35 minutes and then 15 minutes, different airlines in the span of last 7 days. I wish it took them 2 minutes. Only 1 Airline does it in under 5 and I wasn’t flying with them. And yes, at the times they are rude and sometimes don’t know what they are doing!
That hasn’t been my experience and that would’ve been ideal.

Mine and co-workers. I know two who quit because the of work required extensive business travel and airport hassles were just too for them. And, yes, that includes International travel, east & west.

Hi, Lux, guess what! They know the SSN, passport #, country and DOB of every American citizen who passes through customs, because the new passports that customs officials swipe through the computers have all that data on them! And I suppose it is probably automatically displayed to customs clearance people, to make sure you fit the identity the passport says you should have. I don’t really see what’s wrong with this – seems like a country has a right to know who is crossing in and out of it??? Lots of international laws at stake, you know!

as far as not giving a “somfin” about religion and culture goes, guess where is the largest muslim conference outside of a muslim country? its ISNA..
and what pakistani culture are you talking about? there is not one monolithical “pakistani” culture, theiur are subcultures of ppl from diff socio economic and regional backgrounds as well as diff between first and second/third gen brits of pakistani origin.
we have all seen the images of Pakistani hoods rioting in bradford, you are more than welcome to that “culture” the civilized British Pakistanis are negatively impacted by the action of these louts whose families should have never left their little backwater pinds in the old country and bothered to bring their idiotic mentality and jahalat to UK.
we have also read reports of forced weddings, and hey even honor killings among the lowest of brit desis..
sadly the same is happenign slowly in the US and canada, bunch of low class, chichora background, sarak chap , footpathia, jahil crowd is gathering due to lax assylum policies that were abused by desis.
Desis in US are much better off because they dont have to deal with the two bit desi thugs as the civilized desis in Uk have to deal with.

hiccup, u forget that I grew up in London, and still consider it home for the most part.
yes you are right there are desi thugs in other areas as well, but the images of bradford have not been replicated anywhere to that level.

My dh’s first name is Muhammad, and my son’s name is Ahmed, and neither have ever been harrassed or detained while travelling. My hubs travels more than twice a month for business, and my son goes with him frequently in the summer and during holidays. I think some people like to exagerrate just a tad.

You might want to reconsider such blanket statements, given that community service is practically a requirement to get into a good college, and occasionally may be a requirement at your job too. The university where I teach requires that we put in a certain number of community service hours per year, and some companies require the same. My husband works for a pharmaceutical company, and is required to attend their charity events.
As far as religion is concerned, let’s just say that I didn’t see many desi women at the mosques in UK, in my town they are full for jummah prayer. We have conferences, summer camps for kids, schools, etc. etc. Your family can be as religious as they want to be.
If you choose to stay in the UK and enjoy your pakistani culture, be prepared for all the unislamic stuff that comes with it.

Iman-walla you're a joke to your name. Is your nickname supposed to be ironic? Pakistani culture is more un-Islamic than American culture. Pakistani culture has so much crap that goes against Islam: honor killings, forced marriages, black magic, etc. In america, you have the choice to go against the so-called "un-Islamic" activities of dating/premarital sex/alcohol being accepted into the society. God forbid, if you were to be raped, or forced into marriage, at least you would get justice here. The law would be on your side, and will protect you. On the other hand, in the so-called "Islamic" republic of Pakistan, if you get raped, you might as well die, coz its acceptable for the family to carry out honor killlings. In america, you have the choice of following your religion, of eating certain foods, dressing a certain way etc etc. In Pakistan, everything is forced on you, and there is no such thing as compulsion in religion, remember?
