Its not similar....

Pakistan has historically never controlled that area but that area is under pakistani jurisdiction

Where as Lebanon allowed a terrorist group to take over that part and wage war on Israel...

Thats true however its not in Pakistan's best interests that Osama gets captured.

USA has always had a alliance of need with Pakistan. It needed Pakistan to establish bases and spy on the Soviet Union in the 1950's and 1960's and then after that Pakistan was soon dropped.

Then again, it needed Pakistan to finance and train afghan mujahideen in the 1980's and then later Pakistan was dropped again.

So now again, USA needs Pakistan to wage war on terror.

But what will happen once usa loses interests in the war on terror or osama and his cohorts are captured?

USA will promply leave and strengthen ties with India and impose sanctions on Pakistan.

Thats the dilemma.

USA never has and never will be a trustworthy ally.

All it has is present day needs which Pakistan fulfills. And as long as Osama remains on the run that need will continue and it will benefit Pakistan because we will get US aid which has caused our economy to boom.

Eh? The fall of Kabul took three weeks...and even then, the rest of Afghanistan was ceded to warlords who would toe the American line (i.e. not be a nucience internationally)...even though these blokes had a worse human rights record than the Taliban...oh yes...let's ignore that because Mayor Karzi
allows little girls to go to school in his district...

Pakistan should not risk the life of a single soldier, or even more important a single civilian, simply because antsy Americans are after a serial killer. It's not in their interests...they have bigger problems internaly than OBL.

Dude, the similarities between Leb. and Pak are much greater than different.

The bottom line is, Pakistan's borders must be respected, and the extent to which Pakistan will enforce those borders should strictly be a function of national self-interest...not because of some wild-terrorist hunt.

It doesn't make sense to see 100k people die to chase a terrorist who only killed 4k...insofar as the American's are concerned, all 120 Million+ Pakistanis are open to murder so long as they get OBL in the end. NOT the people you want to be listening to...

I personally think Bush would never send US troops into Pakistan, atleast not in near future.
But I have a hypothetical question - Considering Pakistani citizen would never want US troops in their home land, what would Pakistan do if Bush sends troops into Pakistan?

Really bad analogy, as gambling at Indian Reservations does not kill 3,000 people outside of the country. However, if our country has an Indian reservation that harbors an international murderer, and the US government fails to do anything effective about it for years, please fee free to violate our airspace to clean up the mess, and bombs away.

Capturing Bin Laden and weakening his terror network will greatly have positive effects on Pakistan. The stabilization of the country will allow foreign investment to flow in and increase the quality of life for Pakistanis. The U.S. isn't abandoning Pakistan anytime soon, those who will receive the most U.S. support are those who work hardest to rid the country of radicals. A strong central Pakistan benefits both countries greatly. Already Pakistan has benefited greatly from 9/11, Keeping the government stabilized while weakening the radicals in the country is how they can maximize their benefits.

If democrats come to power in 2008, what will happen then?

Osama is Pakistan's only trump card and if we give him up, what is going to stop USA from putting sanctions back on Pakistan

Pakistan is a pretty easy card to play, if it's government is strong and stable then they can deal with the terrorists on their own. Not dealing with the terrorists will only bring short term stablilty and longterm consequences.

Almost $4 billion in foreign investment last year, economic growth of around 7% the last few years, and I just read that Pakistan energy requierments are increasing 10/12% per year, that energy consumption is going to much more than palaces friend.
