of course, Muslims are one of the biggest buyers of these saaRiis and to ur surprise lemme add that the entire business of saaRii making is in the hands of Muslims.
i would say may be Rs. 10,000 at the top end while Rs. 5000 at the lower end...all Rupess are in Indian Rupees.
Starting range of good banarsi silk sarees is now around INR 8000 and there is virtually no upper limit. I just saw a saree about 2 months ago which was for around INR 3 lakhs. Apparently, it had some real silver woven into the sari.
1) The place of manufacturing is different. Banarsi sarees are from Varanasi and Kanjeevaram saris are from Kanchipuram.
2) Kanjeevaram sarees use much heavier silk (3 ply) when compared to Banarasi sarees.
3) Traditional Banaras motifs are more influenced by the Moghuls while the Kanjeevaram saree motifs are more inspired with motifs of birds, feathers, leaves, temples, etc.
Traditional Benarasi sarees are trendier always.I’m so fond of Benarasi Sarees esp.those with mughal designs. It’s unique and colourful designs keeps it stunning to wear in weddings and party occasions.
