That’s fine. We’ll call it French hypocrisy then. A nation NO longer built on Equality, Fraternity and Liberty.
Equality: There is no equality when under the strictest interpretation of the proposed laws target a double minority (French Muslim and Female).
Fraternity: There is no longer any fraternity when the social space is dominated by rhetoric of intolerance.
Liberty: Pretty evident here. French Muslim women are being denied THEIR choice to wear an article of clothing.
Many of the women wearing the Burkas/Hijab/Niqab are French born and raised, they every right to be live in their nation as they please.
Besides who are you to ask any French born citizen to leave if they don’t like things in their country? You identify your location as the US yet seem to be proud Indian, if your so proud to be Indian, why aren’t you back in India? I’m not looking to insult you here but mentioning a fact. You want me to go back to the country of birth? Gladly, I wouldn’t mind living in Switzerland :)
The topic on hand is about French hypocrisy not Muslim majority nations, if you want to discuss the lack of religion freedom in KSA, I’ll be glad to talk about it in another thread.
I dont consider it French hypocrisy. If at all, its Muslim hypocrisy where the religion itself teaches intolerance for other religions but its followers demand "tolerance" and "equality".
The Burqa or the headscarf was orginally invented because the jews used to molest the muslim women. I thought that the honor of a human being is untouchable, but it seems to that only counts for themselves.
Very Interesting :-) any reference..I am 100% against the burqa with or without will.
I’m not going to speak for Hindus and Sikhs, but I will say this: These communities are more integrationist meaning that they tend to not mind giving up their religious practices and culture to “get ahead and be accepted” in the host society. Muslims and Orthodox Jews stick out in France because they tend to hold their religion and cultural practices more closely. As a community, you will note that French Jews were the ones who pushed for the availability of kosher meat, which was the same argument used by Muslims when it came to halal meat.
Sure enough ----- it is not pertaining to a specific religion ----- be it Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism or Sikhism ----- to me it is a question of rather being able to choose to practice one's religion freely!

That is rich ----- in other words you are telling us that you sincerely believe that Islam is an “intolerant” religion ----- well don't you think ----- that you have proven yourself to be holding a preconceived bigoted opinion against the religion of Islam by making such a bias statement?????.

AFAIK, Islam is the only major religion that has the concept of "non-believer" or "kaafirs". Would you call that tolerance ?

The concept of nonbelievers is present in every major religion of the world ----- in Islam it is often referred to as “Kaffirs” ----- in Christianity it is known as “infidels” ----- in Hinduism they are called “Harijans” ----- and in Sikhism they are clearly known as “Vedeens”.

harijan was the word used by Gandhi against untouchability in modern india.
hari means "God" and jan means "people". harijan means people of God. it does not mean faithless.
Gandhi propagated this word among upper class indian to be used against the word achoot.
I think banning burka is a little extreme step. Its the question of human rights. If a woman wants to wear it by choice, then she should be allowed to do it. But, at the same time she should be willing to take it off in cases like security check up, taking picture during driving license, and during voting.
Supreme court of India has banned parda nashin woman from voting. According to the judgement, every voter has to show his or her face and the voters id card to the officer at the polling booth. If they cannot follow this rule then they cannot vote, stating Voting is a statuatary right not a fundamental right.
In many cases, muslim woman have gone too extreme by not agreeing to show their face in such cases and those cases they should be banned from those places.

Yes technically speaking you are absolutely correct ----- thanks to Gandhi Ji for coining the sugar coated term “HARIJANS” in lieu of politically incorrect phrase “DALITS” or OUTCATS and UNTOUCHABLES ----- but "HARIJANS"or "DALITS" are used for nonbelievers as well!

Perhaps your confusion arises from the fact that in Pakistan the Schedule castes or Dalits are counted sperately from Hindus. But for your knowledge they are Hindus ...... so get your facts right first !!!!

Just an FYI, in india "harijan" or "dalit" is not used for non believers. Harijan word got currupted with the passage of time.
People forgot what the word really means, instead achoot got replaced by harijan.
Just like if you call some Sikh guy a gyaani, he will get offended. But in reality gyaani in sanskrit means a guy with knowledge.

But lets stick to the topic
Our friend claims that Harijans are non believers in Hindusim ..... so was clarifying his point. Good you know that Harijans or Dalits are PART of Hinduism and not "outsiders" or "non-belivers" ..... as regards Ambedkar and Budhism, we surely can discuss that too .... if you wish !!
