I wouldn't marry someone who drinks. I don't do it...wouldn't marry someone who does.
Also...i think the immediate revulsion to alcohol lies in it's choice, i guess. Taking a loan or a mortgage is something some people can't avoid doing...alcohol is. There are sins such as not praying or gheebat (to a much lesser extent)...these aren't things we consciously think "yes it is bad. Yes i am committing a sin. But i will still do it" - they are mostly things you do and realize, sh*t...i shouldn't have done that. 'Accidental' sins if you will. Alcohol, drugs, rape, murder (not talking abt cases of self-defense etc)...these aren't things you just 'accidentally' or subconsciously/unconsciously do...they are more deliberate defiances of Allah's command.
Idk if i made sense. It makes sense in my head.
EXCUSE ME BIG TIME..Interest is 35 times more sin than zina and Ghibat is worse than sleeping with your mother, and If you claim things about religion that are not true that is Kufr....pls research the following.
A person then asked: "What if this is true?" (That the person being spoken about is actually involved in that sin). The Messenger of Allah (saw) replied: "If it is true then you have indeed backbitten about him. But if it is untrue, then you have slandered him (which is worse)."
Hence to mention anything about a person in his absence which he would dislike is gheebat. The magnitude of the sin, the gravity of this malady could be gauged from the following Ahaadith. Rasulallah (saw) is reported to have said: "Gheebat is worse than zina (adultery)." In another hadith it is reported that there are more than seventy stages of consuming interest, the lowest of which is equivalent to cohabiting with one's mother. To consume one Dirham of interest is worse than committing adultery thirty five times.
However, a sin more severe than interest is the dishonoring of a Muslim (which is a natural consequence of gheebat). (Baiqahi) Engaging in gheebat is also an extremely costly affair. It is reported in a Hadith that on the day of Qiyamah the person who was backbitten about would claim retribution from the one who spoke ill of him. Allah (swt) will compensate the victim by handing over the good deeds (the currency of the Hereafter) of the culprit to him. If the latter has no good deeds to his credit, the sins of the victim would be transferred to him. Hence the Salah, Sawn, Zakat, Hajj, etc. of a person would all be lost due to gheebat. A tremendous loss indeed! How often do we engage in gheebat, yet regard ourselves as free from this crime? This is due to certain misconceptions. Many people assume that gheebat does not apply if one could mention the same facts about a person in his presence. How often does a person retort: "This is not gheebat. I can say it to his face." This, however, is the deception of Shaitaan. The Ahaadith contain no such restriction which excludes the above from the purview of gheebat.
EXCUSE ME BIG TIME…i made a point right after that post further clearing my stance.
Secondly…kufr? Please watch your mouth. I made no such incorrect statement. You need to do YOUR research if you think drinking alcohol is ok and interest is worse lol. Dr. Israr Ahmad is i think one of the biggest anti-interest scholars there ever was…the lectures he’s given on it make you want to die there and then for even thinking of a credit card or loan. However, he states that if u aren’t living in an Islamic society then yes…it’s impossible to avoid interest. Even Islamic banking in the UAE isn’t all halal. The advice given is to take as less interest as possible in a world where interest is everywhere. So again…my point was…sins such as interest/loan and gheebat are those that we don’t consciously commit. Alcohol is percieved as a worse-er thing bcos there is no conpulsion or force or dire need to drink it. It is one of the thigs explicitly stated to be avoided in the Quran.
As for gheebat i never said it was a great thing lol. My point again was…it is a sin u commit unconsciously. It is still a grave sin. By unconscious it means while ur doing it u don’t think…hehehe…i am committing a sin. Its a sin that one commits unconsciously and usually realizes what a horrible thing they did. No one sips alcohol occasionally then thinks ‘oh ****…i forgot what the Quran said about alcohol’.

Where does it say that in hadith you do gheebat unconsciously it should be okay, there is no unconscious gheebat, also never read a hadith that if Dr Isar says it is okay then it is okay to partake in interest, invention in religion is apostasy, I m only quoting hadith why should I watch my mouth, If you get offended by the hadith that is your problem
^ you and Israr refuting the hadith about one Dinar of interest, I am in real estate and just this month I met three people that refused to take out mortgage,
You need Leapfrog... it will better your comprehension skills bcos nowhere did i write that gheebat or interest is ok, both should be avoided - ITS A SIN WHETHER U DO IT CONSCIOUSLY OR NOT. My point was to address the people bringing up again and again why is alcohol perceived as worse by so many people and so i explained.
May Allah help your soul, if this is still unclear to you.
Oh also...please don't be a Google scholar. Don't disrespect someone like Dr. Israr Ahmad...he was an extremely knowledgeable man. If you know nothing about him, don't comment. If you are genuinely interested in an Islamic gvmt system or Islamic society, as per the Quran and our Prophet (PBUH)...listen to his lectures. He is informative...although most of his views are extremely rigid, he is still an amazing scholar.

I choose Hadith over him if he justifies sood, the only human free of sin is the prophet and every one else can be questioned. If you have to sugar coat things to be popular than you r a salesman not a scholar.
Why don't you listen to his lecture and then tell me if he sugar coats? I would LOVE for you to listen to his lectures. He never justifies sood. But u haven't heard his lecture...so u wouldn't know.
I really hope your earlier posts were sarcactic, defending alcohol and zina...
Punk s....The problem I have with this massive hypocrisy is people justifying and trivializing their sins and magnifying other peoples sins, Ghebat s per Hadith is bigger sin than Zina and Alcohol..people citing religion should avoid backbiters, and soodis before drinkers, They will marry a rishwat dude, do milad wazifa with rishwat money do hajj with rishwat and then go tauba on drinker. How do you make a cocktail with the most corrupt and most namazis all in one place.
I have...I have read the Bukhari and Muslim front and back, common sense also backbiting is injurious to people, interest destroys families, societal sins are worse than personal sins, I have seen drinkers million times better than big time Namazis, Bill Gates thru his charity will save tens of thousands of lives and he is a bad human because he drinks.
No one justifies or trivializes a sin. The problem lies in the outright defiance of Allah's command. There is a difference in unknowingly doing wrong, then asking for forgiveness. And knowingly doing something that is wrong...and even justifying it as 'healthy' or 'normal'. The level of sin or whatever...it's the same for both.

I do it because I have faith in his forgiveness, and I really enjoy it.

Ghebat will not be forgiven by Allah, it is up to the victim, It is never unknowing
I'm not discussing Christians...i'm talking about Muslims who drink.
To drink with the expectation/belief that God will forgive me is not only prideful, but also a slippery slope for all sins. Do gheebat without a second thought...God will forgive you. Eat bacon...God will forgive you. ... That kind of doctrine/mantra is exactly what Catholics/Christians do. They eat pork, drink alcohol, sleep around...but expect God to forgive them bcos hey...He loves us. Our identity as Muslims (one who submits to the will of Allah) is lost there.

I read a hadith that a person says Kalimma and repents before death will be forgiven, second about a guy posted never did one good deed, repeat not one good deed murdered a hundred people got forgiveness.

A lot of our sins are our own choices tho.. not wearing hijab is one obvious example.. it's just not considered a huge deal because most of us aren't doing it..
What's with all the hate on interest based loans. Payday (pathan bhai's) loans are horrible, but regular loans are pretty harmless. How else would you convince people to lend and if they don't lend nobody would buy nothing, not to great for the already flailing economy.
Also people can drink alcohol all they want, not like them drinking is harming me or anything.
