And the reason we have other members of the selection commitee is ????

From the current tensions btw the players & the coach....I have stopped liking Aamir Sohail.....
And Lt Tauqir Zia is definitely wrong....Aamir is not a straight forward person, instead he is a RUDE & "Badtameez Aadmi".....He doesn't have a respect for Miandad, who is atleast 15 years senior to him or for his own colleague Inzamam(who infact is also senior to him & is/was a much better player then him)....
I think the only guy who has to pack his bags is Aamir Sohail.

Talha…that one specific player is Miandad’s nephew Faisal Iqbal.

Is Tauqir protecting Sohail at the expense of Pakistan cricket?](http://www.jang-group.com/thenews/nov2003-daily/16-11-2003/sports/s3.htm)

Some strange things happened in Lahore on Friday as chief selector Aamer Sohail who was supposed to get flak and perhaps even the sack from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman ended up getting praise and support for his tendency to upset smooth sailing of things.

Chairman Tauqir Zia told reporters that Aamer was a straight forward person and he had done a good job in the rebuilding process of team after the World Cup."

“If the chief selector runs after his members, captain, coach, PCB chief executive and chairman for their views about the selection it would be a cumbersome procedure,” he said with reference to the complaint by Inzamam-ul-Haq and Javed Miandad about not being consulted by Aamer when he finalized the probables for the New Zealand series.

“Aamer has been given until February to do his job and let him do it,” Tauqir said.

Fine but if Aamer is doing a good job as chief selector then obviously Inzamam and Miandad didn’t behave properly by going to town about his behavour and efforts to demean them in the selection process.

And what about the confirmed serious complaints made by the two to Tauqir about how Aamer was creating problems for them by trying to spread disunity in the ranks of the players?

Obviously someone or both parties were at fault in the recent serious dispute which caught the attention of the nation and was described by Tauqir himself on Friday as disappointing and as mud-slinging.

And if one goes by the Board press release then Tauqir, like a good teacher strong on discipline and principles, called Inzamam, Miandad and Sohail and after rapping them on their knuckles told them to go home and behave themselves or face expulsion.

All very well, but in reality it is just a cosmetic move to try to mend the seriously damaged relations between the team management and the chief selector who has been going around in Lahore telling everyone that he is going to set the others right.

**And why the public show of support and praise for just Sohail?

Even a layman knows that sooner or later the trouble is going to start again between Inzamam, Miandad and Sohail knowing the contumacious character the latter is.**

And apparently, Sohail has played his cards right in the whole affair.

That he has had problems with Miandad over selection issues is no secret but he showed he is also prepared to take on Inzamam when in a shrewd move he deliberately put him in an embarrassing position.

Inzamam really got upset with Sohail when he went and told the press that he had only included Moin Khan in the camp on the insistence of the captain.

Sohail’s public announcement put Inzamam in an embarrassing position with Rashid Latif who was responsible for insisting on Inzi’s second coming and also his loyal ones in the team.

Because, rest assured Rashid might not be in the team but his influence still remains in a big way in the outfit and it is now easy to understand why Inzamam, one day after Sohail had spilled the beans on how the captain had rooted for Moin, came out with a statement saying he also wanted to see Younis Khan and Saqlain Mushtaq in the team.

But anyway it is clear that from all that happened on Friday, Sohail has emerged in a stronger position with a rap on the knuckles for everyone but not a single word of praise for the captain or coach. It says a lot.

Given Inzamam and Miandad’s past track record it would have been too much to expect them to take a joint stand against Sohail the chief selector in front of the Chairman.

Miandad, privately, may say a lot of things but to be honest neither he nor Inzamam have the strong will and honest approach of a Rashid Latif who had the guts to tell the Chairman before stepping down as captain that the selectors/Sohail would end up disrupting the entire rebuilding process of the Pakistan team.

And for the record Rashid has told Tauqir in clear words that he is going to expose Sohail’s designs to the public soon. Only a man of integrity and guts can say something like that.

Miandad and Inzamam sadly fall short on this count or else one would have heard something about a resignation soon after Tauqir ended up praising Sohail. This way or that way.

Tauqir Zia must think Rationally… Why would Rashid, Inzi, Miandad and even Youhana would complain about Sohail again and again? Are they all insane or is Sohail is the only honest, straightforward person on the face of earth, rest are cry babies??

to complain about his behaviour when he snubs them...

Chalo, Miandad aur inzi ko tup charh gayee :hehe:, rightly so :k:

Inzamam, Miandad, Haroon protest with Tauqir over Sohail’s praise](http://www.jang-group.com/thenews/nov2003-daily/17-11-2003/sports/s1.htm)

The Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Lt. General (retd) Tauqir Zia was forced to hold another closed door meeting on Sunday with the Pakistan team management and the chief selector after a protest was lodged by captain Inzamam-ul-Haq and coach Javed Miandad.

‘The News’ has learnt from available details that Inzamam, Miandad and even manager Haroon Rasheed on Sunday protested with the chairman over his statement to reporters the other day, praising the performance of Aamer Sohail and his subsequent behaviour.

“The three were very upset that they had been shown up in very poor light despite their genuine complaints against the chief selector who received some praise from the Chairman who met with the team management and the chief selector separately on Thursday and Friday,” a source disclosed.

“They conveyed this to Tauqir Zia on Sunday making it clear they were not happy with the situation and with the way the Chairman was supporting Sohail despite his misbehavior and strong statements against the captain and coach in recent days,” the source said.

According to him, Tauqir Zia decided to call a joint meeting to sort out the matter and the meeting lasted for a while but no one in the board was willing to give out details as to what had transpired in the meeting.

But the source said Inzamam and Miandad came out strongly in the meeting and it was Sohail who was put under pressure. But in the end the Chairman also told all of them that he was getting fed up with their petty differences and would be forced to take extreme measures to settle the issue which was damaging Pakistan cricket.

It was the first time that Inzamam and Miandad came face to face with Sohail after the row broke out between them when a week ago Sohail announced a pool of 22 players for the series against New Zealand without consulting them.

The source said that the captain and coach were still insistent on some players being added to the pool of 22 and that in future they wanted some say in the selection of even probable players by the selection committee.

Tauqir Zia took everyone by surprise when after his meeting with Sohail on Friday, the Board issued a statement saying that all three had been warned to behave themselves or face the sack.

But on the same day Tauqir spoke to reporters in Lahore and had some positive words to say about Sohail’s performance but made no mention about the captain or coach.

“Any decisions taken in the closed doors meeting should be known in the next 24 hours but until than it is difficult to say what had been decided at the meeting,” the source admitted.

If the board decides to add any more players to the pool of 22 players, particularly, experienced batsman Younis Khan or Saqlain Mushtaq it would definitely be a setback for the chief selector as he already has had to include Moin Khan in the training camp after earlier dropping him from the list of probables.

Now there is only one soultion for the situation. Inzimam should resign as captain, Miandad should resign as coach. Junaid Zia be made captain, while Amir Sohail should be commentator, cheap selector and coach and we will have a big happy PCB family :k:

I informed PCB in advance about cricket column: Rashid Latif](http://www.jang-group.com/thenews/nov2003-daily/17-11-2003/sports/s5.htm)

Pakistan’s former captain Rashid Latif said on Sunday that he had informed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in advance about his column in ‘The News on Sunday’ dealing with the crisis in Pakistan cricket and chief selector Aamir Sohail.

Asked if he feared any disciplinary action by having written a hard hitting column on the state of affairs in Pakistan, revealing the problems he faced with Sohail, Rashid said he had in advance sent a copy of his article to the Board for their acknowledgement.

“I informed them that since the last contract I signed with the Board was in June before the England tour, the code of conduct for the players was no longer a binding on me,” he explained.

The PCB has a code of conduct in the contract it gives to players which states clearly that no player can give statements or interviews on any contentious issue without the permission of the board until he remains under contract of the board from the date of signing and three months after the completion of that particular tour.

However, sources said that Rashid had also explained to the Board in his letter the reasons for writing the column particularly dealing with his relationship with the chief selector while he was captain.

Rashid has admitted in his column that he had problems with Sohail and it eventually influenced his decision to take a break from the game before the Test series against South Africa.

Chief selector Aamer Sohail subsequently announced a pool of 22 players for the one-day series against New Zealand and dropped Rashid from it without citing any logical reason for such a drastic decision.

Sources said Rashid had in his letter to the board pointed this out and informed it clearly that he was keen to continue playing for Pakistan and had the past and present record to prove he deserved the wicketkeeper’s spot in the team.

I read the above-mentioned column and it truly was annoying to read Sohail’s deeds. Yes we can argue that Rashid may have been exaggerating but simple logic states that four persons cannot lie about same thing regarding cheif selector. PCB can turn a blind eye and pretned that a simple warning will do the trick but they are sorely mistaken.

or we could take my suggestion and make Imran and Wasim the captain and coach respectively?

There would remain no need to hold the 2007 Cup then, the organizers can just give us the cup and be done with it.

^^ sambs yaara, i have seriuos doubts on Imran’s state of mind these days. He has turned into an agitator rather than a fighter he was in his playing days. And as much as i would like to see Wasim made selector, i also fear that he would also adopt the favoritism he was accused so much of during his captaincy.

Saeed Anwar :k: A humble person, who would like to go along with people rather than ‘on a teaching lesson spree’ like Aamir sohail.

Saby bhai, I want Asif Iqbal and Rashif Latif to be in the team management at some point. In general, I'm opposed to having recently retired players in any kind of management position. Otherwise, Saeed and Rashid would be excellent selectors, imo.

yaar Asif Iqbal totally lost my respect during his commentry at ARY while criticizing Miandad and Rashid for that bangladesh series, specially regarding that disputed catch, bringing the relegion issue up which was so uncalled for. An article was also posted here at kk regarding that opinion. Plus his criticism is unfair sometimes, like he criticizes ramiz for commentating while we all know how well Ramiz behaves in both position he holds..

While i think Rashid can play for atleast an year, depending on his relations with the board and management. But yes he can be agood selector as most current players hold him responsible for their success just because he either persisted with them (Yousuf Youhana despite his initital failures) or his spport at his academy (Younis Khan, Mohammad Sami).

If the above is true, this whole sorry episode will come to an unfortunate end sooner rather than later.

If they can't work things out, let both of them go. I think we've seen enough.

Send Aamir Sohail homewith his bags packed///we can find many good selectors in Pakistan.

Saby I cant read urdu…can u translate this

Junaid Zia shrugs off past failures to shine again

By Waheed Khan

KARACHI: When Junaid Zia was pushed over others into international cricket during the one-day series against Bangladesh last September he faced several embarrassing moments from his teammates, spectators and the masses in general in the four matches he played.

The Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq was clearly reluctant to trust him with the new ball or introduce him into the attack in the first 15 overs.

One also witnessed Inzamam being forced to move him up into the circle to field after he came under a barrage of insulting remarks while fielding on the rope, making it clear that he was not in the Pakistan team because of his performances but because of his family background.

This was not surprising given he is the eldest son of the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Lt. General (retd) Tauqir Zia who, the word goes, walked out in disgust after his son bowled badly against the Bangladeshi batsmen in the fourth match in Rawalpindi.

At that time it was obvious to all that chief selector Aamer Sohail or his fellow selectors had done no service to Pakistan cricket or even to Junaid Zia by pushing him into the international cricket arena so early where a premature debut has resulted in many promising careers being destroyed.

But it says a lot about the character and mental toughness of the junior Zia and also his passion for the game that since that unnerving experience he has grown in stature as a bowler.

A successful cricketer is one who learns from his mistakes and Junaid clearly has done this from his experience against Bangladesh.

Soon after those four matches he emerged as Pakistan’s best bowler in the Emerging Nations Trophy in Sri Lanka, bagging the man of the series award, and since returning home has been outstanding for Customs in the inter-departmental qualifying rounds bagging 27 wickets in four matches and a half matches so far.

Anyone who has watched his progress since his emergence as a junior cricketer knows well that where he lacks in talent, he tries to make up with sheer hard work and that perhaps is the biggest reason for his recent successes which would have done his family proud.

Playing for Customs his fielding has also improved but the Customs coach, former Test player Jalaluddin remains disillusioned with his batting. “He has the ability to bat better but he is just concentrating on his bowling and his batting has suffered.”

More importantly Junaid has also clearly improved his bowling action to such an extent that now the tongues that used to wag about his bowling style have also shut out. Although he would do no harm to himself if he works slightly more on his action to remove even those odd suspicions that creep up after a delivery here or there.

With so much emphasis on rebuilding and trying out new players, Junaid could not have picked a better time to improve his standing and given that he has been through the grind of under-15 and under-19 cricket, his selection in the Pakistan A team that goes to India next month for the triangular series is a foregone conclusion. And this time no one will say his selection has been made because of his father.

But there is a certain lobby which believes that his performances warrant him a place atleast in the Pakistan camp being held for the New Zealand series.

**If the selectors have picked players for the camp on merit and performance, then certainly Junaid should be allowed a chance in the training camp, but he has to decide now if this will help further in what appears to be a promising future now?

Only time will tell, but clearly Junaid appears destined to join those band of young players who have gone onto play quality cricket on merit despite having a famous father or uncle in the cricket fraternity. And mind you there have been just a few such cases in Pakistan. Majid Khan and his son Bazid Khan, Mudassar Nazar, Shoaib Muhammad, Sadiq Muhammad, etc.**

One thing is for sure; Tauqir Zia made the right decision three years ago when pained by the criticism over the selection of his sons Junaid and Talal in the Pakistan junior team he decided that he would only allow one of them to take a proper shot at the game. He didn’t err by giving that chance to Junaid Zia.

^^maybe now aamir sohail will have a good reason to choose junaid zia now that he has performed well in domestic

yaar it says ‘that Miandad and Aamir sohail’s relation have reached a point-of-no-return. PCB will end this issue in a day or two and most probably one of them will have to go. According to sources in Lahore, Miandad, Sohail and HAroon Rashid met with Zia but there wasnt any decision made. According to sources, things have gone this worse that Miandad is not wolling to owrk with Sohail at any cost and Sohail’s behavior is causing more headaches for PCB. Despite Zia’s efforts, Miandad and Sohail’s relation is getting increasingly strained. At the time when NZ series is round the corner, Board has to choose between chif selector and coach. Zia has to make an importtant decision after mondays meeting, this is a repeat of 1998 when Miadad was coach and Sohail had to relenquish captaincy’

I hope my rusty translation skils didnt ruin the news :hehe:
