I know Iqbal day (Nov 09) was yesterday and I dont even know if thats commemorated in Pakistan with a great zeal or no. Do kids in Pakistan really know who the great philosopher was, and the vision he had for all of us which eventually lead to the ideology of Pakistan.
Somewhere I just read a piece of Iqbal’s amazing poetry, and its just one piece so we can imagine how much entire extract would contain. But I think he pretty much summarized everything in here.
How many of us agree with what Iqbal has said here? Can we discuss?
Whose “allah” are we distancing ourselves from? Judging from iqbal’s allahbad address (indian islam is different from arabi islam aka wahabism is not of india?), I think that Iqbal would probably be declared a fitnah by ba izzat pagri brigade, accused of blasphemy law and then hung from the sills of sialkot jail by a vigilante. The bar council would probably distribute laddoo and would be willing to represent the ghazi for free.
I dont know about his address you mentioned but rest of your post I would agree with. I still think that Iqbal is very under-appreciated philosopher and thats precisely why he is not much cherished anymore (not that I’m aware of).
And there are many school of thoughts who already declare him Kaafir and say he was alcoholic and what not. And the base of that starts from the POV that Iqbal’s message doesnt resonate with their own agenda.
And thats exactly what the last verse of my shared stanza said → “Naara-e-takbeer bhi fitna..” I’m sure he would be labelled kafir on this verse itself.
Not just kids, even most adults don’t know much about Allama Iqbal’s poetry or about other great Muslim heroes of the subcontinent. O/A levels is great for Math and Science education but the way it covers the treasures of literature of the subcontinent leaves a lifelong bad taste with it’s readers. Those interested in literature then get drawn to Shakespeare, Willam Wordsworth, etc. who no doubt are great names in their own right but since many of our educated people lack an understanding of their own greats, it subconsciously brings forth a slave mentality that sees the culture of the subcontinent as intellectually lacking compared to other cultures. The matric/inter system is designed to address all that but due to poor quality of Urdu teachers, the goal was never realized.
These were some of the concerns why Hakim Said started Hamdard school and Madinat-al-Hikmah and established the largest library of South Asia at the time. His team introduced so many programs to teach the new generation about their heroes so they feel confident about their culture when they grow up to face the world. But as we all know he was assassinated. Many people tried to restart that work from time to time but the momentum he built got lost.
Firoun ky ghr musaa, or musaa ky ghr firoun paida hotey rahtey hai.. Plus Javed iqbal was too young when his father left… So his opinion does not make any difference.
app to iqbal kay betay bhi nahi.. aur app to jab paida hoye thay to Iqbal ka beta to app say bohat hi bara tha…to apka to opinion bhi nahi matter karta…
ghalti say mistake hogiya.. kuch dino pehly hi parah tha.. acha laga.. aur main yehi soch raha hon.. iqbal ka lag nahi raha kahin na kahi koi kami hia…
With highest apology… mager hamary han ki darsi kitabon main Iqbal ko separatist ka darja diya jata hai.. jisny Pakistan ki ideology di thi… aea hargiz nahi hia… Iqbal kay khutbat ko tor maror kar pesh kiya jata hia… khud unkay apnay bety bhi yehi kahty hian kay Iqbal thinker of Pakistan nahi hia…
