You may not want to reside in the desi area.....but you want to know that the community is accessible.
Makes things like halal food, mosques and social events much easier.

I'm already living in a non-desi area but would love to live in a good desi muslim area...I have heard so much about lots of educated muslims living in Cali, in fact, there's a nice Malay Pakistani family I knew from my Quran class moved there from UK.

What about Atlanta guys. No one mentions that. I like Atlanta. Good educated desi community. Clean place. Some of the major companies' headquater is located there and has some of the best universities. Oh and good weather.

What are the chances of finding a job in oil and gas in Cali or Washington?
I see there are a lot of job openings in Houston but I don't think it's the best area to live.
i lived in both places,
1) Houston
Houston has the largest Pakistani Population in USA, you find a mosque in every 5 mile radius, if you dont want to miss desi environment its best city, as its a oil capital of USA you find lot of jobs in that sector, good school,
Weather, Humid & hot
Culture Very conservative, People are nice, i never had any problem,
2) California, no idea about jobs on oil & gas sector, but plenty of other jobs, Los Angeles has large iranian population, and plenty of mosques, nice weather and plenty of physical activities, snow, ocean, desert everything in 100 miles
very liberal culture do whatever u want,

California is a big state and not one city like Huston. NorCal has San Fransisco and silicon valley with high number of desi population. I believe Fremont and Sunnyvale is the hub of Pakistani and Indian population.
In Socal, LA, orange county have good number of desi population. San Diego is a lovely place with a small Pakistani/Indian/middle eastern population.
I think central CA is mostly agricultural and does not have desi concentration.
North and south CA has big immigrant culture and it is a democratic state meaning generally liberal ppl. Taxes is a red state and ppl with conservative values.
And yeah living cost in CA is higher than other states, especially in Bay area. You can just buy a three bedroom 1200 sq house in Palo Alto for over a million dollars but you''ll be living amongst the brains of silicon valley.

Yep. Cut yoursle foff from a desi community but then dont' cry if your kids aren't "desi" enough for you.
PS, those houses are so beautiful.

Just to experience the life elsewhere. I don't think I'd ever sell my house in UK though. My kids' grandparents are here in UK so I plan to keep coming back for vacations. And I think I do love this country. :(
You're khala's doing well in Houston I guess, that's why she didn't return to UK?
Well, she was happy with the big house, LOL. But now her and her hubby both have long term health issues and they really do miss the free NHS Healthcare! (despite what people say about UK, there is nothing like the NHS!) They wanted to move but now their kids are all grown up and they dont want to come back to UK, so she does not have a choice!
