Re: Career Woman or Homemaker ?
lol. i invested killing amount on my education so if he wants to pay off my loan…he will be more than welcome to do it ![]()
well on serious note…errr i am in a creative field so its better for me not to experiment with things at home. but kher dekhi jayee gee.
whats wrong with a career woman turned housemaker turned career woman?
yeah I too support that , as long as kids are grown up and hubby and home routine doesnt get disturbed , women should utilize their intelligence and abilities definitely ... there is alot more to a woman then just looking beautiful and cooking... just that everything has its time and once the delicate phase of young kids is over a woman can always do tons in her time ...:D

there are also some fields in which a woman (or a man for that matter..for those of u men who want to be stay at home dads :D) can work from home.
I have a friend who is a lawyer…she worked at a law firm…long hrs. after she had her baby she told her boss that she will have to quit her job to stay at home with her daughter. She was so good at what she does and was a great asset to the firm that her boss offered her a flex schedule…i have nvr heard of that for lawyers! she works 3 days a week and 2 days works from home. unheard of
she accepted it. I would do the same ![]()
Re: Career Woman or Homemaker ?
at the end of the day, its a couples decision to do whatever they think is best.. and not a nice feeling to be told by others what is best for their kid.. everyone has their own life to live and most parents try to give their child(ren) 200%
and not everyone works for a big house and a nice gadi... there are other priorities..
Re: Career Woman or Homemaker ?
no, me aint quitting no career over here. InshaAllah work things out with a supportive husband.

Nothing! Its a brilliant idea! Lol! :)
Re: Career Woman or Homemaker ?
The challenge many are missing is that depending on the field, 5-10 years absence from the industry is going to potentially have consequences on the career, and some women like what they do and want to excel in their field. Its tough to balance.
2 kids spaced 3 years, and mother returning to work after the youngest one is in school is 8 years absence. It takes effort to keep the skills sharp and a royal pain to explain the large gap.
Re: Career Woman or Homemaker ?
Extra money with less nagging at home … what a peaceful life that be … pretty cool :k:
Me : I'd Quit ! Even though I'd be giving up a fruitful career I believe a family & kids come first......I don't want my kids being brought up by a nanny ! I wanna be there when they first crawl or sit or take their first steps or say their first word ............
just what i wanted to say..:)

it's a challenge but it's not impossible. I've seen it done many times with my sisters and my mom.
altho I would prefer that partime job my friend was offered (after having her baby) in her law firm....she was lucky...not sure if I would have the same luck. My neighbor who is a doctor was also offered a similar position...she too works 3 days a week. This is a great way of getting the best of both worlds. pay cut? yes! worth it? yes.

That's the whole discussion is to "stay in the game" and not get completely cut off from a preofession. These days if you are in technical field even medicine - things are changing so drastcially that your *skills become dated very soon. *
If you plan to go back to work - fill in gap by working on adhoc projects, taking some courses, staying in touch and have a plan for what you want to do.
I takes dedication but it can be done.

agreed...it is very important to stay on top of things if you plan on taking a break from your career. many women do it tho...it's nothing unheard of.
Re: Career Woman or Homemaker ?
^ AE I think they don't.
It's easy to get wrapped up in your children (myself included) and re-enter the field at much less earning or lower level jobs. Some even have to start all over again.
The sad part is that I see VERY capable women being happy to take lower level jobs and get paid WAY less than they are originally worth. They think "oh it's a blessing just to have a job after all these years".
Re: Career Woman or Homemaker ?
What was the question again?
Re: Career Woman or Homemaker ?
njgal, its more than that. Once your tech skills are out of date, your resume is never as attractive as it once was. No one in their right mind would expect to earn the same salary after an 8 year absence! But an important thing to remember (esp during interviews!) is that you know the ropes, the politics, and how things work. This is every bit as important as the technical details which most likely you can look up on the internet if you cant figger it out! Sure, salary will be much less when you return but it can go up pretty fast too. Experience is never wasted.
Re: Career Woman or Homemaker ?
Mama - some of my friends went to school and started their MBAs or got their PMP certification. Or something like a Java Certification and after 3 years at home got an salary ABOVE what she was making.
It was clearly not easy taking care of a child and studying but it was worth it in the end.
Another friend started up a small business from home - registered her company. I'll be honest she did barely any work but she was able to justify the GAP to an employer.
I encourage women to aim high after a GAP because I see many wonderful examples around me. It takes some strategic thinking and planning.
It takes years to get promoted. Why settle?
