Re: Breaking News: Shoaib and Asif BANNED

^ is that Shabbir Ahmed knocking on the door again? should we tell him "aagay jaao Allah de gaa"? :D

Re: Breaking News: Shoaib and Asif BANNED

How can you forget Mohammed Sami?

Re: Breaking News: Shoaib and Asif BANNED

Yes that's a possibility - however I doubt very much that he will consider that.

Re: Breaking News: Shoaib and Asif BANNED

Definetely Shoaib has an attitude problem. My mate was telling me how drunk he was on Broad Street, Birmingham and tried to hire his taxi. Since he was so drunk he didn't want to take him and Shoiab screaming 'you don't know who I am?' Finally, my mate told him to f*** off.

Also, I had opprtunity to meet him once at his mates house and didn't like him because of his arrogance and had opprtunities to meet him so many other times on his private visits that I didn't bother.

I suppose you all may be curious to know which place he visits on his private trips. He visits Cardiff a lot and has family friends (neighbours from his native village near Pindi) who live there and this is where I had met him before.

Re: Breaking News: Shoaib and Asif BANNED

Is there any chance the sentences may be reduced? ...it's happened before.

Re: Breaking News: Shoaib and Asif BANNED

I just lost all interest in cricket. Our World Cup chances are well and truly gone. It's good that I didn't buy any World Cup tickets.

Re: Breaking News: Shoaib and Asif BANNED

yea. His suspension is over in first week of december. Once he gets approval again, he can play in the World Cup. I can see him and Asif in tandem in the near future. I've been a fan from the start, and don't doubt his comeback.

Re: Breaking News: Shoaib and Asif BANNED

i dont know whether to laugh or cry
Well..

Re: Breaking News: Shoaib and Asif BANNED

iam not sure thats the right decesion made by PCB. just imagine these players who are the product of a society which is corrupt, immmoral and has lost its values .where in Pakistan you find justice . there is no law that pravails in the country.judges are easily bought. ministers are all corrupt. even the PCB chief is not an elected person. so why should we apply law to only two people in the whole country.at least they have contributed some to this nation. iam not saying that we should have covered there crime, but they commited this crime unknowingly and lack of knowledge about the drugs. they should have been pardoned and allowed to continue play.

Re: Breaking News: Shoaib and Asif BANNED

A very sad day for Pakistan cricket. Probably a fair decision by the tribunal, but at the same time can’t rule out the possibility of international pressure (ICC/WADA) which may have influenced the decision.

Additionally I agree with people, who are claiming it to be a harsh decision. One can argue that how come Shane Warne got away with a ban of 1 year and Shoaib Akhtar got 2 year ban, specially when the Tribunal clearly criticized PCB current policy of educating/advising/guiding their players about prohibited drugs and antidoping regulations. I am sure Australian Cricket Board must have a better way of communicating with their players regarding this issue, at the same time their players have a better command of English:rolleyes:

I fail to understand that why these two have been handed harsh punishment after reading this,

After reading the full text of the decison by Anti Doping Tribunal, specially their explanation of why Asif’ case was dealt in a lenient manner, I personally think that they could have given a 1 year punishment to Shoaib Akhtar and 6 months to Asif. I have a strong feeling that the harsh nature of this decision is because of international pressure.

A few very interesting comments, a must read :D. By by Shoaib Akhter, probably for good.

Re: Breaking News: Shoaib and Asif BANNED

Did you read the Shoaib replies and his general comments. He was acting a god of himself in medicine, and I am utterly sure that he would have been some what stubborn with his attitude. Asif on the other hand is an idiot. Got himself into trouble cause of just ignorance.

Re: Breaking News: Shoaib and Asif BANNED

Are you are talking about the statement he presented in front of the tribunal?
The statement simply listed his medical conditions plus some treatment regimes, and it was most likely prepared by his personal doctor.
Regardless of his attitude*, *I was talking about the harshness of the decision when you compare it with Shane Warne. Read carefully what I worte.

Doctor says fast bowler will contest ban

Shoaib might appeal
Cricinfo staff

November 2, 2006

Shoaib Akhtar is likely to appeal against the ban handed to him by the Pakistan board-appointed drug tribunal, sources close to the bowler confirmed to Cricinfo.

Shoaib was sentenced to a two-year ban from cricket after he and Mohammad Asif - banned for a year - tested positive for nandrolone, a muscle-building steroid banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency.

Tauseef Razzaq, Shoaib’s doctor, also said that Shoaib was devastated by the decision and would definitely appeal against the ban. “There are a number of examples where athletes were given the benefit of the doubt for using substances unknowingly and there are studies by renowned universities of the world on whose basis Akhtar should have been cleared,” Razzaq told AFP, referring to Shoaib’s claim last month that he had not knowingly taken any performance-enhancing drugs.

Neither Shoaib nor Asif has issued any public statement regarding their decision to appeal. There are indications that Shoaib will hold a press conference later on the issue, though these have yet to be confirmed.

Fkhan,
Totally agreed, compare Shoaib's 2 yrs with all other doping punishments in the past (including Warne), none were given more than 18months which begs the question why 2yrs for shoaib? Is Pcb setting its own standards or is this a case of old vendetta's? whatever the reasoning, 2yrs was harsh one was reasonable.

Doctor says fast bowler will contest ban

Sad but we had to make an example of Shoaib - Alam

Cricinfo staff

November 2, 2006

Intikhab Alam, one of the three-member panel that recommended the ban on Shoaib Akthar and Mohammad Asif, said he was sad but had no regrets about the decision.

“We didn’t have any doubts in our minds about what we have announced,” Intikhab, the former Pakistan captain, told Bigstarcricket. “They were not able to convince us of their innocence. It was crystal clear. They admitted themselves that they had been taking dietary supplements. They are both adults and players have to be responsible for their own actions. Sometimes you have to take these decisions. We have done a good job.”

Intikhab was certain that the tough, albeit sad, decision had to be taken as it would set an example for the young cricketers of the future. "It’s sad that it happened but now the youngsters coming up will be very, very careful. We had to set an example.

“If the players just got their strength from good old-fashioned fitness work and didn’t abuse their bodies with these supplements, they would still be playing.”

Intikhab also said he didn’t know why the two players declined the chance to give a second B test and suggested the only reason could have been that their retest would also have been positive.

Intikhab rubbished speculations that the panel was unfairly harsher on Akhtar than Asif. “If people read our statement they will understand,” Intikhab asserted. "He [Shoaib] drinks alcohol, has an active sex life and he’s been part of anti-doping awareness programmes. Shoaib has been around for the last ten years and the written statement that his spokesman gave about him taking dietary supplements and not consulting a doctor, shows he was negligent."

On Asif he said: “We decided to ban him for a year because his English is not that good, he comes from a remote village where he would not have been educated on the dangers of drugs in sport and so he doesn’t understand.”

Pakistan players including Shoiab may not have told me that they drink etc…

Re: Breaking News: Shoaib and Asif BANNED

Shoaib Akhter had to be made an example…thats the bottm-line. Shane Warne belongs to a much more developed sporting fraternity yet was awarded a one year ban, thus this theory of knowing and not knowing is rubbish. Truth of the matter is Mr Akhter has made far too many enemies in his short and much interrupted career and his non-conventional hobbies make him an easy target.

Mr. Intikhab Alam calims they (tribunal) have done a good job? Having failed as a cricketer this is probably the only way he can claim success…moron.
