PCG I just read bellas clarification to u. That is how I interpreted her post. She was only going after a version of Islam that is being followed by some that uses such laws.

Maybe thread should be closed?

PCG and others have a biased view of my posts simply because im an ex-muslim or maybe because im married to a non-muslim and she has made plenty of comments regarding how my husband must be influencing me. so anything i post is automatically considered ‘evil’ and anti-muslim.
i dont think the thread should be closed, unless it has violated any rules.

As for the question posed to you about what ur position is on Qur’an stating one should not marry non muslim please pose this question

Is that person living his life per Qur’an teachings 100 pct. How many here are. As for controversial so be it. If reality is controversial.we all should embrace controversy.

Yes, i condemn it from both sides. being a murder and using it to malign the religion. Islam got teachings of ‘La-ikraha fiddin’ and ‘Lakum Deenkum Waliyadin’ in case of people with different beliefs, but at the same time one should not be stupid to call himself / herself a Muslim and then goes against the specific teachings of Islam to invite rage in societies where just marrying outside caste / tribe can be taken as an offense. In other societies, I’ll call it hypocrisy to call yourself Muslim and goes against the specific rulings / teachings of Islam in the name of freedom of bla bla.

Indigo Rain is really stretching it. Calling this a poll. And then stating people who conduct a poll have a point to prove.

We all write posts to prove some point or another. So what? I may want to pro e a point about climate change. Someone may want to prove a point on another topic. Nothing sinister there.

The operating word in bellas question was “such” shariah laws. Focus on su h. As in - in THIS case.

Speaking of bigotry, there was a reference to Hindu culture as basis for bad laws against women. I believe it is in this thread. I see no protest.

Bella in fact has stated MULTIPLE times this is not about Islam. But about such MISINTERPRETATION of Shariah law. Still folks are painting her as bigoted, with contempt for religion etc etc.

And this poster makes a disrespectful post towards “Hindu culture” - mind you , not MISINTERPRETATION of Hindu culture - and not a sound.

Personally, I don’t have a problem with that post criticizing “Hindu culture.” There are lots I can find fault in the way it is followed today. And some disagreement with a passage in Gita.

However, if you are going to go after " Hindu culture", then don’t be defensive when someone goes after MISINTERPRETATION of Islam, not Islam. You would at least agree this is much milder than an attack on “Hindu culture”. But to turn this into an attack on Islam? Come on!

Now, if you are looking for bigotry, look no further than the above example.

I think that people also often ignore that we’re all human and humans have a nasty tendency to cherry pick what we like about something and what suits us and ignore the bits that do not suit us. This is a human trait and crosses race, culture and religion. Every religion has people who do this and Islam is no exception. It’s just a matter of what people choose to cherry pick.

As such, it is inappropriate and unfair to hold all Muslims accountable for the fact that some societies, such as Sudan where this case took place, choose to follow an extreme interpretation of Islam and literally enforce this extreme interpretation. I also think it’s a bit naive to believe that such societies do this out of religious fervour or in support of Islam. They do this because it suits them as it supports they’re pre-existing belief systems and societal norms.
