its commendable already that these people went ahead and took the efforts to found a masjid in america.

Re: Chicago Mosque Not allowing in Women?
concept of purdah? please elaborate.
I am not giving any mosque a bad name, if u go and read I have actually noted that the two mosques in the area mentioned have always had women praying when I have been there and more than likely the ladies confused some private break area with local workers praying as a masjid.
Care to share what he said ....
I did not want to start a new discussion in this thread and derail it I will try to the best of my memory
It happened about a decade ago , so my memory is very scratchy about it. He said something like this. If the women are in the same lane/suf or in front of men it will be a fitna/test of the men. It will be hard for them to control their eyes from wandering to steal a glimpse of her.
Someone can argue that men are there to pray not to examine the body of a woman praying in front or beside them. They should keep their gaze low as ordered by Allah. In theory it is a strong argument and good thought . But reality of life is entirely different.
As far as I know in Holy Prophet(SAW) days , men used to be in front kids used to be in the middle and women behind kids.
but she does not have to stand behind them..all that is needed is a seperation, and that too to avoid bodily contact with strangers.
from what I understand even a few feet difference is enough. so why not have a portion in the front rows be made into a ladies section so they too can be in front and not behind? nothing wrong with that.
Sure , sure. For ages Masjids have been non women friendly. Now women are reclaiming Masjid and their place in it , therefore, Masjids will start to become women friendly again.
Re: Chicago Mosque Not allowing in Women?
X2
My point is just that we are talking about a MASJID here
do we realise as Muslims that we should Respect MASJIDS
i find it highly in bad taste that one should start a thread about a masjid and say negative things about it.
if there is an issue, one should go and talk to the imam of the masjid or people incharge, rather than bashing and talking about issue like this publicly.
people these days don't even think twice before doing propaganda against MASJID. Sharam ki baat hae. disgusted
^ So if a mosque of all places is clearly doing something unIslamic and forbidden by Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) we should all keep our mouths shut just to avoid ruining their 'reputation?' To me that's pretty messed up. People who chose to speak out publicly did go to the mosque and try to reason with them politely before but they didn't listen. I guess what can u expect from small-minded ppl who throw insults and stand by whilst their friends throw eggs at these hijabi women.. The comment about the non-desi women not being 'real' Muslims sums up the stupidity and backwardness of these idiots.
i dont know what do u mean by progressive muslim. all we shud do, make effort for becoming practicing muslim. islam is a progressive relegion it tells u the basic principle of life and if u lead ur life considering those principle u r free to do what ever u want to do.
*everybody oogle ................. i think just to point clerics is ridiculous. * one of senior manager at my firm himself confessed that he sexed with 75 women , after that he stopped counting. definitely, he wud not oogle. surely he wud be ur ideals.
the problem with the confused desis is that, while living in europe they have develop the same habit like lukewarm Christians to criticise the clerics and finding their faults. how pious patriots Pakistanis are and how much they know about the quran, hadiths and fiqah. i was reading a survey conducted in the European country for the Pakistani community and a considerable % of children cud not read the kalima even.
i don't say every alim is like farishta as everyone is a human. we need to have respect for them and try to learn deen from them. as we shud not expect Peter Drucker, Edward De Bono and warren Buffet to teach us ilm e din.
No, in the west it's not normal to get ogled at by men all the time like in Pakistan, well unless u go out in a micro mini and ur b*bs hanging out.. I would say the ogling is far worse at mosques than walking down the street or out shopping over here, perhaps cos there are more men from 'back home' hanging around and in their cultures it's considered acceptable to stand there with their eyes on stalks everytime they see a female. Also, u expect 'religious' men to be **better* behaved..
Deeba, can you please provide me more detailed accounts of this encounter these people had with the mosque authorities?
i don't see any reference to that in this thread.
obviously in the west men don't need to ogle, for them female skin is nothing exotic to look at b/c west mein women don't dress decently. in pakistan women do. the MAJORITY :) and i'm sorry but have you ever been to pakistan? not all pakistan men are perverted. men know how to respect women in pakistan much more than in the west.
this is a COMPLETE LIE that men at mosque ogle.
kindly talk more respectfully about places of worship of Muslims. your name indicates you are a hindu. no wonder you're spreading propaganda against Muslim mosques.
Re: Chicago Mosque Not allowing in Women?
You need to get ur facts straight ‘questioner’ (what an ironic username)..
How is Deeba not a Muslim name??? It’s Persian/Afghan and a pretty common name at that.. (DIBA was the last queen of Iran, u obviously don’t know much about Muslim countries or history perhaps I should accuse u of not being a Muslim as well). I’m of mixed Pak/Bengali/European heritage but all my immediate family are Muslim and I’ve mentioned LOADS of times my own mum wears hijab (and that I’m pro-hijab) so dunno how u came up with my being a hindu. My second name is a very common Muslim surname amongst Arabs and Pakistanis so those who know me on these forums know ur making a fool of urself by accusing me of being a hindu. Personally, I think there are too many idiots on here who are obsessed with India and hindus, I don’t have any bad feelings towards them at all and more than likely my own relatives from a couple of centuries ago were also hindus.
If u think it’s a complete lie that men ogle women at mosque I’m sorry but ur just in denial.. Classic ‘dig ur head in the sand and pretend it’s not happening syndrome.’
Have u ever even been to the west that u think women don’t dress decently during the day?? Most of them wear trousers or skirts (not mini skirts) and shirts to work over here, u’d be hard pressed to find an average women showing much skin over here in London during the daytime.. Walk down Oxford Street in London and see how many women are dressed ‘indecently’.
Oh, and why would I argue that women should be allowed to wear burkha and hijab on other thread if I’m so anti-Muslim?? Being Muslim doesn’t mean we should blindly accept bad behaviour or ignorance from other Muslims, actually we have a duty to stamp it out, not make excuses for it. Are u going to accuse PCG of being a ‘secret hindu’ as well?? Genius ![]()
Re: Chicago Mosque Not allowing in Women?
Deeba, ok i apologise about that. its just all the Deebas i have known have been hindus :)
Secondly, i have lived a big part of my life in the west. i've been to a lot of western countries. and yes i have seen women sunbathing without clothes in the open as well.
i am not saying that men at mosques dont ogle AT ALL, they r human beings not farishtas, but to say that this is a norm rather than an exception: THAT is a complete lie. in fact most men who come to the mosque to pray do not come with the intention of checking women out. i would think they would go to a western beach if they had that intention :)
Re: Chicago Mosque Not allowing in Women?
i am still waiting for some reference from you about the encounter these people had with the authorities of the masjid.
it is definitely the duty of ours to point out when other Muslims do wrong. and thats EXACTLY what im trying to do here :)
do NOT give MOSQUES a bad name disgusted
such PUBLIC BASHING of a MOSQUE should be the LAST OPTION
but here i see that the FIRST STEP (dialogue with the mosque authorities) was not even carried out.
this is just like gossip and propaganda for the sake of "chaskiaan" as they say in Urdu. means to enjoy gossip.
whats disgusting is that the topic that is chosen is a MOSQUE. and THAT is SHAMEFUL.
