If brass spheres are on sale, worthy shopping for a pair and start looking at the Russian markets?

Re: Best deal you scored this shopping season.
You don’t think it will go down to $30/barrel? Did you hear about the split within OPEC?
Re: Best deal you scored this shopping season.
I didn’t hear about the latest split within OPEC. They always had their ups and downs.
Start of this week I felt the valuations on big oil were getting attractive. As a value investor I hope oil goes to 30. That would be the time to buy.
Unfortunately in the last two days oil stocks have rallied circa 5 pct.
2002.i think crude was 32 dollars a barrrel. Great time to buy the big guys then.
Some of the pure e and p cos have dangerous balance sheet. If bp reaches 30, I am not asking any questions. Just buy.
Of.course these morons like exxon wasted money buying back stock at high prices. That should bite their buttisimo
Re: Best deal you scored this shopping season.
No deals here. only deals are between political parties ![]()

@OP
Christmas is finally upon us. Santa is bringing us some value plays. Did you know that Abercrombie &Fitch, American Eagle Outfitters and Aeropostale have lagged the S&P500 by 85 75 and 124 pct respectfully in the last 2 years?
Re: Best deal you scored this shopping season.
Of course you knew that. For the benefit of the other shopoholics, allow me to provide details, courtesy of the WSJ Dec 3 2013 (Ahead of the tape by Spencer Jakab)
Re: Best deal you scored this shopping season.
The reasons for underperformance will known
Poor traffic in mall
Rise of more nimble competitors who respond fast to fashion trends
Strategic missteps
But are these overly beaten down? The article makes a good case. Why, you ask.
Re: Best deal you scored this shopping season.
The debt adjusted market cap is < 0.5 annual revenue.
You do bring up a good question - what is the average over last 10 years?
1.1.
Re: Best deal you scored this shopping season.
Of course when I read debt adjusted mkt cap, the first thing that I think of is
How much debt do they carry?
That is why you do the balance sheet analysis. Along with income statement and cash flow statement analysis.
Happy shopping, everbody
Re: Best deal you scored this shopping season.
Still catching up on last week’s papers. The above article appeared. Wednesday. On Thursday paper, Abercrombie and Fitch had risen 3.48 pct. Not bad for those who shopped for it.

Re: Best deal you scored this shopping season.
Speaking of oil production companies with poor balance sheets, the Thursday WSJ states some energy company bonds have fallen 50% in the past THREE MONTHS. Ouch. (An honorable member posted recently Gap items were down 50% - but we digress).
Quicksilver Resources Inc. borrowed 1.8 billion in 2008 to “pay for an acquisition”. Its bonds have fallen to 20 cents on the dollar!
So folks. As you review your shopping list, don’t forget to look under the hood. Some of these drillers could go down under.
And we are not speaking of Australia.
