Amir Sohail - kub sudhre gaa!/ PCB Warns feuding quartet

Yes Sambs, but how can we say that Miandad is the main culprit here? In all probaility and evidence, even a common follower can say who is at fault here. I agree Miandad is kinda pain in the neck for most ppl and for himself too, but in thie scenario its not miandad who is at fault.

Regarding Latif, I can understand that Inzimam is pissed at him because he might feel that Latif should have stayed after he tried to pursuade Latif , but latif had his geuine reasons. But Sohail and Rashid also had problems and that too because of Sohail's continuous arrogant attitude.

since we have few ppl supporting Aamir Sohail here, I would like to call a poll on 'Who should resign?' Aamir or Miandad.
Ehsan bhai, plz if you could add the poll today. It will be interesting to see what ppl say. Its my gutt feeling that one would have to leave, sooner or later. They just can't get along with each other.

I wish Ramiz could do all the jobs :smack2: He is the best choice Tauqir Zia could have made, he was the sole man responsible for SA tour, partially responsible for Indo-pak resumption. I wish he starts making the selectorial decisions again, i bet he wont piss even half of the peaple Sohail does.

Saby bhai,

in normal circumstances or if this was the first time, I would have supported Miandad too. But this has been going on for too long. He has problems with Imran, the whole ninties team, Rashid, Sohail. That is a lot of people. On top of that, it's not going to be long before Inzi and him have a lovemaking session too. I've had enough of him and instability. I will be happy if he gets kicked out. Even that Saffie dude was better than Miandad, at least he could get along with people.

About Latif: I used to be such a big fan of his but his recent antics like the letter to the ICC really turned him off. But the recent happenings have reminded me why I became a fan of Latif's at all. Even if he kept poorly against the Saffies in the ODI series for whatever personal reasons, he had the guts and integrity to step out of the team. He did not hold the team and its success for ransom. I don't think the same can be said of anyone of the present team management.

i remember it was reported in one of these articles that miandad had some selection issues with inzi after inzi failed to take his on certain selections!!

I also doubt the credibility of these reports on "the news". I mean they come up with something one day and the next day they write another thing totally contrary to what they wrote before. How do they get so many details anywayz??

Politics In, PLayers out](BBC Urdu)

special article by Rashid latif for BBC.

what's going on ay? Kick out the Coach when things finally begin to look good for Pakistan - yeah do so because this has been going for over a decade or so - 17 Captains, did I get the number right or have I lost the count?

I thought we totally eradicated this BS politics after the World Cup. Otherwise it wouldnt' have made any sense kicking out Wasim Akram ,waqar, inzi etc. We call back senior players and there you go .somethings never change.

When Tauqir appointed Miandad and Amir Sohail it was very well predicted that this may turn out to be ugly. Initially everyone pretended to be all united and committed but after some success of the team Miandad and Amir sohail both have been flying high and also at the same time getting cockier . Instead of acting responsibly both of these clowns are making sure the rest of the world are being entertained. It's a fact both parties(coaching and selection committee) are doing a very good job in making the right decisions and getting the best out of every player but it doesn't mean that you can now act like d1%$heads.

I'm pissed. This whole drama is a step back of our progress. It's taking a wrong direction. If I had a choice I would kick both of them out.

OMG, HAHAHA. I would strongly urge all Pak fans to read this article if you guys understand Urdu. Sohail is a dickhead - I don’t think there is any point of stating the obvious.

But I’ll translate what Latif said about Miandad after he mentions all the differences he had with Sohail over Hafeez, Afridi, Misbah, Farhan Adil, Yasir Hameed, etc. He says, “When I sought Miandad’s help/support in sorting out selection matters, I found him concerned about the selection of only one specific player and no much else”. So much for Miandad’s “commitment and dedication”.

Our team management is run by a bunch of clowns. If we lose the series against India 'cause these idiots can’t control their bloated egos, Sohail and Miandad ought to be fired and never allowed within 10 km of any Pak player.

PCB lays down the line on squabblers

PCB lays down the line on squabblers

Wisden Cricinfo staff

November 14, 2003

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken a serious line on the behaviour of the team management for their in-house squabbling, as well as Shoaib Akhtar for his remarks about the board in a recent interview. The PCB did not impose any sanctions on the guilty party, which consisted of Inzamam-ul-Haq, Javed Miandad, Aamir Sohail, and Shoaib, but warned them to play by the rules or “pack your bags and go home”.

Ever since Inzamam, the captain, and Miandad, the coach, revealed that they hadn’t been consulted about the choices made by Aamir Sohail for the squad for the forthcoming New Zealand series, there has been an uproar. Inzamam and Miandad were reported to be livid about their snub from Sohail, who publicly criticised the performance of the coach on TV commentary.

However, in an attempt to bring the feud to an end, Lt Tauqir Zia, the PCB chairman, today said in a statement: “I am utterly disappointed with a series of statements issued by the team officials and the chief selector. I am sad that such big names of cricket representing a responsible organization have indulged in mud-slinging.”

He continued: “I have met all the four officials and have conveyed my disappointment to them. I have warned them that the PCB will not tolerate any further statements from them against each other. They have also been informed that the PCB will be forced to ask them to pack their bags and go home if any further statements are attributed to them. They have been advised to sort out their problems in the PCB offices rather than going to the press and making a mockery of their status and stature.”

A PCB spokesman added that as far as they’re concerned, the case is closed and they will not make any further statements on this issue.

Meanwhile, Shoaib was reprimanded for criticising the ICC and the PCB in an interview in a local Urdu newspaper. On that matter, the same spokesman said: “He has been told in no uncertain terms to refrain from statements that are against the ICC and PCB policies.” The board did, however, did later receive an apology from Shoaib.

Other matters discussed in the two-day meeting included a review of the Bangladesh and South African series and the management of the forthcoming one-day international series against New Zealand – which is now under threat due to security reasons. They also discussed the tour of New Zealand, the junior teams to go to India and Bangladesh, the hosting of the Asia Cup, India’s tour to Pakistan, and the domestic competitions.

Ramiz Raja, the chief executive, said a proposed itinerary had been sent to the Indian board consisting of three Tests and seven ODIs, with the venues yet to be decided. It was also revealed that Pakistan would bid to host next year’s Asia Cup, even though Bangladesh have currently got the rights to hold the competition.

Ramiz said: "We will bid for the tournament to be organized in April and May. We have decided to bid for the tournament after New Delhi allowed BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) to resume cricket activities with and in Pakistan.

It was also decided that the probables for next year’s Under-19 World Cup and the Pakistan A team’s tour to India in December will be announced on Monday.

Four leading figures in Pakistani cricket have been warned they must end an unsightly internal war of words.
**The men under the cosh are captain Inzamam-ul-Haq, coach Javed Miandad, chief selector Aamir Sohail and fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar. **

They have been warned to abide by a code of conduct or face dismissal.

Lt Gen Tauqir Zia, chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, said: **“We will not tolerate any further statements from them against each other.”

Zia continued: "I am utterly disappointed that such big names of cricket representing a responsible organization have induldged in mud-slinging. **

The PCB also revealed it has set up a proposed tour itinerary for three Tests and seven one-day internationals at home to India in March 2004.

Venues will be finalised once India approves the dates.

Re: PCB warns feuding quartet

ugh. Tauqeer Zia can do a lot of things but dismissing Shoaib is not one of them. Why mislead the public.

The best solution would have been to get rid of one of those three, (ideally Sohail) to avoid any future munh-maari. Becuase though the matter has apprently been put to an end there must be some bitterness among these three. Zia has put a short-term solution here where he should have shown far-sightedness.

Anyways it would be fun to hear Sohail in the commentry box now :roman: :hehe:

Sohail v Miandad

One positive that arose from Pakistan's disappointing showing at the 2003 World Cup 2003, was that Javed Miandad then returned to the fold. His appointment to coach the young blood injected much-needed energy and enthusiasm into the team. In Pakistan you often hear comments to the effect that Pakistan cricket is always safer when it is in the hands of Javed. He is the undisputed king of cricket in Pakistan – which leads some other leading personalities to be wary, even jealous, of him.

And now one of those who made his debut under Javed Miandad's captaincy is going out of his way to criticise his mentor. Aamer Sohail was given a great honour when he was appointed Pakistan's chairman of selectors, in what was a well-intentioned move to show how keen Lt-Gen. Tauqir Zia, the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman, was to get the country's cricket back on track. Sohail, who is also a TV commentator, must have impressed the PCB bigwigs with his insight on the game.

However, Sohail has crossed the fine line between being proactive and being dictatorial, by ignoring – or not even bothering to seek – advice from a man whose knowledge of the game, and the players he is coaching, is second to none.

Javed Miandad always was a master tactician, and presumably he felt at first that it had been agreed that he would not be involved in selection, and the selectors wouldn't get involved in coaching. This approach was long-overdue in Pakistan cricket – but it only works if the personalities are compatible. Ignoring the chance of consultation with a person like Javed is simply undesirable, especially when the team is being rebuilt.

Nevertheless Sohail started publicly criticising the performance of the coach, using his TV commentary as a platform. And now, in unilaterally announcing a 22-man list of probables for the five-match one-day series against New Zealand, he has managed to upset not only the coach but also the captain, the PCB chief executive, and his fellow selectors. This lack of consultation has resulted in a media outcry, and a sea of statements and counter-statements – just when Pakistan cricket was on the way up.

It's high time that these matters were set straight. Aamer Sohail, as the chief selector, has a duty to provide the coach with the best available squad. They should already be almost the finished articles, just like the Aussies or the Indians, ready for the coach to apply the final polish and teach them the rigours and strategies of international cricket.

International cricket remains the ultimate forum, and to think or even express on television that someone should be taught cricket at that level by the coach or captain is living in a fool's paradise. No coach can go out and play, no matter how great a player he might have been. It's the player who has to go out and perform: the coach can only spruce up the 90-95% players and make achieve 110% or more.

But during his tenure Sohail has selected a number of average – and even below-average players – who were found lacking in the international arena. There you don't have time for learning the basics, you are playing for your nation and the people want to see you perform, not watch you taking an exam in front of the TV cameras.

Recently Pakistan have given caps to youngsters like Yasir Ali, Faisal Iqbal, Farhan Adil and Junaid Zia, who have all struggled. A player like Mohammad Hafeez, who has serious technical flaws, has been given a long run in the side too. That's not Hafeez's fault – the fault lies with the selectors who chose him before he was ready.

This latest squabble over the unwarranted criticism of the coach will take its toll on the young team's morale, just when important new challenges lie ahead, like the long-awaited arrival of the Indian team and the Asia Cup. If Aamer Sohail feels that he can somehow overshadow the legacy of Javed Miandad he must wake up and face the truth – his credentials do not match.

PCB chairman backs controversial Aamir

LAHORE, Nov 14: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)'s ad hoc chairman, Lt. Gen (Retd) Tauqir Zia has backed controversial chief selector Aamir Sohail in the latter’s spat with coach and captain Javed Miandad and Inzamam-ul-Haq.

“Aamir is an aggressive man and a straightforward person and as chief selector his job is to select 16 probables and the final selection is the task of the captain” Tauqir told newsmen.

He praised Aamir for doing good work in the rebuilding process of the team. “Aamir has been given till February to complete this process and let him do his job”, he said. “If the chief selector runs after his members, captain, coach, PCB chief executive and chairman for their views about the selection it would be a long and cumbersome procedure”, he argued.

Tauqir said that he advised Aamir to include Moin Khan in the list of probables when he heard in England about the former skipper’s omission after the team management was not happy with the performance of Kamran Akmal against Bangladesh.

The PCB chief disclosed that Cricket Australia had offered a proposal to PCB of holding a tri-nation series in England prior to ICC Champions Trophy next year. “Cricket Australia made the offer to compensate for the losses incurred by PCB while hosting home series against Aussies in Sharjah and Sri Lanka” he added.

Later PCB issued a press release stating that PCB has taken a serious view of the violation of code of conduct by the Pakistan cricket team management and Shoaib Akhtar. PCB, however, did not impose any sanctions on Inzamam, Miandad, Aamir and Shoaib but warned them to abide by code or “pack your bags and go home”.

PCB chairman met the management team comprising Inzamam, Miandad and Haroon Rasheed on Thursday while he discussed the matter with chief selector Aamir on Friday.

“PCB considers this case closed and will not make any further statements on this issue,” a spokesman of the PCB said. Shoaib was also reprimanded for giving an interview in an Indian and a local Urdu newspaper in which he criticised the ICC and the PCB.

“He has been told in no uncertain terms to refrain from making statements that are against the ICC/PCB policies,” the statement added. PCB had received an apology and clarification from Shoaib on Friday morning.

Speechless. The selector gets priority over the captain and the coach. Gee. I wonder if the selection of Junaid Zia had any role to play in this drama.

Exactly...but this was kind of expected...I always knew Tauqir would back up Aamir. If this was any other cricketing board...and they recieved such complaints from their coach and captain...the chief selector would have been out by now...but in the PCB...its the exact opposite.

Miandad and Inzimam has been made to sound pure losers by Zia with all the praise for Sohail, and this does say a lot. This open praise wil only make things more bitter rather than soften them. I m in no doubt Zia is a sincere man to pakistan cricket but Sohail has obviously taken over his common sense otherwise even if he had to back him up, he shouldnt have done this in public right now.

And after this public backing by Zia for Sohail, i wont be surprised if Miandad thinks over his role seriuosly. Imagine if Miandad resigns, (God Forbid) and then look at the prospectuve picture. Rashid, Miandad and Sohail were given the responsiblities of rebuilding the team and only Sohail will remain, make your guesses as who is a pure politician in this scenario.
