Bridal & wedding shopping

Re: Bridal & wedding shopping

Hi,

I'm getting married next April in Mayfair, London, i'm not getting married in Lahore. I don't know about make-up or hair places over there at all, i did go for a pampering day at Depilex in Defence whilst i was there though, lol. They were good. They do bridal make-up there too.

Good luck with everything anyway, i'll try and answer as many questions as i can, but please remember i'm Turkish, and only been to Pakistan once, so i'm still a novice with all of this!

Re: Bridal & wedding shopping

When you guys say 'expensive' what price range are we talking here...?

Re: Bridal & wedding shopping

Something like £2000 (british pounds) for a bridal outfit is expensive for me especially when you are paying that amount in Pakistan!:snooty:

Re: Bridal & wedding shopping

Wow 2000 uk pounds is a hell of a lot of money to pay in Pakistan! If i'm paying that much for a bridal lehnga it had better be out of this world! How much are bridal lehngas normally? Obviously i want my lehnga to be stunning but i'm not fussed about designer labels and all that. I'd be happy to go to a good darzi and tell him what i want. How long do they normally take to make them? I am going in mid-Feb to Lahore for about 3 weeks and i want to bring my lehnga back with me, but i've been told that they darzi's can often take up to six weeks to make it.. Is this true?

Re: Bridal & wedding shopping

I've been told the same thing -- that darzis take forever and work according to their own schedules and give u a hard time. I'm going to Karachi in March for 4 weeks and I, too, want to bring my bridal outfit back with me. I've been advised to tell the darzis that I HAVE to have my jora by a certain date (make sure its a couple days BEFORE you leave) because you'll be leaving the country. It's totally doable in 3 weeks for them, they just need to make it a priority. Just make sure you let them know ur circumstances (that you'll be leaving).

Re: Bridal & wedding shopping

hello...mohsin saree or sons in PINDI is excellent for clothes even if u see something in a magazine they can copy it...really.
for makeup i hear depilex in islamabad is good and i know that new look in lahore is hte absolute best they did my makeup and i have gotten my makeup done after that 3 diff places and no one was as good as new look. they are flawless. no one recognized me in pics...they thought i was a famous actress...makeup they do changes u! also anarkali is great u really have to look around for the best shop...i hear labase khas is good i got my dress from there.

Re: Bridal & wedding shopping

Do you really want to spend 2000 pounds on a dress that ure not sure if ull ever wear again??? I know u want the best for ur wedding, but IMO that just seems like a waste, sorry. I'm sure u can get gorgeous stuff for a fraction of hte price.

Re: Bridal & wedding shopping

Sara, I totally agree! I'm always hearing about girls going to Pak and spending so much money on their wedding dresses and I think to myself "am I being tight cos I don't wana spend that much?" ... But it seems like 1500-2000 UKP is the normal price to pay even in Pak, I'm worried I'm not going to find anything I like that's within my price range and I'm going to have to pay a lot more than I want to. I mean I could but one for 2000 but, like Sara, I think it is a total waste of money for something I'm only going to wear once. Has anyone bought really nice bridal dresses from Lahore at a decent price? And can you recommend any places to go to get them?? A friend of mine's bhabhi bought her dress from Pak and she got it made from her own darzi - not a designer. The dress was absolutely stunning and it only cost like 500 UKP or something...

Re: Bridal & wedding shopping

i was just about to ask you guys this question- i’ve been told that $1000 cdn is equal to about 50,000 rupees and that is more than enough for a nice bridal lehnga. in fact, some people are telling me to go lower. but the thing is, i dont want something super elaborate but nor do i want to compromise on the quality of the material or the kaam either. so what is a good price for a bridal lehenga? mine will be based on the picture below… its not seriously heavy kaam everywhere, but there is a lot of kaam on it i think. we found someone who is willing to do it for $1000 cdn but she has to keep her profit margin too- and if we push her to go lower, then i’m afraid im going to get rubbish.

Re: Bridal & wedding shopping

ok..has anyone got any ideas or advice they can give me...
My friend just got her wedding outfit from lahore. (I haven't seen it yet). Anyway she went to Zardosi and she didn't like it, she said they don't have anything specially. I am looking for something classy & sopisticated yet traditional. I don't want anything pendu type..It makes me cringe when girls have no taste in colours, kaam and material...
I have decided that I will spend however much, as long as the end product is beautiful, something I know no-one else has got..

Any ideas? xx

Re: Bridal & wedding shopping

Hey, I didnt see anyone mention any prices, but I know a few so here you go...

HSY - someone wrote that he is really arrogant, I found him supremely nice and very friendly, did my best friends wedding outfit and was the sweetest guy. Yeah he is stunning in his designs, so if he is proud of his work he has every right to be. He was even dancing at the wedding with all of us in Lahore.

Price - starts at around 2 -3 lakhs. YEAH! its expensive but so so good.

Another designer I didnt see mentioned, who I have seen do some absolutely stunning wedding stuff.. Saman Nayaz, www.naynaonline.com

Price starts at about 50000 rups.

Everyone thinks outside money in Pak should buy you everything but what you have to remember is that for those in Pak who have money they have ALOT of it....and weddings are the main way they show their wealth....so dont expect things to just be cheaper because ur from 'abroad'.

I spent about 1 lakh on my outfit but that was three years ago. Now, I would be expecting to pay 2-3 lakhs. Thats just the way it is. My average outfit from back home costs about 6000 rups and I am talking lawn and linen outfits. Yeah, I buy nice stuff but I spend for quality.

Re: Bridal & wedding shopping

Finally someone has spoken my language!!!

Gummybear where are you from? and can you email me with more details of where to buy what, have you got any pictures of your friends outfit..

Re: Bridal & wedding shopping

Ok this is a weird question but when u were all getting married, did u get your wedding dress made to your size of that time or did u hope that by the wedding u'd have lost weight or something?

I remember going nutz before my wedding, because I dint know if my stuff wud fit..i cudnt try to lose any weight but i had to be strict so that I dint gain..either.. urgh it was nerve wracking..
