I was just watching it on tv and its so disturbing. The mob is looting shops and burning anything and everything in its way. Police is using tear gas and the mob was trying to set Punjab Assembly building on fire.
Why can't we protest peacefully ?
And they're not even protesting against the govt, they're protesting against a whole different country. I'm very disappointed.
2 of them are already dead, they were trying to enter a bank when the gaurds shot at them. :(

if u do support this, how can u then condemn those in the west who use the riots as an excuse to hate all muslims?

also, when u say others do not respect their religion because they dont react the way muslims do, are u also saying that the only way for a non-muslim to respect her religion is to respect that religion the way muslims do theirs? this ignores the fact that each religion is very different and calls 4 a different mode of respect. i thought islam was tolerant, but it does not sound like tolerance when we expect other religions to behave exactly like islam.
maybe you’ll say, “but these cartoons were not acts of tolerance, so why should we tolerate the ppl who thought they were ok?” ok, should muslims only be tolerant so long as others are tolerant? are you saying that it’s ok to ignore/lower/debase the principles of islam if people of other religions don’t show tolerance???

No but focusing on places like iran, cartoons come out quite often that portray jews in very nasty ways. if we’re going 2 hold 2 a standard of respect for religion (if not the politics of those who are religious), then let’s not be hypocritical about it. show respect for religion, period. don’t just demand it for islam. don’t just get upset when it’s islam that’s being insulted. get upset when any religion is insulted.
then again the problem is, right to speak out against whatever you like is a right of citizens in the west. it’s what allows them to protest the iraq war, 4 instance. if you step in and say “but you can’t disrespect x y or x” then you’re opening the door for preventing ppl from disrespecting other things like war. bcoz everyone has a different idea of what shouldn’t be disrespected, and u can’t be sure that the govt (which will probably make the decisions) would decide 2 listen only to what you think should be off-limits to free speech. and thats the real problem with limiting free speech to prevent insulting ppl’s religion.
i will say that it’s not surprising that ppl in undemocratic nations don’t see the point of protesting through a letter writing campaign, because obviously such ideas make sense only to ppl who believe their individual voices count and can maybe influence their govt. but also i find it disturbing that so many guppies living in the west look on riots and burnings and killings and feel ok defending these actions. seems to me that if you want 2 condemn the cartoons as inciting violence and mockery, then u’ve also got to condemn the rioters for inciting violence and mockery!
a little sense ppl, plz. none of us are at war here, we can talk 2 each other politely. and just think, if we cant find common ground, isnt that a really bad sign about the future?
