Afridi in Asia Cup

re: Afridi in Asia Cup

oops. just noticed his SR was 145. :)

re: Afridi in Asia Cup

Afridi looked in good nick for sure but once again he got out playing another unnecessary (even irresponsible) airy shot. With no batters to come after him he should have just looked to play along the ground and bat out the full 50 overs and if he had done so, Pakistan would have got 260+/-. But as always he just could not resist the temptation to go aerial and lost his wicket. That is his undoing in every game!

Had it not been for some sensible batting by Sarfraz in the final 5 or 6 overs, Pakistan’s final score would have been much lower. At one stage they were even in danger of not batting out their 50 overs

Not that Afridi was totally undeserving but I would have given the MoM award to Sarfraz for he really kept us in the game and was the difference between BD chasing 210 or 230+

Re: Afridi in Asia Cup

I take back everything I said about Afridi. Hes our match winner. <3

Re: Afridi in Asia Cup

Not impressed really, a decent performance against minnows but poor against first tier teams.

Re: Afridi in Asia Cup

That has been mostly the story of Afridi's career. As bowler he is deadly against Minnows and mediocre against Tier 1 teams

Re: Afridi in Asia Cup

I do not deny the fact that he played a stupid shot. But my post was about his over all performance today which was in reply to the OP that he was not trying enough. This is extremely unfair :) He was one of the star performers today.

Re: Afridi in Asia Cup

I still dont understand what was so special about his figures that warranted a man of the match award? He scored 32. Sarfraz scored 46, and was not out, and he was the one who took Pakistan's score to some level of decency.

Shahid Afridi is not the threat that he used to be anymore. Batting has never been his strength, and now his bowling is faltering as well. He may have some good days left in him, but he does seem to be bitter over the fact that he is not the captain any more. Time to make way for someone else.

Re: Afridi in Asia Cup

he is at least 36, old, fat and unfit.. hand eye coordination gone forever...and he will be a total liability on fast pitches....i have been yelling on these forums forever that all of our players are +5 yrs old..they lie in their certificates....before we keep giving chances to oldies, get their real age....

Re: Afridi in Asia Cup

yesah after 10 matches, he finally performed...otherwise his ass might be kicked out by wahtmore...

Re: Afridi in Asia Cup

I domt understand. Understating your age is a REGULAR and EXPECTED phenomenon in Pak cricket?

Re: Afridi in Asia Cup

You don’t know Pakistan cricket well enough, then. :snooty: It’s essentially the first rule we have here. Obviously, not everyone is into it (case in point Yasir Hammed and Shoaib Akhtar to name a few), but there are more than a fair share of players who practice this.

Re: Afridi in Asia Cup

all and +5 years is an overexaggeration

a few examples:

Miandad made his international debut at the age of 18 years (-1 day) and he looked 18 then
Wasim made his international debut at the age of 18 and he looked 18 then
Imran made his debut at the age of 18.5 and he looked 18.5 then
Inzi made his debut at the age of 21 and he looked 21 then

I dare say both Hafeez (31) and Ajmal (34) look younger than their stated ages - so they haven't lied about their age

Afridi (32) and Younis (34) ney for sure 2-3 saal ki dandi maari hai!!

Re: Afridi in Asia Cup

Aamir made his debut at the age of 17 and he looked a teenager then. And even in that recent video with Atherton he still looks a teenager (he's 19 now). So I don't think he has lied either (+1 year at most - if you push me too hard I just might accept that!)

**In general players who come into the side at a very young age (as teenagers) cannot really hide their real age

**Hammad Azam and Umar Akmal certainly do not look older than 21

Re: Afridi in Asia Cup

Afridi is still capable of turning matches. He should be managed better by misbah, whatmore and pcb and he can be worthwhile for them.

Re: Afridi in Asia Cup

Right GA, if Aamir would have been lying, that fact would been just as much publicized as his other offence.

Re: Afridi in Asia Cup

Age shouldn't be a factor if a player is fit and performing

Misbah and Younis (took three stunning catches in the Final incl. an excellent running catch and a really sharp one at slip proving his fast reflexes) are still much fitter than many players in the team

Re: Afridi in Asia Cup

How? :konfused:

Re: Afridi in Asia Cup

32-year old Afridi scores 32 runs

Re: Afridi in Asia Cup
