LONDON (AFP) – British police on Thursday arrested a 34-year-old man on suspicion of murdering Pakistani politician Imran Farooq, who was attacked in London in September.

"He has been taken to a north London police station where he will be interviewed by detectives," the Metropolitan Police said in a statement.
Farooq, 50, was a founding member of the [Muttahida Qaumi](http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20101209/wl_uk_afp/britainpakistanpoliticsmurder_20101209143404#)(MQM), a major force in [Pakistan's](http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20101209/wl_uk_afp/britainpakistanpoliticsmurder_20101209143404#) biggest city Karachi.

The suspect was also arrested for involvement in an October 2009 robbery.
"Detectives believe there are other people who may hold vital information about the attack and continue to urge them to come forward," the Metropolitan Police said.
"They still want to trace two men and speak to them in connection with the incident."
Both men were of "Asian appearance", in their 20s or 30s with short, dark hair. One was of stocky build, the other slim, they said.
Farooq claimed asylum in Britain in 1999. He was wanted in Pakistan over scores of charges including torture and murder related to the MQM's activities but always claimed the accusations were politically motivated.
He had twice been elected an MP in Pakistan but went into hiding in 1992 when the government ordered a military crackdown against party activists in Karachi.

Re: Arrest made in Imran Farooq's murder case

Pir bhagorra of London must be $h!tt!ing bricks right about now, hoping the killer is not traced back to him...

Re: Arrest made in Imran Farooq's murder case

Very remote chances. Even killers are traced back to Pir bhagorra of London, he might not be touched as long as he is laayal to Her Megisty's Secret Service :)

Re: Arrest made in Imran Farooq's murder case

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altah Hussain in his talk with President Asif Ali Zardari expressed concern over role of civil investigation agencies Intelligence Bureau (IB) and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Geo News reported.

In a telephonic talk on Friday evening Altaf Hussain told the president that the IB and the FIA are providing misleading reports to the government of Britain regarding MQM. The president assured the MQM chief of complete investigation into the matter.

Three MQM terrorists arrested for Dr. Imran Farooq Murder

http://nation.com.pk/pakistan-news-newspaper-daily-english-online/Politics/26-Aug-2011/Three-arrested-over-Imran-Farooqs-murder

ISLAMABAD – The murder case of MQM convener Dr Imran Farooq is nearing its conclusion as the secret agencies nabbed three suspects in Pakistan some days back, while the British police conducted raids in London on Thursday.
Khalid Shamim, who also belongs to Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) is said to be the mastermind of Dr Imran’s murder, and two other youth were reportedly arrested form Karachi a few days back. And presumably, taking action on the leads from the arrested suspects in Pakistan, the Scotland Yard Thursday conducted raids in London. Some 35 police officials participated in the operation wherein they seized documents and other items from a house and an office. However, no arrests were made in the raids as both the places had already been abandoned.
Sources revealed that Khalid Shamim was given the task of killing Dr Imran Farooq in London. He sought the help of a man named Hammad Siddiqi, who provided him two boys both of whom belonged to All Pakistan Muttahida Students Organisation. Khalid Shamim arranged student visas for both these boys. The two youth met an unidentified man in London who briefed them about the routine of Dr Imran, and they killed him near his house on September 16, 2010.
After the murder, both the killers left for Colombo instead of coming to Pakistan. After reaching there, they contacted the mastermind Khalid Shamim, who advised them to reach Pakistan. A secret agency recorded all the conversation between Shamim and the killers and kept the former under strict watch. Shamim had also planned to murder both these boys as soon as they would reach Karachi.
The agencies arrested both the young killers when they reached Karachi from Colombo and shifted them to Rawalpindi whereas contacts were also made with the MQM for handing over Khalid Shamim.
Meanwhile, President Zardari and Altaf Hussain also talked about this issue wherein the latter expressed his displeasure over the issue. A high profile official of the agencies contacted Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad for the arrest of Shamim after which the latter was arrested.
The killers were made to hear all the recording of their conversation wherein they had planned to murder Dr Imran Farooq. After hearing their own conversation, the accused themselves told the whole story to the agencies. Though Shamim presented all facts in different contexts, statements of all the three accused proved similar at the end.
According to sources, UK investigative agencies and Scotland Yard had also contacted Pakistan intelligence agencies and asked for details but Pakistani agencies withheld the details.
To a question that whether the MQM activists are involved in Dr Imran Farooq’s murder, MQM leader Wasey Jalil refuted this notion and said they were waiting for details of the case. He said the Scotland Yard was investigating the case that could provide complete details in this regard.

Re: Arrest made in Imran Farooq's murder case

It had to come out......killing their own is something this group has been known for.

Re: Arrest made in Imran Farooq's murder case

I hope this doesn't go the same way as Imran Khan's attempt to file a case against Altaf Hussain...

Re: Arrest made in Imran Farooq's murder case

I think you will soon see MQM back under the thumb of Zardari. This case will be used by Zardari and UK government to stick Altaf into compliance. I think everyone knew all along who the killers were and they had all the details, now that this snake is trying to raise his head in front of Zardari he is being given a jota to calm down. Otherwise i dont think authroities are serious in bringing the killers to justice.

Re: Arrest made in Imran Farooq's murder case

Most likely!

As there is no extradition treaty between Pakistan and UK, and do you really believe Altaf Hussain allow Zardari to hand over these peoples to UK?

Thus case would collapse.

This is sad fact, and our "great leader would be always innocent although blood is dripping from all of his hands"

Re: Arrest made in Imran Farooq's murder case

In no other country in the world evidence of crime is used as a negotiating tool to gain political gains as openly as in Pakistan. Musharraf used NRO, a blanket pardon against criminal evidence to negotiate political gains for himself. I won't be surprised if there is some criminal evidence in this case against some political personalities.. it will never be used to serve justice.. rather it will be used as a negotiating tool to gain political advantages... just like Moonis Elahi/NICL case..!!!

Re: Arrest made in Imran Farooq's murder case

Here are some news that AH is in some hide out now.
Any news ?

Re: Arrest made in Imran Farooq’s murder case

How about sending this clip to any Bollywood director for casting this drama baaz qaatil, pir bhagorrha of landan sharif as villian? He will beat any villain of Bollywood industry. Zardari should give him award for best acting after killing his own man:)

Re: Arrest made in Imran Farooq's murder case

Would be nice if they could implicate AH himself. From UK's jail he won't be able to control his mafia Inc in Khi.

Re: Arrest made in Imran Farooq’s murder case

The Dawnstory doesnt mention any raid by Scotland Yard though, involving 30 people. Seeing this yesterday and hearing about a raid on Pakistani sources I was looking for any mention of this here, doesnt seem to be even though a raid that big would get mentioned.

Lets hope there is something substantive on the London end of the world. If the arrests are just in Pakistan, and if the news only appears in Pakistan with Pakistani undisclosed sources [as is the case so far] then this will be dismissed as political propaganda.

Re: Arrest made in Imran Farooq's murder case

Also the timeline on the nation story is a bit confusing. The murder happened a year ago. The arrests were made 'some days back'. But the killers were being tracked from London to Colombo to Karachi... did they just take a year to come back? What purpose do murderers have to hang around at their crime scene?

I'd like to believe it if only because Scotland Yard is involved, but theres more questions raised than answered here.

Re: Arrest made in Imran Farooq’s murder case

munafiqat ki inteha hay. Could some one imagine that this person would kill his key person? It reminds me of godfather movie where relations or emotions do not mean anything. Killing the oponents and dissidents is motto of this person.
