CJ issues contempt of court notice to Imran Khan

Re: CJ issues contempt of court notice to Imran Khan

If you ask me, I honestly don't think the judges should have such powers .... Disqualifying Gilani (however bad his governance record + CJ had no case against Zardari as the President enjoys full immunity from prosecution under both national and international law. Article 248 is a mockery for sure but it is still the law) was wrong just as they were wrong to send NS packing in 1993

Re: CJ issues contempt of court notice to Imran Khan

I agree, when PTI was cozying up with the MQM it was the same thing and we were being told the MQM is a reality and a respected mandate of the people… Now when PTI is at loggerheads with the MQM we are being told to sign petitions against bhai for the police to go arrest him…There should be coherency and some principled stances which they should stick to.

Re: CJ issues contempt of court notice to Imran Khan

When did PTI cozy up to MQM? I fail to remember. The only comment that I remember is when Imran said something like 'MQM is a nazriyaati party, and they dont run on inherited leadership. They represent the middle class, and it is possible to make an alliance with them ***so long as they give up their militancy.'

***About comparisons with PPP and Gilanis case, regardless of how right or wrong that case was, the fact is that Gilani refused to act on a supreme court verdict. Try doing that anywhere in the world, and you go to jail. Verdicts are meant to be followed, whether you agree with them or not. If the judge was 'going against the constitution', PPP could have removed him on that basis. On the other hand, there was no verdict, or even a case against Imran of any sort. So comparisons between the two are needless.

Re: CJ issues contempt of court notice to Imran Khan

let’s not even go there my friend… plenty of statements and ‘well lefts’… p.s inherited leadership is irrelevent for MQM, since day one the party has been controlled by a fat mafia leader who controls it very autonomously and kills anyone who he feels might be able to take over. I would actually welcome it if this fat piece of crap is replaced by someone else, even someone from his family if its the only way…

Re: CJ issues contempt of court notice to Imran Khan

I guess not everyone knows that much law because contempt of court and obstruction of justice are totally different things. The contempt of court is when you fail to comply with judge/court's order, and obstruction of justice is when you failed to assist law enforcement officials (such as helping police in investigating a crime). Gillani was charged with contempt of court...for failing to implement an unenforceable court order based in foreign jurisdiction.

Coming back to the topic, here is the latest… Imran seems to be implying that he never alleged against the top courts and was not talking about the judiciary rather the Election Comission..

Contempt of court: Imran Khan given till Aug 28 to resubmit reply | PAKISTAN - geo.tv

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) has rejected Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman, Imran Khan’s rejoinder submitted in the contempt of court case and ordered yet again to submit his detailed statement by August 28, Geo News reported.

The court had given Imran Khan time till 11:30 am Friday to submit his second and revised reply in the contempt of court case but rejected it once again, terming it “disappointing”.

The court had termed his earlier response as “insufficient”.

According to his revised response submitted in the court today, Imran Khan’s July 26 statement was not against the chief justice or the Supreme Court but he meant to criticize the role of the returning officers and district returning officers during May 11, 2013 general elections.

The SC rejected the PTI chief’s detailed response on using the word ‘Sharamnak’ (shameful) for judiciary. However, Khan’s lawyer Hamid Khan Advocate insisted that it was meant for the returning officers and district returning officers and not the Supreme Court.

The court, however, did not approve his second response as well and instructed his counsel Hamid Khan to submit a third and more heartfelt written response by August 28. The court, then, adjourned the hearing till then.

Earlier, PTI chief Imran Khan appeared before a three-judge bench of the SC in a contempt of court hearing today.

The bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry comprised of Justice Jawwad S Khwaja and Justice Azmat Saaed heard the case.

Senior lawyer and PTI leader Hamid Khan Advocate represented Khan before the court, which slapped the cricketer-turned politician with a contempt notice for making critical and derogatory remarks against the institution.

Referring to Imran Khan’s press conference on July 26, Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry said that the PTI chief had said that the judiciary’s role was shameful in the May 2013 general elections.

During the proceedings, Hamid Khan said that Imran Khan did not mean higher courts when he said “judiciary” during his press conference.

Hamid Khan argued that his client has never intended to demean the court, in fact he can never think of committing contempt of court. He has always stood for the supremacy of law and judiciary, as he believes in the rule of law, Hamid added.

Hamid Khan continued saying that Imran Khan had complaints against the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), and that he expects a lot from the top court and hopes that the judiciary will listen to him.

Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said that Imran Khan had demanded the biometric confirmation of voters in four constituencies.

He said that Imran Khan should know about the constitution and asked his lawyer Hamid Khan to apprise his client about the constitution.

Later, the court gave Imran Khan time till 11:30 am to submit his revised reply in the court and adjourned the hearing till then.

At the occasion, a large number of PTI supporters gathered outside the SC building.

Khan, who appeared defiant ahead of the hearing, said that he will not extend an apology over his stance and will stand firm as he was struggling for democracy in Pakistan.

The SC issued him notice to appear before it on August 2 and explain as to why contempt of court proceedings may not be initiated against him.

Khan had criticized the role of the top court and the ECP in the conduct of the recently held general election, which saw Nawaz Sharif’s PML-N emerging as the single largest party in the National Assembly.

Imran Khan spent a busy day on Thursday with his legal advisors for consultation over the imminent proceedings in the court.

Re: CJ issues contempt of court notice to Imran Khan

IK did not directly blame the CJ or SC but he did blame the ROs (who are judges ..... aur inn judges ka calibre hum sab ney dekha tha, jiss tarah k beyhooda sawal yeh kar rahe they candidates sey) and the EC. Most rigging happened at the level of the ROs in this election

Re: CJ issues contempt of court notice to Imran Khan

tau IK ney ghalat kya kaha hai. EC aur ROs ka kirdaar waqai sharamnak tha. raaton raat nataij badal diye.. ROs are judges but RO does not equal SC

Re: CJ issues contempt of court notice to Imran Khan

Believe me this PML(N) CJ is no better than these stupid corrupt bikaau RO's you are defining.
