Errmmm... pls scroll up to the first post of this thread. I don't say it, but the news item says it with pictorial evidence. As Fraudia said, it may not be wide spread (hopefully), but it seems to be there, unless the reporter completely missed the boat on honest journalism.

Pictures like these show up every year from Pakistan to Lebanon… more so after 911. This isn’t some isolated acts of violence as many here would want us to believe.

Half of these people who slash their head or spoil their bodies dont even understand meaning of Moharram.. Matam has to be stopped. The government should ban these bloody practices immediately. Govt. is under a lot of pressure from Shia clerics.... If you tell these things to our shia bros., they lose cool and think sunnis are throwing insults at them.. but have them look at the pictures PA's post has they should understand.

Exactly. There is nothing religious, islamic, Muslim about the matams and the bloody rituals. We rarely see the shia clerics and imams cutting themselves open like shia men and kids do... I wonder, why?

They want poor Shias to die and beat their chest madlessly and dont care what happens to the kids whose head is cut with a knife.. No one here went defensive and certainly no one has apologized for ashura practices. The topic under dsicussion was children…specifically babies. ANd yes these activities are not common. The fact that you can google out pictures of this doesnt make it more pervasive. You are trying to prove to ME what MY community does by showing me googled pics?

Picard, the google and other links showed VARIOUS images and footage of kids under attack because of this ritual… you should not ignore the obvious. It is done in Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Palestine, UAE by many people… if that is not widespread then what is?
The Google images are there, crawled by GOOGLE, NOT ME! I didn’t put them there, they wre gathered up by google from DIFFERENT websites and most of the pictures look different to me. Even if I had only posted the LINKS to the pictures, you would have still posted in a defensive manner as you just did.
As I said, you can find plenty of material on this matter if you try various variations and change the keywords around on major search engines:

You can also google any combinations of these words: "Sunnis killing shias"...and you will come up with shias being killed in iraq, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon and some other countries. You would probably end up wih more hits then whith ur search. Does that mean most sunnis in these countries go around killing shias? In other words....and this may come as a shock...so u better sit down for this.
The number of hits that google returns doesnt indicate the pervasivness of an act. It just indicates the amount of interest it has generated.
Your link regarding the 'wickedness' of matam is again an attempt to confuse the issue, u apparently didnt read my last post, or I might have used big words again. Are u so scared of people actually responding to your posts that you try to squeeze in these lies in threads that arent relevant? What is this fear of a coherent, to the point discussion?

Why you guys now having pain if we do matam truth of the matter is this is not a new pain your fore fathers have been complaining about it for hundred of years. Muharram every year removes the mask from Yazid, Yazid’s ideology and Yazid’s ancestors because most of you have a soft corner for Yazid that is the core reason this matam and matmi pictures hurt you.
