Is it still in fashion? heard that for ages Banaras was famous for its saris all over India.

yes banarasi sarees are still worn by ladies..during different family functions.....
in our part its called banarasi shalu......some times silver used for work on banarasi sarees thats what i know...

silver work. That might made the expensive.
I read that in old days printing work on Banarsi Saris was done in Delhi.
Why Sarees of Banaras are popular? Due to cloth material or what?

yes, i think on weddings, those who wear saaris, prefer Banarasii saarees. shaadii emN dulhan ko bil-zaroor saaRiyaan dii jaatii haiN! :)

KKF any idea, how much a reasonable Banarsi Sari costs? Is it also popular among Muslim ladies?

of course, Muslims are one of the biggest buyers of these saaRiis and to ur surprise lemme add that the entire business of saaRii making is in the hands of Muslims.
i would say may be Rs. 10,000 at the top end while Rs. 5000 at the lower end...all Rupess are in Indian Rupees.

yes because uss mei pait visible hota hai, even if tummy is covered, it shows the body shape i guess thts y consider un islamic

wo wali saree jis main badan nazar aaye woh ghair islami hai. mager ager proper parda kay sath pehni jaye to halal hai. baqi main bhi suna hai kay gheer islami hai. mager abhi tak sure nahi hon. i will search authentic fatwa, but at the moment i never worried about it, but will find for you if you are in need.
