LONDON: In an important development in MQM leader Dr. Imran Farooq’s murder case, the Scotland Yard conducted a raid at a business address on Edgware road and carried out a search of an office, Geo News reported Thursday.
According to sources, the UK police conducted a search of an office and also carried out interrogation but no arrests were made.
The police officials said that they were committed to unearthing the murderers of Dr. Imran Farooq. A police team tasked with the arrest of the assassins of Dr. Farooq is steadily at work to solve the high-profile murder case, they added.
The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Dr. Imran Farooq was stabbed to death by an unknown assailant outside his house in central London on September 16, 2010.

KARACHI: London’s Metropolitan Police has confirmed it raided the Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s office located in Edgeware in connection with MQM leader Imran Farooq’s murder, the BBC reported on Saturday.
According to the report published on the BBC Urdu website, the Metropolitan Police’s press office told the BBC late on Friday that MQM chief Altaf Hussain’s business address was searched for a period of two days.
An officer of the Metropolitan Police, named only as Jonathan, told the BBC over the telephone that the office was raided on Thursday and a comprehensive search was completed by Friday evening, says the report.
The MQM is a member of Pakistan’s ruling coalition government and is the largest political party in the commercial hub of Karachi.
Dr Imran Farooq had co-founded the All Pakistan Mohajir Students Organisation (APMSO), the predecesser to the MQM, with Altaf Hussain. He was deputy convener of the party, technically next to the MQM chief.
Farooq’s body was found with multiple stab wounds and head injuries on September 16, 2010, outside his home at Green Lane, Edgware, north London.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement released late Friday that it would be premature and wrong to draw any conclusion about the police raid.
“We are confident that the investigation would eventually help clear all misgivings about MQM which is not only a coalition partner but also represents secular forces in the country,” said the statement by the Foreign Office spokesman.
It was reported on Friday that the police had raided a business office in London with the MQM leader’s murder, and that some important documents had been taken into custody.
However, the BBC reported on Saturday that the Metropolitan Police officer did not give any details about any evidence recovered from the office.
An investigation regarding Imran Farooq’s murder is currently underway, the BBC reported the officer as saying.
It was also reported that several people were interrogated but no one was taken into custody.*

I don't think anything will happen to Altaf Hussain, this case will be used to just make sure he stays in line and does as he is told by his handler in MI6 otherwise he will be locked up at Her Majestys pleasure until he is dead, and they will find someone new to take over the leadership of MQM.
I think that Altaf would prefer to continue with his drunken rants over the telephone to Karachi rather than being behind bars....so he will try to be the good little boy and do as he is told.

ISLAMABAD, Dec 8: The Foreign Office said on Saturday that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was an important coalition partner of the ruling alliance and hoped that “misgivings” about it would be cleared soon.
In an unprecedented move, the foreign ministry came out with a statement amid hearsay accounts about a raid carried out by London Metropolitan Police at a “business address” in the city’s Edgware neighbourhoodon Thursday and Friday in connection with investigations into the murder of MQM leader Imran Farooq two years ago.
The FO made a mention of the ‘secular’ credentials of MQM. “The Muttahida represents secular forces in the country,” the spokesman said.

I think there are some others within the party which can lead it (maybe Farooq Sattar?), but at the end of the day its for the party to decide.

Btw, I'm surprised that no one has been arrested yet in this murder case. I wonder if this has to do with incompetency of British police or complicity in coverup. Something seems strange...

I hope not, but I doubt if he will be convicted. Btw, from my experience the longer this goes on less likely they'll find the killer.

The issue is not entirely with Scotland Yard though, it's a political issue too. With the government of Pakistan shielding the killers and using the same as blackmailing chip to keep mqm in line. It's so much that the British police can do if the government does not provide help to them.

This is not different as compared to the reaction of the government to supreme courts decision on asghar khan case. The government has refused to launch cases against the sharifs and then they will keep on dancing that the courts are biased. It's all the dirty game of interest based political manoeuvring, looto aur lootnay do.

It was really strange for the FO to come to the defence of MQM. The office almost absolved the party by saying that it hoped the party would come clean of it. Though everyone is innocent until proven guilty, why a state department needed to come up with that “misgivings” thing. Even if the MQM is part of the governmnet, the FO should understand that London does not operate in Karachi style.
