guys the rise rasam is done in many different ways in different cultures...
usually we see the bride throwing rise behind her, over her head - This specifically comes from the hindu religion, later as hindu culture, then becoming an indian cultural thing, and thats where it comes from in some of our pakistani weddings too -
as for the agha khani rasam, i didnt know one like this existed..
so what does the rise mean?
As far as throwin over the head, the rise symbolizes food for 'evil spirits' OR 'balaayain' it is assumed that the evil spirits get busy eating the rise while the dulhan departs and therefore nothing goes wrong.
IMO: i don't personally believe in either the rise thing or keeping a Quran over ones head. I think its better if the dulhan and her family, and all attendees read darud sharif and other duas in their hearts while she departs.

^ Agree completely. Reading Durood Sharif is best, not just when the bride is departing, but throughout the wedding.
