Re: Best Wedding Photographer/Videography in Toronto, Markham, MIssiauga, Brampton, e
Not trying to advertise (kick me off this thread if it appears that I am) but my buddy, Anujaya Dissanayake (AJ) just filmed some video at my most recent engagement session and transformed it into a short teaser clip for the couple as a gift. I’d love to hear your thoughts/comments below if you can! Please PM if you have anything bad to say
Thanks! Again, no advertising going on here - just some market research

From my experience with different vendors, i would highly recommend going thru a checklist with your photographer. There are so many so-called photographers out there who don't even have their own cameras/equipment yet pass themselves as professionals. These so-called photographers are hurting the industry since they lack the proper skills required to capture your wedding. As a client, its your job to do through research to find out what equipment your photographer is using, what cameras/lenses they own and how many wedding clients they have under their belt. Go thru their work and ask them a lot of questions. Just because they have done a couple of engagement shoots is not enough. I would highly recommed going with someone who does photography as a full time job rather than someone who does it as a hobby. But these days anyone can be a photographer as long as u know a little bit of photoshop. One of my good friends hired filmstyle weddings to capture their moments on their special day. They were very disappointed with the photography. The photographer did not capture the right moments and a lot of the shots were close ups of the wider shot that was taken. This client is very disappointed with the photography work and wishes he had gone with someone who was more professional and experienced. He was told that only 400 pictures were taken for their big day and that includes mehndi, shaadi and waleema. Based on my experience I dont think that is enough since an amateur takes on average 400 shots for one event. Just my 2 cents and wanted to share this with everyone.

^ also go to the right vendor for the job. filmstyle's strength is their video, not their photography. one-stop shops rarely offer the quality and expertise you need to get a quality product, imho. just because someone knows how to shoot a great video doesn't mean they always have the right eye for photography.
its best to also ask to see an entire wedding by someone, not just a portfolio of their best shots. that way you'll get a better idea of their range and the breakdown of posed vs. candid shots. also, don't hire a candid/documentary photographer and then be disappointed that there are no group shots of people on stage. again, find someone based on the strength of what they do best. if you want posed photos, hire vijdan. if you want someone documentary or candid style, don't hire vijdan- he doesnt know how to do those and naturally, he won't be that great at it because of that reason.
brides need to be very realistic about what they REALLY want, and what they're willing to pay for it. a pro photographer who is good at what they do is also worth the money they charge and its pretty obvious from when you see their work and meet them. if you pay $900 for 8 hour coverage, guess what, you're going to get something equal to that vs. paying $3500 for 8 hours.

ABCi are amazing for video but are pricey. Flim style weddings and Escape are great too - but again not cheap. Art of video is reasonably priced.
For photography...again depends on how much you're looking to spend and also what style you like. I like Five Fifteen (love them!), Photo terra, Boston Avenue and Mango on the high end side. Garima (G + H) and Stephen Sager are good. Yellow Barn photography is also good - she's an amateur though, but reasonably priced.

in reference to someone wanting to use J Malik Photography:
one of my good friends had them for their wedding last august and is still waiting for her prints!
she said she will never use them again. She was while watching her wedding movie, she noticed that both the husband and wife were acting more like guests than being a photographer.

Hey all - this was a very useful thread! Has anyone had any experience dealing with Ross Creative Photography... we've heard mixed things but really like his style... any positive or negative feedback appreciated!
my cousin used Ross. She's on his website, and she looked gorgeous!

I've been lurking this forum for 6 months. Mostly for photographer and videographer for time being.
We just booked Dmitri Markine www.dmitrimarkine.com yesterday due to a number of recommendations from a lot of people and after looking at his website.
Very expensive compared to other options here, but the work seems to be worth it.
Now we just need to find a video company good enough to document the ceremony.
We don't care much about video, but since our parents are paying 1/2 of the wedding, they insisted on having a video guy.
We still have 16 months left and no real rush for anything else. Photo and Venue was our priority.
The rest is a bit easier to find.
PS. I don't want to name names, but some photographers mentioned here(we met a few...) openly lied to us about their experience(as in years in business and weddings shot).
Others would not have set price lists and as soon as they'd hear our budget, they would give us ridiculously high prices for their services, trying to "milk" us.

We looked at many options for photography but decided to go with Aamer Kapadia www.aamerkapadia.com at the end. His style is a bit different from what is currently offered and that is what attracted us. We've been very happy with the experience so far - looking forward to the wedding photos!

Try Darkroom Doctors Photography as well. Guy’s name is Irfan and he recently shot my wedding.. Did a great job, very good price and is a young, friendly guy who does creative work and not the uncle style photography..
