Chicago Mosque Not allowing in Women?

Re: Chicago Mosque Not allowing in Women?

Why do you assume I think it does? I just recounted what happened.

There was plenty of abuse thrown by both sides.

Re: Chicago Mosque Not allowing in Women?

Still looking for specifics on this masjid on Devon.
Description, location and approx dates.

Re: Chicago Mosque Not allowing in Women?

I haven't seen the girl in a week. Will let you know when I meet up with her again, sometime in the next two weeks.

There is a limit to lying and making up stories, you just crossed it by many miles!!!! Come on PCG say something which can be swallowed and be accepted by people. Next time you will say, men were singing, dancing in masjid and you saw or heard them? :D

However,
There should not be any reason for stopping women to go and pray in ANY masjid.

If there is no separate place for them to pray then they could still pray in areas for men and be separated so to speak.

If in Haram/Kaaba women are allowed then why not in any masjid?

And someone talking about staring at women is an exaggeration. And someone talking about masjid looking like meena bazzar is also exaggeration.

It is good that families can go in respectable environment and be socialized. What's wrong with children running around outside? Would you rather them running around in not so religious places?

People play games outside masjid area, they eat, they talk they meet friends. Part of normal life. Why consider masjid a dead and quiet place where no one would want to go besides just praying?

There is no end to women lib though. Once in a CA masjid when the jamaat started for prayer I heard some commotion . It turned out that the commotion was cause by some woman who did not like the idea of a separate women section . She wanted to pray in the men section that too in line (same suf) with men. :smack:
Naturally the imam who is very well respected big name Scholar and other people were offended.
So Imam told this lady to go and pray in women section and told her that he will explain the rationale behind this segregation. She was kind enough to listen to him , obviously she too respected Imam sahab and went to the women section.
I followed through with Imam sahab when I got a chance to find out what he explained to her , later on. He gave many reasons which sounded very logical and made a lot of sense to me.

In this city where i live now a big group of women caused a lot of commotion for many many weeks to pray in the main hall although there is a separate women section.
They were politically motivated because their candidates for Shura memberships were not elected and they wanted to paint shura of the time as oppressive. :smack2: :smack2:

I came across this, thought I share it.

Care to share what he said …

Re: Chicago Mosque Not allowing in Women?

Mirch, there should be no partition (physical) up between a man and a woman's section, necessarily. You can have one jamaat right behind the other. Only reason for a partition would be if they've divided up the space so that there is a male and female jamaat portion praying alongside each other. Like we have that. Instead of sectioning off the entire end of one masjid, we have 1/4 set aside for us, because otherwise if we were entirely behind the men, we would be blocking the entrance. The entrance is where the back of the jamaat is located. So, we actually pray alongside the other 1/4 of the jamaat, which is male, alongside us. so there is a partition between us for that reason, to avoid 2 people of opposite genders brushing shoulders.

Otherwise, no need for a partition. She is right, you guys should draw down the curtain. It is more of an arab tradition, than an Islamic requirement. No text will say it is required to have a physical wall between the jamaats. No such thing at all.

I have a question. If this same lady did not have the religious garb she has on, and instead was well manicured, hijab-less, in western dress with a funky hairstyle, would you listen to her?

Re: Chicago Mosque Not allowing in Women?

PCG got it right.
there is no need for a physical partition

I see responsibility on both genders here, because it is our wives, sisters, daughters and mothers being pushed aside.
This has no basis in religion, majority of us dont really care but because it is not affecting us per say but our silence on this means that the only voices heard are those who would push their cultural practices in the guise of religion over all of us.

Now ladies..one thing you can do to help yourself is tell others sitting with you to stop the yip yap. sadly there is a little bit too much choon choon going on there even during khutbas and stuff. something that can plainly be seen in most. This is in itself not reason enough to have separate sections but thought I would point that out.

ROFL .............
there is no limit for lying and exaggeration.** u can excuse her as its her habit between this does not bother me much rather create interest in the thread.
( beside u can expect nething in USA)

on a serious note there is difference of opinion here. few ulema has strictly prohibited talking unnecessarily and about worldly affiars in the mosque.

but other has a different view. according to them it is quite permissible to do chat and discussing sth related to the world. coz they consider it one of the purpose of jamaat. coz we can perform the namaz at home but to offer the namaz in jamaat help us to know muslim living around us and how cud we know them when we will no talk to them ............ but there is limit ........... like discussing NASDAQ, KSE index sort of things.

That would be true if all muslim brothers were progressive.

Unfortunately they are not.

Many times I see bearded clerics oogling at girls and women.

Infact, they just stare right at you without having the common decency to look away when you look back.

And for the sisters, going to the Mosque has become a social event. Its when you display your new clothes, catch up on gossip, and do the regular mumbo jumbo.

i dont know what do u mean by progressive muslim. all we shud do, make effort for becoming practicing muslim. islam is a progressive relegion it tells u the basic principle of life and if u lead ur life considering those principle u r free to do what ever u want to do.

everybody oogle ................. i think just to point clerics is ridiculous.
one of senior manager at my firm himself confessed that he sexed with 75 women , after that he stopped counting. definitely, he wud not oogle. surely he wud be ur ideals.

the problem with the confused desis is that, while living in europe they have develop the same habit like lukewarm Christians to criticise the clerics and finding their faults. how pious patriots Pakistanis are and how much they know about the quran, hadiths and fiqah. i was reading a survey conducted in the European country for the Pakistani community and a considerable % of children cud not read the kalima even.

i don't say every alim is like farishta as everyone is a human. we need to have respect for them and try to learn deen from them. as we shud not expect Peter Drucker, Edward De Bono and warren Buffet to teach us ilm e din.

I know that and agree with you on that one. I have read many many ahadees as to how it was done in prophet(SAW) times.
She created a bigger issue. This woman wanted to be in the same suf/line with men. :smack: She did not want to be standing behind men. :smack2:

but she does not have to stand behind them..all that is needed is a seperation, and that too to avoid bodily contact with strangers.

from what I understand even a few feet difference is enough. so why not have a portion in the front rows be made into a ladies section so they too can be in front and not behind? nothing wrong with that.

That is a trend that women have to stop, they may not be doing it themselves but others around them and they need to tell em to just stop the khussur phussar during khutba. last eid prayers the women's section was so damn loud during khutba that I swear if I had a stink bomb, it was going on that side.

but then we have to find aalims who have the level of knowledge in the matters of faith as peter Drucker, Bono and Buffet have in their fields.

I am not likely to go talk strategy with some recently minted amway salesman, and by the same token I am not going to bother with some clueless 'alim'.

yes alims should be respected, but we have too many poseurs churned out of misguided schools and themselves are lost and make religion tough and cant distinguish between cultural stuff and religious guidelines.

Re: Chicago Mosque Not allowing in Women?

well

maybe there is some issue - like inadequate facilities

these days, even in pakistan, many mosques allow women - it's all about having the right facilities

separate prayer area with separate entrance

besides, i believe its encouraged for men to pray in congregation but for women its not so much sawab as it is for men

Re: Chicago Mosque Not allowing in Women?

does not matter how much sawab it is, women can pray in the masjid.

and who came up with the concept of separate entrance? its not necessary, period.

separate prayer area is fine but it does not have to be a different room/hall etc. a section within the main prayer hall is perfectly fine

Re: Chicago Mosque Not allowing in Women?

yea well sure, but the point is, the concept of purdah needs to maintained

maybe the mosque did not have the facilities for that

females who really want to pray in that masjid, instead of protesting, should approach the people incharge of that mosque and ask them simply to create special area, or see what the problem is

let's not give the mosque a bad name please without checking first what the issue is.
