Colours suitable for a dark complexioned bride

Can someone suggest colours and colour combinations that would suit a dark complexioned bride (think the complexion of Indian actress Bipasha Basu). This is for my sister who is getting married in Jan 2008. She has a Gharara with contrast shades in her mind. Any suggestion is welcome. Plz post some pics too.Thanx in advance:-).

Re: Colours suitable for a dark complexioned bride

she'd look hot in ivory or white or a pale gold. she would also rock a pale turqoise, like a teal color. my friend who is dark had on red with royal blue accents and she looked fantastic. think of all the colors you'd wear if you got a great tan... a pale yellow would also look great.

Re: Colours suitable for a dark complexioned bride

I would never suggest a pale color for a bride with a darker complexion.

I have a darker complexion and the only thing pale colours will do for me is make me look even darker. It's the same theory as never taking a picture of someone that is dark on a light/white background....they will invariably appear darker than they actually are.

Try putting her in burgundy.....or dark green.....any jewel tone will better than pastels.

Re: Colours suitable for a dark complexioned bride

I would suggest go talk to the hair/makeup artist and get some suggestion as to what will suit her, also let her know of the colours of her wedding dress that she'll be wearing, they are the best person to get idea/suggestion, as they are the professionnel who knows better.

Re: Colours suitable for a dark complexioned bride

i don't think a dark colour would look right on a dark bride, it'll make her look darker!!! stay away from maroons!!!!!!

i have a dark complexion and everyone was like you should wear a darker red... but i tired on lots of outfits and colours, the maroons looked blah!!!

For my three outfits i have settled on a 1. (fire engine) red 2. an aqua/blue colour and 3. white and silver.

so i think she should try on lots of colours pale and dark and just see what suits her!!!! i was surprised at what suited me, when i thought it wouldn't!!!

at the end of the day, the bride will look beautiful in whatever colour or style she goes for!!!

Re: Colours suitable for a dark complexioned bride

hrm.... i know when i get a tan, dark colors look fantastic! i think you should see what suits her when y'all go shopping for her clothes! there are so many different options and ranges of color... you might be surprised.

and yeah, i have a friend who is dark and wore fire engine red with royal blue piping just on her dupatta edge and she looked fantastic! i agree with LJ, jewel tones might make her look darker- that was my initial thought too.

Re: Colours suitable for a dark complexioned bride

Muzna---
Ive seen black (African-American) women wearing white or pastel colored clothing and makeup and they look beautiful IMO...the contrast of the light color with their dark skin tone, really makes it all look good... but we are talking abt desis, who hav a comletely different skin tone/color so probably pastels might not work. Deeper/rich colors sound nice as well...if you wnat to stick to the classic red, u can always get a shade that will suit her skin tone..

Re: Colours suitable for a dark complexioned bride

why r there 2 threads of this????

Re: Colours suitable for a dark complexioned bride

she prolly opened two by mistake... one of the mods should get rid of the other one methinks.

sara, i agree. even hispanic women, whose complexions match ours more than black women, look hott in lighter colors.

Re: Colours suitable for a dark complexioned bride

^ ANtoher thing, since we’re desi, we HAVE to hide the darkness and look lighter…so even if a light color wud look hot on a desi woman, it’d be a no-no bcause it’ll emphasze it..

Re: Colours suitable for a dark complexioned bride

my point precisely.

Here are some suggestions from various sites:

Deep (Vivid coloring)
Hair: Dark-Black, dark brown, chestnut, auburn.
Eyes: Deep-Brown, brown-black, hazel, rich green, olive.
Skin: Beige, olive, bronze.
Recommended colors: Those that are medium to deep in range, like navy, deep brown, blue, purple, charcoal gray, emerald green, mahogany.
*Remember that certain colors-like black, white, gray, navy, true red and true green-are considered “universal,” meaning they can be worn with flair by anybody.

“Winter”: Winters should wear colors that are sharp, stark and clear. White, black, navy blue, red and shocking pink all go well with winter complexions. For lighter colors, wear icy tones rather than pastels. Avoid subdued tones like beige, orange and gold.

Re: Colours suitable for a dark complexioned bride

Actually, I dont see why any colour wont be suitable. But then again, being a guy my opinion doesnt really matter :P. Just my two cents.

Re: Colours suitable for a dark complexioned bride

i wouldn't suggest dark colors but the color shud be bright not light or pale wud look nice

Re: Colours suitable for a dark complexioned bride

Dark coloured skin should always try to match their skin tone, as anything lighter will make the person ghostly in the picture, any colour matching the skin tone will look natural, excep try to bring out the eyes, so emphize more on the eye makeup rather the skin complection, trying to look fair which will not work.

Re: Colours suitable for a dark complexioned bride

why do we HAVE to hide the darkness? instead of giving into gossip and social pressure, why not let brides be who they are and wear what looks good on them instead of forcing them to look fair? fair is so overrated. does this mean she’s also going to slap on tons of foundation on her face two shades lighter than her skin tone and everyone will celebrate cos she looks fair? thats ridiculous.

Re: Colours suitable for a dark complexioned bride

this is what i was saying... not pastels, but lighter colors in brighter shades.

Re: Colours suitable for a dark complexioned bride

Well sarcasm aside, it’s mostly because those people are stooooopid. That’s why brides aren’t allowed to be “themselves.” It’s one thing to wear colors that will suit the skin tone and if light colors won’t suit, fine. It’s another when you wear white powder over dark skin! :yukh: If you go in teh bridal thread, look at the last link to webshots, abt the girl with the amazing dress that took two months to make…just look at her mehndi pix, shes’ a beautiful girl, but the white powder looks hideous.

Re: Colours suitable for a dark complexioned bride

i love that throw-up icon! :D

i think muzna's response threw me off re: your being sarcastic :p its all good!

Re: Colours suitable for a dark complexioned bride

i think rather than complexion it comes down to skin. Some people are dark but their skin beautiful and with right make up they can pull of the dark colours better than dull fair complexion. Although i wish your make man/woman is good, it can screw up all the planing.
