Beware of Gandhi,...

Re: Beware of Gandhi,…

apply you theory to isreal-palestinian conflict how violence will help palestinians?

Re: Beware of Gandhi,...

Well the Palis sure as hell need to stop killing innocent Israelis, as far as I'm concerned Israel does a good job of teaching those animals some manners. And violence (like the Palis do) and self-defence are 2 separate things.

Re: Beware of Gandhi,…

no need to apologise. and we don’t elevate Gandhi to godlike status - he got their himself by his principled actions and accomplishments.

I also have written previosuly why I do not expect most pakistanis to revere Gandhi - most of you are jealous and some actually hate him for Jinnah’s failings.

But that’s all about the pakistani points of view and understandable. The part that I think goes beyond decency is when some pakistanis are such ingrates that they even want to forget that but for Gandhi they will still be slaves licking the british boots - in fact I have heard one of these morons even say “we would have preferred to be a british colony still to a freedom won by Gandhi”.

Re: Beware of Gandhi,…

Atlantis,
Read this again,..if you forgot,…

“One of the biggest misconceptions is that India gained independence because of Mohandas Gandhi. Far from it – it was World War II’s violence that exhausted the British to the point that they could not sustain an empire anymore. India would have become independent, Gandhi or no Gandhi.”

"He also laid the foundations of socialism and indirectly contributed to the creation of Pakistan. "

Now which Gandhi we are talking about here,…?

Re: Beware of Gandhi,…

tariq baby - listen: anyone can write anything - doesn’t make it the gospel truth. for example you claimed you went to a particular school for 6 years - just because you wrote it doesn’t make it a fact. Now if you repeat the same fabrication again, can it make it a fact? ni way.

just thank Lord Krishna or whoever your favorite Gos is that Gandhi got you independence, whether you like him or nor :flower2:

Gandhi vs Jinnah

http://www.indhistory.com/img/gandhiji-jinnah-2.jpg

The Round Table Conference of 1929 was Gandhi’s Waterloo. He erred in going to London as the sole spokesperson of the Congress, pinning hopes on the appeals from British statesmen. There he was cornered by the chosen few from among the Muslims who asked him to justify how he could speak on behalf of their community, while Mauna Shasta Ali, former Khilafat leader, warned the Hindus: “If the Hindus don’t meet our demands this time, we’re going to make war on them. We ruled the Hindus once. We at least don’t intend to be ruled by them now.” The British Government planned to announce the Communal Award B this time the Scheduled Castes were to be favored, as were the Muslims in 1909. In disgust, Gandhi returned home empty-handed, while the government armed itself for letting loose repression.

Gandhi failed to checkmate Jinnah’s dangerous moves. Jinnah had no influence with the Muslim Premiers of Punjab, Sind and Bengal. Even when Fall Hue from Bengal had proposed the Pakistan resolution, he had later turned anti-Jinnah; while Ghulam Hussain Hidayatullaha, Sind Premier, had opposed the resolution. Gandhi did not capture an opportunity to form an anti-Jinnah front along with them. That was against his spirit of compromise as against confrontation. He ploughed his lonely furrow. The landed Gandhi in a complex situation in 1942, which exerted pressure on him for action. There were the Communists and other Leftists who favored support for the war in view of Russia and Britain having become allies. On the other hand, there were lurking fears that Japan might occupy India. In April 1942, the first Japanese bombing of India took place and there was seizure of the Andaman Islands. On his release from prison in 1944, Gandhi committed a great blunder in his talks with Jinnah, when all his colleagues were in jail. This boosted Jinnah’s prestige amongst the Muslims in two ways: as a wrecker, and as the Quaid-e Azam, Jinnah came on level with Gandhi, the Mahatma. The Gandhi-Jinnah talks had serious repercussions. Immediately Jinnah acquired the status of sole spokesmanship.

Re: Beware of Gandhi,…

Gandhi didn’t win freedom. All he did was agitate and annoy the British. Jinnah was the one who actually DID something. The only thing Gandhi did was get shot.

Re: Beware of Gandhi,…

Yes Tariq, he saved Muslims at Noakhali, October 1946.
He went on a hunger strike in mid Jan 48, two major demands…remove Hindu refugees from mosques, pay 55 crore to Pakistan…both demands were fulfilled.
He was killed and it brought an all over stop to riots in India.

Re: Beware of Gandhi,...

Why did he go on a hunger strike when the British were about to give voting rights to the lower castes? Remember the Poona Pact?

Re: Beware of Gandhi,...

^ as far as i understand the pune pact was signed by Ambedkar(representing the harijans) and gandhiji to grant reservation for the untouchables. Like u said the issue leading to the pact was not about voting right to harijans.. it was more about creating a new state for the harijans. Which ofcourse Gandhiji resisited. British had clear idea about dividing Indian natinalistic movement based on religion and caste. And by the way if u didnt know.. every citizen of India irrespective of their religion and caste are allowed to vote if they are above 18 years of age, and their votes carry equal weightage.
