Re: Best Food in New York/New Jersey/Connecticut

Jersey City - Shadman on Grove St. (****ty place to eat in but food is really good)
Edison - Shalimar

Paterson - Al Basha best Mediterranean food.

Re: Best Food in New York/New Jersey/Connecticut

So we tried Amin's chinese sometime last week.. hated it! Sorry but the food was just not good at all!! We had black pepper chicken n shrimp fried rice!

but yeah we occassionaly go to Shadman in Jersey City.. like their food especially the samosa chaat! I dun like their customer service though!

Re: Best Food in New York/New Jersey/Connecticut

My SIL raves about AMINs - I don't like it AT ALL. There is a NANKING in Jersey City and I believe there are some VEG Chinese on right on Newark Ave that are pretty good.

Re: Best Food in New York/New Jersey/Connecticut

Thanks for all your suggestions regarding different foods in New York. By December, I will gonna be there.

Re: Best Food in New York/New Jersey/Connecticut

honestly njgal I dunno what is there to like? it was soo blah!!!!

this weekend we tried chinese mirch at lexington ave, NY.. good food, especially the chili paneer, chicken manchurian, and hakka noodles!!! you can order it from mild to very spicy!

We went to Serendipity for dessert but there was hour and a half wait so we ended up at Dylans Candy bar.... ice cream was good!!!

Re: Best Food in New York/New Jersey/Connecticut

Has anyone tried Bhatti's @ lexington? From outside it doesnt seem much better, but its a good restaurant. Its a small restaurant at the corner. The food is awesome! Service is ok too. Worth a try!

Re: Best Food in New York/New Jersey/Connecticut

next time we are in NY.. we will keep that in mind!!!

We went to shalimar last nite in Iselin, NJ.. had their chicken karahi n seekh kabab.. okay food!!!

next on list.. china pagoda :D

Re: Best Food in New York/New Jersey/Connecticut

Bhatti is good, has a pakistani and indian feel to it. The vegetarian dishes are more indian, and the meat stuff is more like how pakistanis make it.

I'd go again.

In long island, there is Spice Village Grill in Huntington, on Main street. Now that is GOOD quality pakistani food. Their avacado chaat is awesome, as are the qeema naans!! The restaurant is small, but ambiance is soft and inviting. You guys should try it :)

Re: Best Food in New York/New Jersey/Connecticut

If your talking about China Pagoda on Route 22 in NJ, dont waste your time, it sucks!!!!! Most of the food in the buffet seems to have the same sauce.....
Amin's is not always consistent. Usually some items are good but sometimes they totally screw it up. Try China Spice on Newark Ave next time, plus Rasoi on Newark ave is good..its not halal but u can have good veggie dishes there :)

as for shadman very affordable for take out dinner once a week :)

Re: Best Food in New York/New Jersey/Connecticut

so last nite we went to the city to see the holiday decor etc and made a special trip to the halal guys at 53rd st and 6th ave.. contrary to what I had heard, there was NO line at all.. just couple of people eating and then we foudn out that its cash only so husband went looking for ATM while I sat there and watched them cook.. this one guy was blowing his nose with the tissue in his hands, no gloves at all and playing with the rice.. another guy was picking up some trash wearing gloves and then went back to the cart with those same gloves on.. by the time my husband came back with cash, I told him I wasn't hungry at all! we just walked away from that cart... sooo unsanitary!

I wonder if people ever get sick there!

sucha waste of time.. we had walked at least 4-5 blocks from rockefeller center to this gyro place!

we tried to find bhattis but lexington ave is hugeee and we didn't know the exact addres... couldn;t go there either :-(

Re: Best Food in New York/New Jersey/Connecticut

Gemini, thanx for sharing yr experience, and sorry for the bust. I doubt if you reached the right Gyro guy cuz they are different Gyro carts standing at almost each corner there .. And the way I recognize this one is any of these two
(a) Long queue
(b) Attitude.. this guy has a lot of attitude problem..

But yes once, due to the reason being getting late and tired of standing in the queue, we decided to take from some other Gyro, and boy, I got my stomach upset so much! Now I just dont try any other gyro.

Here is Bhatti’s website, you can get its address from there:

Re: Best Food in New York/New Jersey/Connecticut

SID I believe this was the right cart.. it was called teh Halal guys and all of them had attitude, when we asked about the card they were very unpolite and told us, cash only and also to get out of the way even though there was no one behind us! and they had these yellow shirts on and yellow bags that also said 53rd st and 6th ave and they had that special white sauce in teh containers there... isnt it the same cart?

well we will try Bhatti's next time when we are in the area.. it's almost 4-5 hours drive from us but we love to travel for food and fun so we will be going there soon!

Re: Best Food in New York/New Jersey/Connecticut

Dude SMH, now I just dont think I'm going to eat that gyro for next some months again..

Re: Best Food in New York/New Jersey/Connecticut

Is Bhattis halal?

Also, any new Halal restaurants in the Upper East Side? I’ve been to Afghan Kebab House and Ravagh.

Re: Best Food in New York/New Jersey/Connecticut

I eat from there all the time. I haven't really seen anything like this. You guys ate after 7:30 pm?

Re: Best Food in New York/New Jersey/Connecticut

Um.. we took quite a firm verbal assurance from Bhatti's owners to be halal when we visited there. Its a new one, I'm not sure if zabihah.com has any record for it.

Isnt Mariachi considered at upper east side? If you havent tried it, go for it, you'll luv it.
There is a turkish restaurant Dardanel at 1st ave. Another afghani Pamir is there. Nirvana is also nearby.

Re: Best Food in New York/New Jersey/Connecticut

Spiral....we didn't eat there (and never will) but yeah we went there around 8:30pm! I really wish I had taken pics of it!!

We have eaten at Mariachi couple of times and I like it..their mexican is okay too but I liked the falafel better! Lovely decor though!

Re: Best Food in New York/New Jersey/Connecticut

I'll check out Mariachi's this weekend. I am in town visiting the parents.

I don't think Nirvana's Halal..It's Indian (non Muslim) owned and I don't take their word at face value.

Also for folks who eat Kosher: Katz Deli + Pastrami = Heaven.

Re: Best Food in New York/New Jersey/Connecticut

Mariachi is very good. I love their food and their service. I think their arabic menu/side is called Marakesh. Goood food.

Re: Best Food in New York/New Jersey/Connecticut

mariachis is the best...i used to go there alot when I was in school, since it was closeby. Good place.
