. i really think you'd have to take that pic to a fabric store in TN and then try and match the colors and see what they look like together. then you can take the swatches with you and get the exact color dyed in pakistan. as for the PM, check the Bridal Dress Colours thread... :D
Re: Colours suitable for a dark complexioned bride
Hey did anyone check out the 2007 bridal collection in benzerworld.com???? Some of the designs and colour combos are really beautiful...... but its sad that most of them are a bit too revealing:( . What I liked the most is that most models there arent very fair. So now I know what could suit my sis after all..................
ITMT if anyone knows the secret behind those washboard abs, plz share it with me..
@sgc: I loved what I saw. I'm sure that you'll look stunning on ur D-day. Cant wait to see the entire outfit... Do post the pics when it finally happens.
Re: Colours suitable for a dark complexioned bride
mallika, you can always make the shirts a bit longer and the necklines a bit higher with benzerworld's stuff if you're getting it copied in pakistan... and i agree, their stuff is gorgeous! i based off my shaadi lehenga on one of their designs- in bridal wear, i believe its the first pic and she's got the lehenga in a red, blue and offwhite. if you look at the lehenga skirt and then the pic of my lehenga, its more or less the same thing! my dupatta is different though, cos the red net dupatta just wasn't bridal enough :)
