This is a big blow for pakistan and slims up the chances of Pak winning the worldcup next year.
However, I should salute the PCB for taking up a bold decision to clean up the mess. This will benefit pakistan cricket in the long run.

As much as the news is bad..PCB must be saluted for not keeping the whole issue under wrap or hushing it
news is bad not only for Pakistan cricket but for world cricket - Asif in particular - he was certainly a gift to international cricket

This is very bad news for Shoaib and his career. Asif will forever be working to clean his image through out his career.

If the news is true, Shoaib's career is over and Asif will have to work really hard to get into team again and for Pakistan there goes the hopes of doing something good in World Cup

Bad Bad news specially for Asif but I guess its good PCB took the right decisions and I hope with this decision everyone should be alarmed that PCB means business here. All the players, team management and other country boards and ICC that in future PCB will not let go anything easily if they are blamed or forced upon such as the drama at the oval. :k:
I hope they groom new bowlers and start working on a strategy for WC.

Shoaib's career is over, Asif will come back. Bad for the Pak team in the short term but PCB took the right decision in cleaning the game. Pak will have to do without them in the foreseeable future but who knows what other talent might emerge.

Pakistan pair hit by doping bans
Pakistan fast bowlers Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif have been banned from the game for failing a drugs test.
Shoaib will serve a two-year suspension and Asif will be out of cricket for 12 months after they tested positive for nandrolone, a banned steroid.
The punishments were handed out by a three-man tribunal appointed by the Pakistan Cricket Board. The inquiry was launched after the pair were sent home from the ICC Champions Trophy in India.

Call me crazy but it is not the end of the world for Pakistan Cricket. Shoaib's absence may be with his express pace and Asif's exclusion but Pakistan does have the talent with bowlers, namely Anwar Ali, Nazir and other potential in U-19. This is an end to may be some careers but not the end for Pakistan Cricket, we have rebounded from many things and Inshallah this time it will be no different.

As stated above in some of the posts - Shoaibs career I think is over. When the 2 year ban is over - he may not be fit enough and most importantly no longer motivated enough to continue especially as the age is not on his side.
As far as the other super star Asif is concerned - age is definitely on his side and I suppose he should be ok and shouldn't have much trouble finding his place back in the side especially if the other jokers like Sami, Rao & co do not deliver.
I personally had thought the PCB may somehow find ways to make them available for the World cup and may not reveal all the details and come up with excuses. However, they have taken a very courageous stance and no doubt will serve a warning to the others who may have thought about taking any banned drugs.
