Philosophical? I'm not sure. For me it is not. For me it is not even a question. I know that I exist and I'm an atheist. So... The question is answered unequivocally.

from fire worshippers first. then from ancient hindus. then other groups, then jews, then christians, then muslims. holy books were written by humans who are scared of death. there is no magical being up in space.

p.s. aliens likely exist.

If atheists believe in ethics and morals, they believe in God. if athiests believe in humanity, they believe in God. If athiests believe in love and peace, they believe in God. If athiests believe in some universal intelligence controlling the sun, moon, planets, and galaxies, they believe in God.

Anything good, high, positive is, but another face of God.

Well, I'm not very proficient in the tenants of Islam, but I guess it is not much different from other religions - something along the lines "everybody is inherently aware of God, unless they are corrupt or a rebel or whatever...".
I don't buy it. As I see it, everyone is born as an atheist. I mean a baby is born without any beliefs. It acquires beliefs later on as it acquires knowledge. For someone grown in a theistic surrounding the theistic worldview comes very naturally - existence of God is taught to him/her to be as basic as day and night. Eventually, it becomes a part of one's basic understanding of the world. Yet, for people grown in a non-theistic environment, this belief never becomes a part of "basic training". I am a third generation of atheists in my family. I was never taught that God exists or anything about God at all. I've never been exposed to the idea of God beyond the notion of "imaginary friend for some people". When I grew "older and wiser" I obviously learned about religion and its role in human life, but my basic understanding did not change -- God is an imaginary friend for people who needs one or have been taught to have one.
Anyway, I'm also a scientist, and for one, if your theory does not fit the facts of reality (experiment), you should reevaluate your theory. Unless, of cause, you are in a business of blind faith, when you you don't let facts interfere with your preconceptions.

Atheists don't believe in "universal intelligence", but they do accept love, peace, humanity, and they follow ethics and morality, albeit objective one's, unrelated to gods and religions. It's usually referred as secular humanism.

It has nothing to do with that ... That would be the concept of fitrah ... The concept I was referring to is in Islam the fact that someone chooses to deny God they are putting themselves in the place of God in which case "your God" according to Islam is your own intellect - or the fact that you ascribed characteristics to your intellect that would otherwise be ascribed to God - you in effect become your own God. Atheist may mean something in the way of not believing in a Deity, but essentially we say that you have deified your self, to which you will disagree from your perspective you - an atheist, exist ... from our perspective you are just a Mushrik (person who associates partnership or replaces God)

I just saw this thread. I am probably the openly outspoken Atheist/Agnostic on this forum that I have come across. But there are always tonnes of us hidden under religious people.. keeping in touch with religious because of cultural and family bonds but not really buying into all the stories.

On your question, you are absolutely correct. Absence of proof is not proof of absence. It is not logical to say that there definitely 100% is no controller of this universe. All most atheists say is that there is no proof that there is.. so stop living your life according to the notion that something like that does exist.

Meaning, you rather be safe than sorry. It seems you turned down a path because a bear may or may not be behind that tree. You rather be safe than sorry, I think it's a sorry excuse and a cop out. Don't worry, your're n the company of the masses, safety in numbers, right?

If there is something within you that forces you to follow a certain code of conduct, that something is God.

One can never become a complete person, the extraordinary and marvelous person he is meant to be, through any other route. Pathway to God is the Only pathway to success.
