and just when he was getting back on form…
Re: Afridi in hot water (ICC accuses him off code of conduct violation)
4 means he can't play in the world cup opener against the West indies. 8 would mean no group phase match.
in all honesty, I saw him point his bat towards the spectator and I think it was really bad of Afridi. He should get some kind of ban. But what were they waiting for? Why didn't this inquiry start earlier or right after the first ODI? After seeing him the 2nd ODI I thought he got away with it.
Re: Afridi in hot water (ICC accuses him off code of conduct violation)
Assuming the charge is correct, then there is no room for the likes of Afridi. This kinda behavior is absolutely unacceptable and Afridi has a knack of putting his wrong foot forward when he sud be showing constraint.
Re: Afridi in hot water (ICC accuses him off code of conduct violation)
What "they" were waiting for, was for afridi to perform. Typically, someone has to complain, such as SA board or match officials. In this case, none of them did. So it was a little unprecedented (and wholly racist) attitude of ICC to act on its own. What Afridi did was not commendable; however, what ICC is doing is almost as deplorable. Why? because rules are not being enforced equally and universally. The highhandedness in which ICC is operating against colored countries, it might as well revert its name back to Imperial instead of International Cricket Council.
Re: Afridi in hot water (ICC accuses him off code of conduct violation)
where did you get that?cricinfo is saying he has escaped punishment.
Re: Afridi in hot water (ICC accuses him off code of conduct violation)

Re: Afridi in hot water (ICC accuses him off code of conduct violation)
Pak can kiss it's chances if there were any to begin with, good-bye without Afridi.
Re: Afridi in hot water (ICC accuses him off code of conduct violation)

Re: Afridi in hot water (ICC accuses him off code of conduct violation)
compared with Gibbs' racist comments for the spectators and his punishment, yeah 8 ODIs and 4 Test is perfect.
Re: Afridi in hot water (ICC accuses him off code of conduct violation)
Nah i think it will b a single odi and/or single test, becuz he didn't hit the spectator with the bat or sumthing, and shudnt spectators be held accountable for their comments and provocations, what if he called him racist name or something. I don't think he shud get more than what Gibbs got, since Gibbs insulted a whole nation of people, and Afridi got pissed at one idiot spectator.

No, i saw the incident too, and it didn't appear to be a big deal. He didn't chase the spectators, he didn't make it seem that he really was going to do anything, he only 'POINTED" his bat towards the spectator, and at no point it appeared to be more than a gesture of disapproval of whatever the spectator had said. The match referee on the ground didn't have any objections either, and it was only after the biased whining of S. African press that Malcom Speed decided to take some action on it.
We can all understand where S. African press was coming from. Having seen Gibbs banned, they must have been itching to avenge it. This is going to set a very bad precendent. Are we now going to see local press pressurizing ICC into banning a player left and right. Bringing the game into disrepute, PLEASE!!! Save that charge for bigger incidents. This is extremely unfair to Afridi and Pakistan. 5 days after the match ICC wants to charge him!
Re: Afridi in hot water (ICC accuses him off code of conduct violation)
i kno it was...looking at the tape, he shud get a few odi or test ban...
Re: Afridi in hot water (ICC accuses him off code of conduct violation)
Such strict enforcement is only going to create animosity among players and fans where fans in home country are now going to be on a mission to 'get the visiting players."

SA press is comparing it with Gibbs incident so I fear it will be a ban. However, it will not be more than a one dayer in my opinion.
