Yes unfortunately alcohol is always available to elites, even today and even in conservatives nations like ksa. I, however, was more talking about the general society.

Re: About those who drink alcohol

No wouldn't marry someone who drinks alcohol. Yes not all people who drink alcohol are alcoholics however it doesn't take long for one to turn into one. However undoing the process requires much more effort. Personally all the other sins/gunnahs listed by those posters saying people forget these ones are all wrong as well.

But alcohol, like zinna, rape and murder are those that affect everyone around you not just yourself. Alcohol is one that can completely depress a family. I remember a poster a long time ago posting about her husband using drugs and how it ruined her life. Alcohol for me is equivalent to drugs it intoxicates you and takes you out of your senses.

I have friends who laugh that oh I had this soooo many drinks last night and then blurted out random stuff, was all over the place, and threw up. Don't get how that is appealing. Even if some is a social drinker, what is to say that they don't become addicted or start drinking more if they become depressed. It doesn't take long to happen.

Re: About those who drink alcohol

Intoxicants were forbidden in the Qur'an through several separate verses revealed at different times over a period of years. At first, it was forbidden for Muslims to attend to prayers while intoxicated (4:43). Then a later verse was revealed which said that alcohol contains some good and some evil, but the evil is greater than the good (2:219). This was the next step in turning people away from consumption of it. Finally, "intoxicants and games of chance" were called "abominations of Satan's handiwork," intended to turn people away from God and forget about prayer, and Muslims were ordered to abstain (5:90-91). (Note - the Qur'an is not arranged chronologically, so later verses of the book were not necessarily revealed after earlier verses.) In the first verse cited above, the word for "intoxicated" is sukara which is derived from the word "sugar" and means drunk or intoxicated. That verse doesn't mention the drink which makes one so. In the next verses cited, the word which is often translated as "wine" or "intoxicants" is al-khamr, which is related to the verb "to ferment." This word could be used to describe other intoxicants such as beer, although wine is the most common understanding of the word.
Muslims interpret these verses in total to forbid any intoxicating substance -- whether it be wine, beer, gin, whiskey, or whatever. The result is the same, and the Qur'an outlines that it is the intoxication, which makes one forgetful of God and prayer, which is harmful. Over the years, the list of intoxicating substances has come to include more modern street drugs and the like.
The Prophet Muhammad also instructed his followers, at the time, to avoid any intoxicating substances -- (paraphrased) "if it intoxicates in a large amount, it is forbidden even in a small amount." For this reason, most observant Muslims avoid alcohol in any form, even small amounts that are sometimes used in cooking.

I see some people live in that all their lives..If I bring one of these chicks to your bazar, I am sure many a million mullahs will kill for a glimpse....

It's amazing to see that some of us get all our knowledge about how a alcoholic behaves, how a gambler behaves, how a rapist, a crook businessman, or a dishonest police officer behaves - all right out of Bollywood movies. Indian movies is a great source of knowledge for some of us.

Re: About those who drink alcohol

I am interested to know in which part of Pakistan you live? jahan sharabi goom rahe hain aur potential match bi hain

Re: About those who drink alcohol

Well according to TLK's posts, he did state that the prohibition of alcohol isn't something that's being argued, it's already very clear as of 1400 years ago. But he's not very clear on what the actual problem is with all these people stating that they wouldn't marry a drinker.

Re: About those who drink alcohol

In old bollywood movies they show villains taking a sip of alcohol and start attacking women. Maybe that has played a part in demonizing alcohol for Pakistanis. If that is true then bollywood will do us a favor by demonizing other things which are much more acceptable in Pakistan.

Re: About those who drink alcohol

I have observed something interesting in this thread: When asked a question about drinking alcohol, most people can only think of alcoholics. Drinking only means getting drunk to many people here. A person can either be a non-alcoholic or a h***** alcoholic drunk :D and that gives an important clue about our way of thinking i.e. we cannot think of moderate scenarios rather we can only think of extremes. Sounds quite familiar if we look at the situation in Pakistan.

This is unrelated to my original question but I found it worth mentioning here.

Re: About those who drink alcohol

It provokes the desire but it takes away the performance. Therefore much drink may be said to be an equivocator with lechery: it makes him and it mars him; it sets him on and it takes him off. ...... Shakespere

Re: About those who drink alcohol

The question was if anyone would marry someone if they consume alcohol.People said no but then came the liberals picking on everyone.
While you're at it tell me someone who drinks alcohol and they haven't gotten drunk once

Re: About those who drink alcohol

It's amazing to see how you keep making false assumptions about others. Stop using yourself as a reference.

Re: About those who drink alcohol

Really, is it that much of a rocket science?

You can have that glass on my behalf. Choti choti khushian.
