Re: Afridi in Asia Cup

sarfraz was the true hero. Another miserable tour for Afridi after the whipping he got during the series against England.

Re: Afridi in Asia Cup

and i did not take any of those names...this disease was not spread those days... this came into pratcice in late 80s and early 90s...

and not sure how can you claim someone "looks like" of his age....afridi looks 32 to me...

see problem is that I have played some cricket in early 90s in lahore circle and I know a lot of players of those days (not personally but just playwise)...my younger brother also played cricket in lahore for many years..and I am telling you this is a very common problem...

I have anecdotal examples...and if you dont want to trust me, that is perfectly fine...salman butt was 2 year younger to brother in school....my brother is now approaching 33 but salman is listed 28 at cricinfo..he shd be 31...

imran farhat and my brother went to the same school and played together on many occasions....Imran is listed 29 he shd be at least 31....razaq played some cricket for father in law organization....so we personally know he is 3 years older....waqar lied abt his age...younis publically made a blunder and revealed his true age in an interview when he retired from T-20 cricket few years ago...

and you are telling me that they look young and of their age?...salman looks 28 but I know for sure he is not 28...same goes for imran farhat...these players keep themselves fit, so they look young....

see this is morally wrong.....these players make world records and sometimes claim to be the youngest in the history, which may not be true...

i have no idea of Karachi cricket but on punjab side (lahore, fslbd, gujranwala) this is a very common problem....

just go talk to anyone in LCCA (lahore city cricket association)....you have no idea what happens there to qualify for under 19 trails....i ask any guppy who is associated with LCCA process and under 19 trials to come out and tell the truth...

Re: Afridi in Asia Cup

Ajmal 34 (true age) looks younger than Afridi 32 (fake age)

Re: Afridi in Asia Cup

to you may be…to me not really…ajmal does not look younger than afridi..you will ask 20 guys and will have an even split opinion-wise…plus yaar we are not talking about 10 year difference where we can make a definite statement…we are talking about 2-4 years difference…

bottom line is, do we have this problem pronounced and prevailed in our first class? I am saying yes we do…and if you dont agree, that is perfectly fine…yes there may be some players with right birth certificates but majority have a false one…

and dont listen to me…listen to what amir sohail said few days ago…listen what he says starting at at 4.50..there is a reason why he is bringing this issue…he is from lcca and knows very well how widespread this problem is..just look at the expression on amir face..that says it all!

Re: Afridi in Asia Cup

I accept that many players fake their ages (a cultural phenomenon) but it would be wrong to put everyone in the same boat (Hafeez, Aamir and Ajmal to name a few)

Sikander Bakht looks so different these days, almost unrecognizable

Re: Afridi in Asia Cup

Gving example of Amir sohail

Now i know why you are never satisfied with anything in Pakistan cricket

Re: Afridi in Asia Cup

fair enough...guppies know i have been vocal on this topic for a long time...not only it hurts the team in long term but more importantly, it is just a bad practice morally..how can you expect players to behave morally when they lie on the very first step...board shd make it mandatory to cross-check birth certificates that are being submitted...just check against their elementary school record when they were admitted first time....this problem usually starts at under 19 trials.....that is all!

sikandar bhakt is actually looking much better than his playing days....those days he was really skinny...not sure how he took 8 wickets against india...

Re: Afridi in Asia Cup

Yes, Sikander Bhakt was a string bean lean.

By the way Phoenix, looks like you came from a cricketing family rubbing shoulders with some good players. Must have been fun.

Re: Afridi in Asia Cup

I wouldn't be so quick to put Aamir in-between these two, unless it's Aamir Suhail you are talking about. ;) Trust me on this one!

He nevertheless, one of the few sensible and sane voices in Pakistan cricket. :) Frankly he should be given a very high (or dare I say highest) post at PCB, and a guy like him can turn things around. This current regime is at least not as bad as the Butts Era. The two Butts, I mean.

Re: Afridi in Asia Cup

Always wondered about the name Bhakt. It has a Hindu sounding ring to it - Bhakt, Bhakti (devotee). Unless his name is Bakth or Bakht).

Re: Afridi in Asia Cup

What you say about Yuvraj Singh he has been in Cricket since ages and yet he is only 30

Re: Afridi in Asia Cup

It is Bakht = good luck or good fortune as in:

kambakht = someone with less good fortune, unfortunate, hapless
badbakht = unlucky one, Rascal
khushbakht = fortunate, of good fortune

not Bhakt or Bhagt

Re: Afridi in Asia Cup

By extension:

Sikander Bakht = Muqaddar (fortune) ka Sikander or Badshah

Re: Afridi in Asia Cup

Thanks! I had heard the word kambakht - but did not know the origin - had not heard the badbakht and khushbakht words. So badbakht same as badnaseeb. Coincidentally, bad in English also has same connotation!

Re: Afridi in Asia Cup

Though both mean the same I will not use them interchangeably. badnaseeb is a much more polite word

badbakht is also a slang word meaning rascal or evil. I won't say badbakht to someone's face. It is more like a gaali!!

Re: Afridi in Asia Cup

^ Shukriya! Is badnaseeb ko yeh subtlety patha nahin tha!

Re: Afridi in Asia Cup

badbakht = someone with bad luck :chai:

Re: Afridi in Asia Cup

so what’s the difference? :chai:

badnaseeb = badbakht = unlucky one = someone with bad luck

badbakht (also means rascal) is not a polite word though

Re: Afridi in Asia Cup

kambakht = unlucky … you missed train/flight/bus by small time window, you are unlucky one=kambakht. You hopped on train and it got in an accident, you bought a stock and it tanked, you bought a bicycle and it broke down = badbakht
