I’ll totally second Bukhari (or is it bukhara?) We went there earlier and enjoyed it. Small place but the food is really tasty..:k:

Actually there's 2, one is bukhari (which is next to Makki masjid and Gourmet restaurant and across the street from Zaitoon) and the other is Bukhara a few avenues up....which is much fancier....

When did you go? I haven't had anything of theirs besides the biryani :D

Well, time for me to add my updates.

Bukhari on Coney Island Avenue, btwn Ave H and Foster Avenue…has the best biryani. Well the best i’ve ever had so far

Papa’s halal fried chicken, also on Coney island…their fried chicken tastes much better than the typical halal freid places here…

For thsoe who like thai/desi style chinese…i recently visited a place called “Spiced”. its in Astoria, Queens. The food is delicious and the portions are good for hte price. Definitely a good place to take your family or friends.

Oh might I add that Papa’s has these yummy rolls they call “Piyya rolls” (Pizza rolls)

Jun 19, 2010 after Coney Island's mermaid parade :)

We didnt hv the biryani but the curry stuff was too good. That wasnt fancy, rather small .. they had mithai too

umm I think village has improved the quality of their food. try their chicken tikka

And I must say there is one really great desi place in staten island, check them out!

I went to the village on the day of teh mela.....it was alright. Ate there once and didn't like it at all--then again Sultan Grill wasn't that great either. :D

Yea true...
How can I forget Tabaq, its at the old bukhara location.
Their food is AMAZING!!! its cooked after you place an order and you can tell the difference.

Does anyone know if Shahnawaz in NJ is open for iftar on Sundays?

If not, any recommendations for iftar in NJ?

Gemini, where in NJ. I am assuming Edison since you mentioned Shahnawaz. Shahnawaz the restaurant on Oak Tree should be open for Iftari, not sure about the buffet on Jackson.

If all else fails, you can not go wrong with Shalimar, their food is typically consistently good for good ole pakistani food.

I was talking about the buffet one since I didn't even know that there was another one on oak tree!

hmm probably we should try shalimar this time.. where is that located?

Shalimar is also on Oak Tree. :)
Yeah Shahnawaz the regular restaurant is also on Oak tree as well. I would reccommend Shalimar over Shahnawaz.

Isnt it Shalimar, the one right in the begining @ corner, behind which is the sweets shop as well? I found it pretty mediocre, not a high quality food.

I think it is close to the corner, right near the public parking lot (by church). I find it to be better than a lot of other desi joints in that price range. Moghul is good but pricier.

we ended up going to Shadman in Jersey City.. food tasted great but place wasn't good in terms of cleaning and food safety.. it was very cheap too!!

:D i think the best buffet style desi iftaars in NJ are at the masjids and they are free.
