Afridi removed as ODI captain as Misbah will lead in Ireland (All threads merged)

Re: Afridi dropped from Ireland tour?/PCB decides to dump Afridi

no they are the ones who can apply the cream in the right place most of the time..

Afrid’s removal bad decision!

If you think about it, this is exactly how Ejaz Butt goes about changing the Pakistan cricket team’s captains. For me, this is just another failure on Butt’s part. Sure, Pakistan won the 2009 Twenty20 World Cup, made it to the semi-finals in the 2009 ICC Champions Trophy, played well in the 2010 Twenty20 World Cup, and exceeded our expectations in the 2011 ICC World Cup – was all of this Butt’s success or a reflection of the talent in Pakistan?

Just imagine the brilliant results that can be achieved if our talented cricket team were to be backed by capable management.

Butt has not given any explanations for the move as yet, but the widely held belief is that Shahid Afridi was sacked as captain](http://tribune.com.pk/story/171919/pcb-removes-shahid-afridi-as-odi-team-captain/) because of his **differences with coach Waqar Younis](Blogs & Commentary | The Express Tribune).**

Here, you have a captain who just wants his say in the final eleven, not the whole squad, and you axe him. And come to think of it. What if Misbahul Haq wants to play a certain player instead of someone **who has Younis’s backing](Afridi unhappy with Waqar’s role in the series)? Gear up Muhammad Hafeez and Umar Gul, your chances of captaining Pakistan just experienced exponential growth. In conclusion, Butt’s decision does not solve the problem.**

The famous Pietersen-Moores episode has been brought up in equation with this incident. The difference is that Kevin Pietersen had openly talked to his employers, the English Cricket Board (ECB), to find a replacement for Peter Moores. He did not want to work with him. Did Afridi do the same? No. He just reiterated the importance of every individual playing his role.

Why would you want a captain who has led you to 18 wins in 34 matches (all played away from home)?
Why would you want a captain who was the joint-highest wicket taker](Blogs & Commentary | The Express Tribune) at the recently concluded World Cup?
Why would you want a captain who has, against all odds, managed to keep this team united under massive pressure?

Why would you want a captain who led you to the semi-finals in the World Twenty20 and **the ODI World Cup](Blogs & Commentary | The Express Tribune)?**
You would definitely not want him to stay as captain. Instead, you would choose a 37-year-old. I have nothing against Misbah, but he should not be captaining the Pakistani side on the tour to Ireland. For a man who led his squad to a fairy-tale run at the World Cup and brought together the whole of Pakistan, a job many of our celebrated leaders outside the world of cricket have failed to do, Afridi deserves more respect.

We had Imran. We had Miandad. We had Wasim. But, if ever, there was to be a true reflection of Pakistan’s cricketing culture, a strange relationship between excitement, talent and a high degree of unpredictability, Afridi is the man.
Thank him for giving us positive headlines. Thank him for that special something that he manages to pull off in the field almost always.

man … he chose Misbah over him?? pathetic!! honestly speakin, alot of ppl want AFRIDI back!
whts wrong with PCB!! ??? I think butt is the one who should be removed not AFRIDI!

Re: Afrid’s removal bad decision!

If I remember well…Mohammad Yousuf & Younis Khan were banned…after that Pakistan felt the heat to confront the international cricket…PCB had to kiss & lick the underpart of the feet of the aforementioned players to get them back and rescue Pakistan cricket on international level…

Will the PCB will treat Afridi in that manner too…

PS: PCB is getting older but not wiser…hmmmmmmmmmmmm

Re: Afrid's removal bad decision!

The decision they made is:
Remove Afridi and Appoint Misbah as replacement -

that complete decision is wrong. They could have made a longterm wise decision by actually appointing a prospect for future. However they don't have the gumption for those kind of insightful decisions.

Re: Afrid’s removal bad decision!

This just double standard by PCB… oh wait, PCB doesn’t have any standard :bummer:

Wrong decision, it should have been Hafeez or malik.

Re: Afridi removed as ODI captain as Misbah will lead in Ireland (All threads merged)

Come on Give Ijaz Butt a break the guy is doing what he is told to do by his boss

Just to see how Ijaz Butt Sahib has reacted with Successful captains since he is in power

1) Younis Khan was able to hold the team together and won the T20 Worldcup trophy, later he scored a 2 hundred against Srilankans, took the team to the semi-final of the Champions trophy.... it was anticipated that he might bring the team back to track it was then and there when Ijaz BUTT striked and made Yousif the Captain of the team.. we the fans of Pak-cricket are still wondering what happened why it happened... and Yousif delivered by lossing all the matches in Australia...

2) Later came Yousuf, he did what he does best, try to bat out the team and was very defensive against the player power, the board power, may be he knew the the key to stick to captaincy is to loose matches and he did that... still he was removed.. and Afridi Came in a a captain of ODI and T20 and Test as well

3) There comes Afiridi, actually knowing what is going on and it sounds like in few occasions he was culprit behind the removal of captains... Played well in T20, reached the semifinals ( although not in style but with luck), Went UK played series against Australia, chickened out after the humiliating defeat from Australia...came back to lead the side to a lose another series against England...

Later came the SA in UAE, Pakistan did well to loose... same was the case in Asian Cup... and the Chairman Ijazz Butt was comfortable with all this...until suddenly out of no where, Pakistan won against NZ and team managed to make its way in the semi-final after crushing Srilanka, Australia and West Indies...

This worried Ijazz Butt as, there was no news of divisions in the team, there was no news of fighting and no one from the team including Misbah was calling him to throw afridi out.... and Ijaz Butt lost the media attention... his circus business has taken a hit... because his wife was visiting her parents... Ijaz Butt was not having any GAS trouble in his GIANT stomach....

here comes the West Indies tour, the Wife of the Chairman is back.. so Allo paRtha with some Lassi... along with media not paying any attention to him and his FARTS... he decided to use he trump card... the hidden weapon... the golden boy of Pakistan... yes Waqar Younis.... with the help of his mole the coach, Ijaz Butt managed to save West Indies from Clean-Sweep by Pakistan... and then dumped Afridi for bringing Pakistan back on winning track...

Feel Sorry for Afridi but he taken the fruit of same plant he harbored... there could have no different ending...

So who is betting against Afridi lashing out in press and landing himself in more trouble?

No one questions the butt

Re: Afridi removed as ODI captain as Misbah will lead in Ireland (All threads merged)

Malik kahan se aa gaya? or do you mean the way Misbah was brought in to the team and made captain, just like that bring Shoaib Malik back into the team as a captain?

Re: Afridi removed as ODI captain as Misbah will lead in Ireland (All threads merged)

i think so!

Re: Afridi removed as ODI captain as Misbah will lead in Ireland (All threads merged)

malik...kona sa malik janab? wazahat farmayiee....

Re: Afridi removed as ODI captain as Misbah will lead in Ireland (All threads merged)

^ I am talking about Shoaib Malik. The cupboard is so bare that there arent any names on the horizon. My first preference however will be Hafeez.

Re: Afridi removed as ODI captain as Misbah will lead in Ireland (All threads merged)

Shoaib Malik as Captain :sadaf:

Re: Afridi removed as ODI captain as Misbah will lead in Ireland (All threads merged)

jaan kee aman paon to kuch araz karron jahan panah…

shoaib malik is actually not a bad choice…I was thinking abt it…if he has been cleared from the match fixing investigations he may be brought back into the ODI team….mohammad shahid khan afridi has been a terrible linkage between the lower order and the middle order batting for a while and my stand has been that it is not a temporary problem (bad form) but more of a permanent disorder (bad reflexes due to age)…players like afridi have absolutely no technique and they thrive on strong reflexes and exceptional hand eye coordination….at age of 36, afridi is always late in his shots ( especially on the backfoot which has served him so well in his career)….so if we want afridi in the team, he will only play as a bowler and that would be an extreme underutilization of a spot.…
anyway, malik is only 29 (if we trust his age), superfit, shrewd, exceptional fielder, highly experienced, handy bowler, and a useful middle order batsman. he has a a sharp tactical cricket mind and a composed personality under pressure… He is also in a good form and given the talent scarcity that we have, it does not make any sense to keep him out of the ODI team… I also think that marriage with sania should have brought more sense to him and he will not get into petty politics as before…he has not played much international cricket after getting married and I am sure he will be dying to make a point to his star wife that he is also an active international player…

My suggestion : to start, afridi should not have been fired by PCB in such an insulting way…despite his shortcomings, afridi was doing just fine and he could have continued…the way he has been let go will create more division in the team…but if afridi is not coming back, then make hafeez ODI skipper, bring malik back as a player to replace afridi and see how things progress.

Re: Afridi removed as ODI captain as Misbah will lead in Ireland (All threads merged)

Here is my 5 cent

People Whine about Afridi openly saying he wanted captaincy when Malik Got It.

Let's be honest, this guy is a loud mouth, who says it as he sees it. if there were another guy instead of Lala, he'd have said that he had no problems with malik being captain in the media, and he would plot against malik secretly, so he could get the captaincy. we all know Lala didn't do it. Heck, people can check his performances in Malik's Captaincy.

Our Problem is, we like crooks, we don't like HONEST people/

Funny Part is, Malik is hasn't been cleared by the Integrity committee because he cannot justify his earnings, which indirectly means, they suspect him of being involved in shaddy stuff. so he's not in the team.

while on the other hand, is a man, who cannot be bought by any bookie in the world.

Choice is yours, you want to take sides of a shaddy guy, or an honest loudmouth.

Shahid Afridi Considering Retiring From One Day International

Sources close to Afridi say that Afridi is really dejected on the way the PCB has dealt with him on his media leakages about his differences with head coach Waqar Younis.

Earlier on Thursday, PCB sacked Afridi as captain of the Pakistan’s One Day Internationals team and replaced him with 36-year old Misbah-ul-Haq.

The decision was made for Pakistan’s upcoming two-match ODI series against Ireland where veteran top-order batsman Younus Khan will also join the team. Younis who was a part of the Pakistan team for the test series against West Indies came back after the death of his brother.

Good news for all of u guys :jhanda:
