Hello all. I please need contacts/ info on bridal henna artists in the GTA, preferably who do a fab job on paki style mehndi designs.
Most of the websites I’ve seen online are of Indian henna artists, who do a great job but I’m not sure how the color comes out. Mostly in the bolly movies they show their henna as this reddy/orangy tone, and obviously we (pakis) dont use that kinda henna.
Also, all the websites, (mostly punita/ dimple shah) show all these beautiful patterns when they’re fresh n dark. They don’t show how the result was! Like how the color came out, so I’ve no inkling on what to expect even though their patterns are awesome!
Also, if anyone has had any experience, please kindly share it! Like how long did it take for your color to fade, etc.
Thanks so much!
Forgot to say, anyone who doesn’t have a website, but has experience doin bridal henna in pak, or whoever is just talented but don’t have a website, please feel free to pm me your contact. I’m very desperate.
i had dimple and i loved her! my mehendi came out really nice and dark and faded in about three weeks. she also did really nice patterns for my mom, my aunts, my cousins, and my bm’s.
she’s also really fast, really pro and so nice in person.
i went with her cos i wanted nice mehendi and non-crowded mehendi on my hands so i chose a pattern with lots of white space, so you can actually see the patter she’s done instead of just a whole bunch of squiggles
I have a website, you can check it out (I'm in Cleveland). I need to revamp it, and the photos are old, but I've been so swamped lately! Dimple Shah has some amazing patterns!
In Bollywood Movies, the "reddish," tone I think is either body paint or sometimes there are additives for henna. However, I've never experimented nor met anyone else who reached any sort of reddish tone of that magnitude.
The secret to getting that dark tone are terp's (certain essential oils), and heat. After you've had your mehndi done and wrapped, you can wave your arms under a blow dryer for a bit. It'll make the color much darker.
Punita did my sister's (and my) mendhi and it turned out amazingly dark and stayed on a very long time. It didn't fade.
I've seen some girls get their mendhi done at Dubai Beauty Parlour (I think that's the name) in Mississauga and it started to wash off the next day, which sucks.

I would highly recommend Punita.
I went there for Eid (in october) and it was okay. i wasn't really impressed, but i liked that they were quick as well. i think teh best mehndi i had in NA was Dimple's and in pakistan... my cousin.. :D
has anybody ever noticed? when mehndi starts to fade, the really not so good designs just look..really bad..while they looked really good when it was dark and fresh. okay maybe its just me.
SGC and sara thanks for that vote of confidence. Fading color was my basic issue, and yeah I've also had horrible experience at the dubai salon. It fades out like the next day, and I hate the fact how those ladies totally brag how their henna is some kinda special mix that they concoct together!
hey sara n sgc, can you gimme a ballpark on what kinda rates I should be expecting from them? The thing with me is that I like the bhari bhari mehndi, so I might ask her to fill in a lil more than what you got done for yourself sgc. (it looks beautiful tho n the color's fab!)
Also, would I have to go over, or would dimple come down?
dimple comes to where you are.
she charged me $120 because i only wanted it on my hands, not my feet- with feet, i think you're looking at $150 and up, depending on the pattern, and yes, she had lots of designs with mehendi filled in and bhari hui but neither i nor the hubs (whom i took when i gave her the deposit) are big fans and he completely freaked when he saw the heavier patterns haha
she took $25 from the bm's, my mom, aunts, cousins, etc. who had mehendi done on each hand.
i did speak to punita but she was SO unpro about the whole thing- she seemed disorganized and wouldn't ask for a deposit or confirm booking time, and i just didn't trust that she'd show up and do a good job. also she showed up a friend's house at 2am to do her bridal mehendi and her wedding was the next evening!
yeah! at night! or early morning, technically :p
my friend was panicking cos she didn't think she'd show... plus she had to stay awake until 4 am waiting for her to finish and for the damned thing to dry so she could sleep. ugh.
Bhenjee, i had bridal mehndi, up to my elbows and calves, so it was really expensive. I don't know how much regular mehndi for "guests" would cost, if u just want some on ur hands.
yep.. punita is not reliable at all...
she did my mehndi too and charged me $200 or $250 (can't remember) for my hands and feet...and that was suppose to be at my place but right on time she made the excuse and didnt show up.... i had to go to her place and she still charged me the full amount. and while doing my mehndi, she was continously either was on the phone or was doing couple of other girls mehndi as well. time definitely was the issue.
