Well according to the laws, you must not touch the seam of the ball with thumbnails. means do not alter the condition of the seam.
How it affects?? well open to your imagination.

saby, u have opened my eyes ..i am completely with u ..

:D

Well thanks saby!
Appreciate that.

I agree with Saby that unnecessary criticism is unjustified. However, not to analyse a defeat is also not right. Guppies have every right to criticise and point out where they think the team went wrong. There is nothing wrong in that. Healthy criticism is good for these guys. I felt that Rashid messed up in the last match and said so and I stick by my analysis. When you have a lot of experience and there are more balls than runs and you are the only experienced batsmen left, there is a need to be more responsible then getting out by playing a silly shot like he did.

Overall, these guys are doing us proud, win or lose is part of the game and when they are praised for a win, they should be criticised as well when they lose.

I remember before the start of the world cup many guppies here were saying the same thing, dont criticise the team, they will come alrght once the tournament starts, etc. In the final analysis the guppies who were cirtical of the team were proved right.

WELL DONE PAKISTAN!!!
NOW WHERE ARE THOSE CRITICISIN THE TEAM WHEN IT WAS AT 100-6?!?!

thanx saby…finally someone puts the message across

Pakistan into the final with 22-run victory](http://uk.cricinfo.com/link_to_database/ARCHIVE/CRICKET_NEWS/2003/MAY/183856_BAC_20MAY2003.html)

Pakistan 203 for 9 (Malik 74; Vettori 3-34) beat New Zealand 181 all out (Styris 46; Kaneria 3-31) by 22 runs

Powered by a rapid 74 from Shoaib Malik - the highest score of the tournament - and some incisive pace bowling from Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Sami, Pakistan clinched a 22-run victory over New Zealand in the last group match of the Bank Alfalah Cup, thus setting up a rematch in the final on May 23.

Sri Lanka, whose players spent the day relaxing in the blue waters of China Bay, praying for a New Zealand victory, thereby failed to qualify for a home tri-series final for the first time ever.

Had they been watching TV, they might have believed that New Zealand were going to keep them in the tournament. Stephen Fleming’s side recovered from some early hiccups to close in on the target, only for wickets to fall in a heap at the finish.

Fleming and Chris Nevin survived the first barrage with the new ball - adding 36 on 10.1 overs - ducking and weaving against Shoaib Akhtar, who worked up a ferocious pace. However, it was Mohammad Sami who broke through in his second spell, as Fleming, who had earlier swatted him for a six in front of square, edged a catch to the wicketkeeper (36 for 1).

Lou Vincent could have been run out without scoring when he scampered through for a quick single first ball, but the miss did not prove costly as he made a misjudgment and shuffled too far across his stumps to an offbreak from Mohammad Hafeez (40 for 2).

Nevin and Scott Styris knuckled down for a while, adding 31 in 67 balls. But with the run rate starting to climb, Nevin tried to slog-sweep away the pressure away. But he only miscued a Danish Kaneria delivery to be caught on the midwicket boundary by Sami. Nevin made 28 from 67 balls (71 for 3).

The pitch, which was heavily watered on the previous evening, did not deteriorate into the dustbowl that had made strokeplay virtually impossible during the previous two games. And New Zealand duly pushed on, with Scott Styris and Chris Cairns adding 42 in 71 balls.

Even when Cairns was dismissed for 28 – bowled by a Kaneria googly that zipped back through the gate – New Zealand were homing in. Styris, who top scored with 46 from 99 balls, and Chris Harris ticked along at nearly a run-a-ball during a 47-run stand.

However, with New Zealand suddenly back in front for the first time since reducing Pakistan to 61 for 4 in the morning, Rashid Latif called back his frontline pace bowlers. Akhtar and Sami then made sure that there would be no more comebacks for New Zealand.

Two balls after pulling an imperious four, Harris was trapped leg-before for 24 by Sami – a dubious decision with the ball hitting high on the pad. Next over, Brendon McCullum was caught at slip for a duck off Akhtar to leave New Zealand on 161 for 6 in the 45th over.

Latif turned back to spin, and the decision paid immediate dividends as Styris was caught on the boundary in the 46th over. Daniel Vettori (4), batting with a runner, edged behind and Paul Wiseman (2) had his stumps flattened by Sami.

When Akhtar wrapped up the victory, New Zealand - who at one stage needed only 44 runs from 37 balls - had lost their last six wickets for just 21 runs. Akhtar claimed 3 for 36 from 9.1 overs, with Sami claiming 3 for 34 from nine.

Earlier, Pakistan, put into bat by Fleming, had Malik to thank for a spectacular late revival. Crucial partnerships with Younis Khan for the fifth wicket (41 in 71 balls) and Abdul Razzaq for the seventh (71 in 55 balls) resurrected the innings, and in the final overs, Malik pressed his foot firmly down on the accelerator, smacking eight fours and one six.

Pakistan plundered 76 precious runs in the last 10 overs. Like Brendon McCullum had done yesterday against Sri Lanka, Malik had transformed a below-par total into a matchwinning one.

Ok, first let me say that was a good win and congratulations to the team on defending what was probably too small a total. That pitch wasn’t as bad as the others and we should probably have scored something like 240 on it.

Secondly let me say how pleased I was that after the umpire Daryl Harper had changed the ball because Shoaib was seen running his thumb along it, **both Shoiab and Sami went on to destroy the Kiwi middle order with the changed ball **

:jhanda:

Just goes to prove that there’s no need to give the critics any ammunition by doing anything of that sort, especially when you know that everybody is dying to put you down. Incidentally, for a change I thought it was great the way after Ranjit Fernando and Coney had been having a go at Shoaib, Ramiz came into the commentary box and started lauding Shoaib’s super bowling effort which broke the kiwis back completely.

Good on yer Rameez :k:

Rashid Latif was bein criticised in the last match for not using his strike bowlers properly.....he used sami n akhtar well today!!

I might ehsan, I normally go with a few mates but I haven't really given it too much thought yet. Old Trafford's a good one to go to, but I didn't realise it was a day/nighter. I think I probably will go to that one, should be a blast.

Its nearly sold out, so hurry if you want to go and I might see you there.

I’ll look into getting some tickets then :k:

Back to the match, if we are going to have so many allrounders playing rather than specialist bowlers, we really need to start putting up decent totals. Malik and Hfeez are very handy bowlers but they are not wicket-taking bowlers, they are more the type that apply pressure by restricting the scoring. So come on guys, lets see the top order making some decent knocks.

Well bowled Kaneria as well. he really looked dangerous today, though his fielding isn’t up to the high standards of the rest of his colleagues.

well, lets hope we give taufiq umar some rest…
seems he, like afridi, has taken his place in the team for granted…
that guy is STILL nervous when he comes out to bat…
good technique, good talent, i want him to play for pakistam…
but at the moment he aint scoring, so lets see faisal athar open in the final…

friday will be so good if my cable provider, as promised, gets the smart card for ten sports and i can watch it at home…

teaser, yaar the video is so slow :crying:
but when cricinfo was down today, its the audio fomr u that kept the match going for me :k:

I'm backing Taufeeq to make runs on Friday. It's the final and he's a big match player.

we are pakistani and we love our team no matter if they lose or win… when its situation like this 100-6 offocurse who doesnt get mad.. and we only critisize to those players who havent even cross double units, we only critisize to those players ke ODI ke game me u are playin like test match.. but at the same timeee we are the one whose passion is Pakistan and Pakistani cricket, we prays for every single balll ke it shoub be an either boundry or sum good runs… its my team i want to seee my team wins every single match.. i expect all my 11 players to be the star… cuz i love em.. i love em when they make runs.. i dun hate em when they dun.. i just point out the bads in em.. atleast that the least right we should get…

whenever we lose we get sad, we get mad n we keep on mumblin that this dude didnt do welll..i admit it.. but we rnt talkin about anyone who play good… taufeeeq was out in 2 runs.. ppls get mad.. because he wasnt playin well in last game as well and the game before that.. and he was gettin chances..but he didnt play like n opner..but we didnt say anythin about hafeez cuz we knwo he is a good fielder and bowler at the same time.. but still he shouldnt be irresponsible..

i just want to see all my players to score some decent runs… thats all.. and even if some dun.. i still love my team

i dun knwo if i make n e sense to u guys or noo.. but plzzzzz i dun know why u all hav problem when we critisize.. critisize karna koi buri baat nahi… :frowning:

anwayy.. Congrats to Pakistani team
you guys made me proud… :hula:

hav seen the whole battin… great team work :k: two thumbs up for new ppls.. Shoib Malik 74* and yasir hameed 25* Mohammad sami 3 wickets and Danish Kaneria 3 wickets :k:

excelent performance javed uncleee and rashid bhia.. greattt work :k:

now i think they should kick taufeeq umar and replace someone with a new batsman…

yasir hameeed n muhammad hafeeez can make it to great opening pair.. :hula:

PS: may Allah we continue to win like this.. ameen..

He scored big in Sharjah final, hope he scores bigger in this final too. Great inning by Pakistan, great knock by Shoaib Malik. Bringing Yasir Hameed proved to be a good decision. Good bowling by Shoaib, Sami and Danish :k:, a job well done!!

well, i would say this is a young team......7-8 are in-experienced youngsters.......we cant expect them to do miracles.....let them play for some time....even if they lose a couple of tournaments, its fine.....let them groom up slowly.....taufique has the talent.....he is technically correct.....he just needs to learn to take pressure and play in difficult conditions.....and all our other players need to learn the same.....

btw, well done to Pak for making it to the final....Jeo Pakistan.......

Good going Pakistan. :jhanda:

and all kudos to Shoaib Malik for his awesome 74 and a superb catch to dismiss Stryis. Go Malik saab :k:

Welldone to our boys! :jhanda:

is the final on friday? if so i’ma have to try and get this ICT coursework finished by then so i can get the day off and watch the game
