In Iraq, the time to fight for one's freedom is at an end when 10 Million Iraqis voted in the elections.

Bascially what you have are sectarian gangs waging war and killing each other and americans and innocent iraqi civilians. I hardly call that fighting for one's freedom.

Did you ever visit Afghanistan during the taliban period.. and they were easily forced out.. throught carpet bombing and now they are back.. and u stil think the gurella warfare can sustain itself without the popular supprot.. just read the comments on BBC from EU and British military ppl about how hard they r finding it to beat the taliban..

trust me, if i had a choice i wud much rather live in Pakistan w/ my family :) it is only becoz of my parents that i am currently living here. As soon as i get done with med skool i'm going back & taking my parents with me :)

Waise, I dont think US will send its troops to Pak. As it is, they are stretched too thin. I agree with one of the earlier poster that Bush probably meant Pak troops.

President Bush said Wednesday he would order military action inside Pakistan if intelligence indicated that Osama bin Laden or other top terror leaders were hiding there. “Absolutely,” Bush said in an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer.

This highlighted in no way means that Pakistani troops will carry out that task, as US President he cannot issue orders to Pakistani military (atleast directly and officially). This would be a big challenge for Musharraf, he has been bending over all this time, lets see if he can bend any further.

For hundreds of years there has been no authoratitive presence in that region

Basically the tribals do whatever the hell they want....

The best way to deal with that is basically like what USA did with the native americans...

Give them their own reservations and do whatever you want there...

but Pakistan needs to secure the borders with Afghanistan

he is bluffing.he did'nt do that when bin laden escaped from tora bora and crossed the border into pakistan.he could do that right now too ,send u.s forcers into waziristan.if he did that it would have catastrophic consequencies for the musharraf govt.

He has no choice. But he uses it well. Whenever he needs favor from US, he gets some Pakistani killed and tells Bush that Pakistani police just killed some Taliban/Alqueda leader in an encounter.

That is what they thought about Afghanistan too. It took about three weeks. Let's be frank, Ussamastan only has guns and ammo because they get them through Pakistan. If Pakistan actually had a defensible border, they could control the arms flow, and depower the tribals. It is Pakistans own fault the the tribals have enough guns to slaughter 10,000 troops. The ISI flooded guns into this area, and they created this Frankenstein monster. The tribal areas did not have enough money to arm a squirrel without outside money. The US money to fight the Soviets dried up 25 years ago, so let's not go there.

What kind of civilized country lets heavily armed groups run around the country? (Emphasis there on the word civilized). Is it any wonder that if you are allowing armed groups to shelter terrorists that you may have your territorial integrity questioned? You can't have it both ways. Either do the job yourself or turn away for a minute while someone does your job for you.

The territories are an embarrassment to all Pakistanis.
