Bridal Gold Jewellery or artificial Jewellery?

hi everyone…

was just wondering wot your views were on not wearing actual gold on the wedding day?

i havent bought my lengah yet but want the option of goin for something with silver kadai or stones etc…if i find something i like then dont want a gold set because it will clash!!

are many brides wearing artifical sets these days ?

dont want auntie jees talking bout the bride not wearing any gold!! lol
thank you. xxxx

Re: bridal sets - gold/artifical

It's very common in the US to wear white gold with wedding joras.

But are you wondering if you should wear yellow gold vs. artificial gold or white gold vs. yellow gold?

In any case, both white gold and artificial gold sets are worn by brides. Do whatever makes you happiest!

Re: bridal sets - gold/artifical

theres a LOT of artificial jewellery in karachi now, at least from what i saw. most of it is quite hideous IMO, but thats more a question of taste than material. i'm sure theres some really elegant artifical jewellery that i just never saw.
i think the key is, whether real or artifical, to make sure its what you want and like and that you're happy with it.
remember that aunti jees will find lots to gossip about- theres nothing you can do about that, so might as well make sure you do what you want!

Re: bridal sets - gold/artifical

Heres some ‘better’ quality artificial jewelery
A Collection of Bridal Costume Jewelries in an eye-catching array of colorful semi-precious stones.

but imo, its not a good idea to wear costume jewelery on your wedding…you can always wear something beautiful..but real…doesnt have to weigh 20 tolas…

thank you ladies:)

i'm not really a fan of gold so think that spending thousands on a bridal set that will be worn just once is basically a waste on money!! but thats just my opinion of course.

i've not looked into white gold sets. didnt ever think that they exsisted! lol....but will def have a look into that....i much rather prefer white gold to normal gold. xxx

rukhsana_ali, my mother has made me three white gold sets for my jahez along with the traditional yellow gold pieces. I love them! They are gorgeous and so modern. I think I will get a lot more wear out of them versus the yellow, yellow 22/24k. These are also high in karat weight but look really elegant. The earrings are so pretty that I will be able to wear them with my western clothes as well!

I am attaching pictures of one of the more delicate sets, I happen to have them saved on my computer as Mom was making me take a digital inventory before she puts this batch in the safe. The paranoia of mothers!!

The weren’t staged for a photoshoot so they look kinda wonky in the pictures, but you get the idea!

Re: bridal sets - gold/artifical

^the set is really nice MA.

Rukhsana, you dont have to wear a big gaudy gold set, get a nice elegant set that you will wear again and again..on future shadis and functions..
getting a huge gold set is not practical, and it doesnt look good, no matter who wears it.

you can find a lot of great looking gold sets in the range of $2500-$4000

believe me, i have seen many brides regret wearing artificial jewelery on their wedding…

awww thank you rabia3983 :hugz:

HiI remember you posting pictures of very pretty antique style jewelry - did you wear that on your wedding?

Re: bridal sets - gold/artifical

yes i did :) it is a lovely polki and emerald set.

Re: bridal sets - gold/artifical

^WoW I can imagine its beauty - I love emeralds

I'm curious to the reasoning behind this logic.
What is there to "regret" about wearing costume jewelery (aside from designs/changing aesthetics)? **
*If someone cannot afford to wear or buy real jewelery, does it amke them less of a bride or less of a person? *

**
Can’t really tell much other than it must look absolutely divine in real. I also take pictures of everything every time I go to my locker, just to have my online “inventory” :)**

Oh my, how lovely!!! Your mum has excellent taste! Lucky you.

Re: bridal sets - gold/artifical

Oh malta, then you must share pictures as well!!

Thank you syani1, that's awfully nice of you. Believe it or not, this particular set was chosen by my father! He had to take a quickie trip to PK and mom sent him to our jeweler to pick something out for me. I was quite impressed with his taste!

Re: bridal sets - gold/artifical

^ My dad chose my wedding set as well. Dads can surprise you :)

oooh, your set was from pk?! do you mind me asking where abouts he would of bought this?

i would much rather a set which is white gold. .... reason behind me starting this thread was not so much about the cost of gold as my family are happy to buy it for me. its more the case that i dont like wearing it! lol

i think brides look beautiful with the whole set, you know, tikkah and jhombar etc but i was entertaining the idea of buying a heavy aritfical one - nothing cheap something perhaps jewels etc.

but thank you also for the link....i'm logging onto it right now :)

Re: bridal sets - gold/artifical

Of course! We always go to Metro Jewelers :
Zaibunnisa Street, Saddar
Ph: 511443, 523009

They had quite a few white gold sets there, all very nice styles. They have lots of other finishes too, antique, rose gold, etc. I think Mummy may have a set at home from Metro that she hasn't put back in yet. I can take some pics for you if you want. Its set on yellow gold, but you can't see any of the gold at all! And there are huge pearls on it too. Very pretty.

I don't want to wear a very heavy set during my wedding to be honest. I would much rather wear something more modern and elegant, you know? I don't care much about wearing heavy jewelry myself. On the other hand, my Mother says that it is more of an investment than a wardrobe staple. So we'll see!

If you parents insist on it, and they can afford it, I think you should go for a heavy traditional set. Or if you get something that looks delicate, get something that is at least heavy.

ah thank you somehowcollide :)....would love to see the set if its not too much trouble
whens your big day?

also thank you for the address. i think we're going to do most of the shopping in lahore, not sure if we'll have a chance to visit karachi :(

does anyone know any specfic jewellers in lahore that sell white gold? or even in the uk for that matter!.....

shops round here tend to only sell traditional asian gold. but hopefully shops in birmingham or london have branched out a bit
