ISLAMABAD: The government has offered the governorship of Punjab to former president Supreme Court Bar Association and renowned lawyer, Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan, reported ARY NEWS.
The offered was made on Thursday when Ahsan - a longtime PPP stalwart presently facing the wrath of party’s leadership due to his active role in the struggle for restoration of deposed judges, separately called on President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani here in the capital.
He has confirmed the offer to the media, saying that no decision has yet been made in this regard, the channel added.
Meanwhile, Aitzaz Ahsan while talking to ARY NEWS’ program Late Edition said that the cases of the beneficiaries of National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) may be reopened.
it's waste of his time... a governor is just a figurehead. someone of Aitzaz's caliber deserves to be a minister at least. actually Aitzaz is one of the few ppl in Pakistan who I would love to see as the PM. we shouldn't waste a great man and leader like him.
PPP is a liberal party and should be considered as a national asset. They need to come out of the family/Zardari dictatorship. I don't see Aitzaz Ahsan accepting this offer as long as rest of the party has become private limited company under the ownership of Zardari. Even if he does I think he will not last long as a governor as he will refuse to compromise on issues.
Liberal/Progressive/Educated/Patriotic Pakistanis are looking towards PPP to give leadership as most of them are really disappointed with Imran Khan and his justifications on the actions of taliban. Pakistanis today do not want to listen to any reason on what-so-ever-basis to justify the actions of these enemies of Pakistan. PPP under the leadership of Aitzaz Ahsan would be probably the best chance for the country.
I do not agree with Kinnare who thinks AA cannot gather 100 people. If he can make civil society and lawyers rally behind him in lawyer's movement which was the main reason for the fall of all powerful illegal dictator, he can make the whole country rally behind him from a political party's platform. Let's hope he gets a chance and he is upto the challenge!

nah, he deserved to be PM or President! he has been federal minister in BB era. only such radical changes can win PPP support in people and workers. as long as AAZ is president and his cronies at important ministries, PPP is bound to fail people and its workers.

AA's governorship means many things. And it could be a preemptive measure by AZ to positively influence the possible consideration of NRO by the CJ.
For AA, it means he is back in the good side of his mother party PPP.

Are you suggesting that Aitzaz should also do hera-pheri like many of his 'esteemed' colleagues in politics. He should if anything maintain his principled stand and not try & influence possible action by CJP on NRO. That w'd only increase his stature in the eyes of the people. All those chors and dakus who benefited from NRO should be named and shamed in public and be forced to return all their loot khasoot to national treasury. There can be no two ways about it.
Yazdi totally agree with you, but few problem I did not say that AA could not gether few hundered people I said AA could not gether 100 PPP workers. Ofcouse he very popular among PMLN and JI workers. and also cilvil society member who are on right.
Problem with PPP is that it worker do not want to work on formula of minus one. Many leader haver tried that in the past and many would trie in future. But PPP is stuck with Zardari.
Zardari has not done anything wrong up till now. Keeping in present circumtances he is up to the mark. Why would PPP leave him? He only needs re-organization and pay full attention to party matters. He should hand over presidentship to some stronger person like AA and focous on organization. PPP can still beat PML(N) in Punjab which seems to be a Punjabi regional party now with no real agenda.
*RAWALPINDI : A local court here on Saturday issued arrest warrant of Federal Minister for Water and Power Raja Parvez Ashraf and others and ordered the police to present the accused before the court on Nov. 21, Aaj News reported.
On Saturday, local court’s judge Justice Rai Afzaal Kharal ordered the police to arrest federal minister, PPP leader Shahzad Kausar Gilani and others and present them before the court on continuous absence from the proceeding.
It was the fifth time the warrants have been issued in the case of the accused including Ashraf, the channel added.

Take it easy. The case is not that important. He thrashed out some one who was filing corruption case against BB and Zardari, most probably on the instrutions of another most corrupt person NS.
He only thrashed out that person, who should consider himself lucky. Had he done this against Don of Karachi, AH, not only him but his whole family ko upar charha deta.:)
