Re: A Tribute to Mohammad Yousuf
I think Miandad did do against Lilee before he learned his lesson.
Re: A Tribute to Mohammad Yousuf
^ If I am not wrong, Greenidge also never wore a helmet
Re: A Tribute to Mohammad Yousuf
^ yes, Greenidge did it (or was it him I was thinking initially?? :D)
Re: A Tribute to Mohammad Yousuf
So did Richi Richardson. I remember watching him playing without helmet agaisnt the 2 W’s.
Re: A Tribute to Mohammad Yousuf
Greenidge started wearing a helmet regularly towards the end of his career.
The only three batsmen I know who hardly ever or never wore a helmet are:
Richards
Richardson
and

Curtly Ambrose (yes, he only wore a helmet in his last few innings) ![]()
Re: A Tribute to Mohammad Yousuf
Thats not right he use to wear helmet too. Though I haven’t seen Richards wearing a helmet.
Re: A Tribute to Mohammad Yousuf
I don't think Gavaskar wore helmets.
Re: A Tribute to Mohammad Yousuf
You must be kidding.
I think the only batsman who never wore a helmet is Richi Richardson not even towards the end of his career.

You are right there about Richie Richardson but Viv Richards also never wore a helmet, hence the famous quote 'he took on the world in a cap'
Re: “Brave” Batsmen who played pacers without helmet!
Inzamam in Semi-final '92 ![]()
Re: "Brave" Batsmen who played pacers without helmet!
Gavaskar was probably the first one to put a helmet on.
Gordon Greenidge also wore helmets.
The players I have never seen playing in a helmet when it was available (post 1970) are:
Viv
Salim Yousuf (Pakistani WK, but I could be wrong here)
Kim Hughes (Aus)
Larry Golmes (WI)
Re: “Brave” Batsmen who played pacers without helmet!
I don’t know how ‘pacy’ the Kiwis were in 1992, but the discussion was mainly when facing pacers likes of Imran Khan, Lillee, Botham, Marshal etc, generally in “Test” matches where there is/was no limit of bouncers.
Re: "Brave" Batsmen who played pacers without helmet!
Miandad ofcourse wore a helmet against the quicks but in that famous Australasia Cup Final (Sharjah 1986) he took on India's pop gun attack in a cap.
Re: "Brave" Batsmen who played pacers without helmet!
On Sharjah pitches against the likes of Cheetan Sharma and Kapil Deo, who needs a helmet? Even Tauseef Ahmed walked in his natural cap.
Re: "Brave" Batsmen who played pacers without helmet!
Actually, Gavaskar never used a helmet throughout his career. However, after 1983, he started using protection around his ears.
Re: "Brave" Batsmen who played pacers without helmet!
Whatever the hell that funny looking white stuff was it was a protection of the head and thus a helmet. He didn't wear the one with a visor because then he couldn't bat. he was a limiting batsman in that sense.
Re: "Brave" Batsmen who played pacers without helmet!
I don't think batting without a helmet is BRAVE, I think it is STUPID.
Re: "Brave" Batsmen who played pacers without helmet!
^yes STUPID...regardless of the stature of the batsman and the bowler.
I believe even Tendu got hit on the head (Captain1 has constantly yapped about that here).
Ask Bapu Nadkarni. Ask Ewen Chattfield. Ask Raman Lamba (fielding without helmet)
