Afridi in hot water (ICC accuses him of code of conduct violation)

Re: Afridi in hot water (ICC accuses him off code of conduct violation)

Agreed. Afridi was a big factor in Pak chances of Winning Worldcup. I hop ethat ban is only 1-2 matches.

Re: Afridi in hot water (ICC accuses him of code of conduct violation)

^ What is wrong with you people? Afridi plays a big inning and suddenly Pakistan team is nothing without him? And before this, he was just another liability.

insha'Allah he will be part of the WC team .. but seriously.

Re: Afridi in hot water (ICC accuses him of code of conduct violation)

There are players better than Afridi, and there are people worse than Afridi. But there is no one LIKE Afridi. (yeah yeah I just modified the phrase)

This is why we need him and altho we still are a very good team without him, his inclusion gives us the 'fear of the unknown'. So lets hope there is a minimum or no ban.

Re: Afridi in hot water (ICC accuses him of code of conduct violation)

Rules are placed there by ICC and every player knows it before they step in to play. If you dont follow them, pay the price.

If you are living here in north america, you might have followed a NBA , MLB game. Spectators give them crap all the time and players are so close to these spectators but still they dont retaliate cuz league has code of conduct in place and almost all of the time players do follow them.

Re: Afridi in hot water (ICC accuses him of code of conduct violation)

Bhai log, according to cricinfo that SOB Speed says its a level 3 offense so I am thinking the punishment will be atleast 4 ODI's. And by the time the mandatory appeal is over, the only thing left will be the WC. This is indeed a big blow to Pakistan's chances, call him what you like but Pakistan's chances of winning are always greater with Afridi playing. Unlike some other passengers in the team, atleast he performs once in a while.

Re: Afridi in hot water (ICC accuses him of code of conduct violation)

Agree with you, its only once in a blue moon that he plays a match winning innings.

Re: Afridi in hot water (ICC accuses him of code of conduct violation)

Goes to show that we Guppies are like Afiridi in many ways...unpredictable.

My take on Afridi is that he should be thought of primarily as a bowler who is also capable of explosive batting when he is on song. He should not be banked upon to deliver with the bat all the time (Remember he first joined the Pak team as a bowler).

Many times a player comes into the side primarily as a bowler and brings undue pressure of public expectation on him by displaying skills with the bat.(think Pathan).

Re: Afridi in hot water (ICC accuses him of code of conduct violation)

Some members correctly pointed out, Why ICC was waiting? when he didn't perform in 20/20 and first ODI, no one complained and now once he tear apart SA bowling and then batting, all of a sudden ICC white Axx boss realized he should be punished. this is simply pathetic.

Re: Afridi in hot water (ICC accuses him of code of conduct violation)

At least our Indian brothers get it. Use Afridi as a bowler who can bat a bit (think Rana Naveed), it will put less pressure on Afridi, keep our expectations of him realistic, and our batting order sane. If we are chasing 450, sure send him up the order, but in all other situations, use him as a bowler, and appraise him as a bowler (he delivers more often as a bowler anyway). We need at least 5 bowlers in an ODI game. A bowler who can bowl 10 overs for 30-4 runs while taking 1-3 wickets is MORE THAN HAnDY!

Re: Afridi in hot water (ICC accuses him of code of conduct violation)

One thing that works in favor of Afridi is that Chris Broad the referee didn't think of the incident as serious enough to bring charges. Can someone other than the match referee file charges? Does Speed watch video of every cricket match that takes place? I think we should only let the referees decide what goes on in a match.

Re: Afridi in hot water (ICC accuses him of code of conduct violation)

Afridi's silly antics might have upset Pakistan's WC plans. Remember Pakistan's first games is against WI who will be no push-overs playing in front of their home crowd.
Pakistan's players need to keep their emotions in check in the face of provocation and hostility from Nel and co./fans and poor umpiring decisions. Any more silly gestures and heated exchanges with players/umpires/fans and more players could be charged by that hawk Speed.
Hot heads like Afridi, Akhtar and Imran Nazir need to take a leaf out of how Younis Khan reacted in the face of aggression from Pollock in the second test

Re: Afridi in hot water (ICC accuses him of code of conduct violation)

I agree but under the trash ICC code, Speed is one of four individuals or groups entitled to lay a charge, the others being the umpires, either side’s team manager and either side’s chief executive officer.

Re: Afridi in hot water (ICC accuses him of code of conduct violation)

The question is who will be heading the actual hearing? If it's the match referee then he may get off lightly since he didn't file the charges in the first place.

Re: Afridi in hot water (ICC accuses him of code of conduct violation)

Good point, and taking this point into consideraion if he gets a minimun ban of 4 ODI's, he should sit out in the last ODI in South Africa (obviously that depends when the hearing result is announced, but I am assuming it will be before the 4th ODI on sunday or right after it). He would be left with 3 more ODI's and he can serve his ban durng the first 3 matches in WC against Windies, Ireland and Zimbabwe.

Great suggestion!!! Maybe Kenya is available.

Re: Afridi in hot water (ICC accuses him of code of conduct violation)

Don't pin your hopes on Chris Broad. He's pretty heavy handed.

**Afridi case will be heard today, Chris broad will be the person who makes the decision **:o

http://www.dawn.com/2007/02/10/spt5.htm

If found guilty of a Level 3 offence, Afridi faces a ban of between two and four Test matches or between four and eight ODIs.

since Nazir was given a green signal, I have a feeling that he will get the max punishment!
