What is the best place to live in US for a Pakistani muslim?
After a long time, my husband has said something about moving to US, I know it might take us at least 3 years before leaving UK (doing up our current house and renting it out etc) but I want to start planning out and want to do my little research.
Also, how is it in financial terms? How much rent for a good 4 bed house in a nice place? How much road tax and car insurance? any council tax or tax on your property that you have to pay? People who’ve been to both UK and USA, do you think it’s cheaper living in US?
Turkey = very few chances of getting the right sort of job for hubby.
Middle east = yes, that's also on our list but I don't need much info, coz we've already talked to people who moved from UK to Middle east and most of them gave positive feedback so it's definitely an option too but if a good opportunity arises in US in a good area we'll give it a go as well.
China = again most jobs don't match his criteria.
I know a lot of muslims from UK have migrated to California coz it has a nice muslim community so I was curious to know if it's true.
You really wanna go there? … Perhaps it will be easier to go without limiting work requirements … I really need to get a business up and running rather than continue the way I am … so it’s not important that a job in O&G is not taken I am willing to do any nice job if the place is good. Otherwise a long term contract anywhere in the world would be good experience … don’t you think?
Yes it will all depend on his job. I think few things to consider would be, muslim community, pakistanis, cost of living, good universities around, taxes, weather etc.
apparently......but I believe there are pockets of desi communities as well.
I have been to Dallas but not to Houston.......but I know someone very well that lives in Houston.
the point is that you can have a great job for hubby and spend less to live in a beautiful mansion.
hubby's cousin who lives in Dallas calls the huge houses there "McMansions" because the cost to purchase is relatively lower than other parts of the country.
Texas overall does. Houston doesnt. There are very good neibourhoods around houston that you can live in. Sugar Land is one of them and was named one of the best ten places to live in US. Big masjid's, great schools, great desi community. Its not like Chicago where the desi community is in once place its very spread out here and you can find a masjid and a desi store any where in the city. Also, there is no state or city income tax and cost of living being low from DC or CA.
Also, wanted to add that I m originally from Chicago, have lived in St. Louis and am now living in Houston for the past 5 years.
