i've said this before too, but i'll say it again :P
a makeup artist is a pro. they're used to, and train to, work with many different skin colors and many different styles of makeup. if you show them examples of what u want, as you'd do with a desi makeup artist too, they'll do what you want. its very simple. theres lots of really good makeup people out there that do excellent makeup for all ethnicities. try one!

Have you looked into Raheela Beauty Parlor (in Brooklyn, New York)? i can't judge because i'm on the west coast but they should be reputable after all they're a major desi beauty parlor for the east coast.

OMg raheela is an awful awful woman. Don't know anything about her bridal makeup though. If I were getting married in ny ( and I live on NYC) I wouldnot go to her. I would find a good MAC artist. If u go to their store you can ask them and most of them are professional makeup artists and do amazing bridal makeup even for Pakis.

If we're judging solely by makeup, Raheela is not bad at all, and she is not very expensive (well last I knew, i dont know if she has changed her prices yet). However, the location, the people who work there and their lousy attitudes, and Raheela herself, depending on how important these things are to the customer, (and judging by how much business she gets, alot of ppl DONT care abt those things)... but the makeup is fine...

im not a big fan of raheela. a friend of mine got her makeup done from a lady in NJ and she looked SO beautiful mashallah. ill find out the info for you!

Sara, I don't know this Raheel lady personally since I live in Toronto. However, I have seen brides made by her and wasn't impressed at all. Make up was typical desi makeup. You know, that ghost white base, reddish-goldish eye shadow, and a distasteful shade of red lipstick. Also, I don't know what she used to get that look but the face radiated like a 100W bulb. However, what I heard is that she is quite popular among desis.
she is popular because she has had her salon in Brooklyn for over 10 yrs now. but shes those awful typical desi aunties that love talking behind people's back. when she first started her salon she had her brothers family come to ny from pakistan and made her brother work as a cab driver and pretty much forced her nieces to work in the salon with her even though they wanted to go to school and she left their mother at home to cook and clean. she wouldnt let the girls go to school or even pay them for working there. not only ALL of that but she talked behind everyones back and would be so nice to their face. shes ugly, inside and out.

I won't argue with you on that....I don't know if you remember, but a few years ago, an entire family in brooklyn was killed, i dont know all the details but the landlady had done something in the house that the whole family died. So sad. Anyways, my friend who lives there and knows alot of ppl, told me that Raheela had helped the landlady to escape to pakistan... and if what ur saying is ture... that's sick. alot of complaints ihave heard abt her are in regards to her attitude, the location, the idiocy of the ppl working there (they have no privcacy downstairs for waxing whatsoever, anyone can just come in!), but not the makeup..Theres lots more makeup artists in NY to go to...

i would have to agree that she does like making girls with a darker complexion, white..so white that their skin looks light purple. and yes, she does the red/gold eyeshadow and the red/gold lipstick. i'm not a fan of her bridal makeup. although, i think her party makeup isn't too bad. it's a little different from what you would call "desi makeup". i've seen it done on one of my friends and it looked nice..but i think that's because my friend is already light skinned. i think Raheela can make girls who are already light skinned, and pretty, look good with her makeup..but not so much the girls who are a bit darker and average looking. that's what i've noticed. other people may have different opinions.

I have seen some Raheela brides that came out pretty good....not over the top white makeup or anything. I think it depends on the person & how firm you are. My friend knew exactly what she wanted and stuck to it. Some brides just go in at the mercy of the make-up artist not having a clue what they wanna look like...

i've seen pictures of brides done by LAAJ Studios that looked absolutely beautifuuuuul- i think they're based in the NJ area. They also do wedding and studio photography, which again looks amazing! I wish we had someone like that in California :(. Google them up or look for them on facebook!

Raheela on Foster Avenue is pretty good..but has a bit of an attitude.

whatever you do ...avoid new look salon in hicksville. The lady there thinks she's ather shehzad but her makeup is TERRIBLY paindu. she is racist (against pakistanis..she's bengali). She basically has no manners...she is RUDE to her customers. basically...sub par standards with an attitude like they're some sorta depilex (NOT!)
god...i'd even pick raheela over them.
