ISLAMABAD: Begum Abida Hussain along with her husband Fakhr Imam and some other party members has announced to join the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).
After meeting PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto in London on Monday, the PML-separated Independent Democratic Group (IDG) leader Abida Hussain announced to formally join the Pakistan People’s Party at a joint press conference with Benazir Bhutto.
To a query, Benazir urges MMA leadership to re-consider their decision concerning resignations, saying MMA opposition in the two houses to the bill was heart-breakening for her.
She termed the passage of Women Protection Bill a good step of the current government, saying her party will keep favouring such steps in future as well.
Re: Abida, Fakhar announce to join Pakistan People's Party
In the 1970's they were members of Bhutto's PPP. Then when ZAB was overthrown they became keen members of the Zia regime, and also supported Junejo's PML. After the latter departed the scene they jumped on board the PML (Nawaz), and then when ex-ganja was booted out they became leading supporters on General Musharraf, and Mian Azhar's PML (Q). After losing the 2002 elections, now they have turned full circle and joined the PPP again - ahead of the 2007 elections!
Abida and Fakhar are the epitome of the Pakistani politician - lota's to the core. :)

it’s not sudden..the original core opponents of Nawaz Sharif within the PML-N have all been dispensed with by Musharraf. Much the same way he dispensed with the generals who supported him in the “counter coup” and the people who helped him in the initial belief he was serious about ehtesab. With Nawaz Sharifs party in disarray and more of a target by the establishment..the only place left for a politician from central or southern Punjab is the PPP or MMA.
To give an idea of what these used and abused PML’ers believe.. just read this article

Lotacracy and with the 2007 elections coming up a clear lust for power. Though the sudden influx of feudals into the PPP has caused consternation amongst it’s more “awami” members.
I hope Abida has her degree certificate this time round, because last time (just before the 2002 elections) she went running around Punjab universities to pass some last minute exams to get one. Oh, and she is rather lax in paying her electricity bills as well. :hehe:

^:D Actually there should be a ministry of toilets too! We have a severe shortage of public toilets all over the country and where we have one godforsaken toilet by chance where you can take a leak for no less than Rs 5 payable to a 'thaikedaar' who is responsible for maintaining and cleaning the facility, your kidneys and guts tend to dry out at the mere sight and smell of the place. While a shalwar kameez clad man sitting next to a wall answering the call of nature is a sight ever too native for us Pakistanis. Even beside walls that read "Dekho ^&*%$ p... ker raha hai".
Anyway, sorry for going offtopic, Abida is extremely annoying. Saw her interview on tv few weeks ago and she was as conceited and over confident as ever. classic definition of a pakistani politician; feudal background, money, influence, attitude, shifting political interests based on personal interest, and opinion about everything, even those things that her angels wouldnt mess with, yet she and her likes seem to know it all, and yet have never actually delivered or had anything delivered, except of course baby horses at her horse farms.
Re: Abida, Fakhar announce to join Pakistan People's Party
ok one thing I dont get, BB said during the induction that she wont let anyone who badmouthed PPP into the party, implying that Abida stayed quiet and never criticized her Government... Now I remember Abida issuing statements directly accusing Benazir of all sorts of crap back in the early and mid nineties!

All those who betrayed Nawaz and joined present govt and the dictator are Lotas by any definition.. I neveresaw u write anything about them.. ur definition of Lotas are only who join PPP?
Re: Abida, Fakhar announce to join Pakistan People's Party
Nope, let me elaborate. All Pakistani politicians from Zulfikar Ali Bhutto (FM to Gen. Ayub, Deputy PM + FM to Gen.Yahya Khan, and then CMLA himself) onwards are lota's to the core. :)
Re: Abida, Fakhar announce to join Pakistan People’s Party
the rivalry for lack of a better word was quite nasty, but it had a lot to do with a certain faisal saleh hayat being her family rivals. with hayat now on mushs side both the ppp and abida were backing each other. a comment about the feudal comment about her, her father was a retired colonel and was active in tehrik e pakistan.
Re: Abida, Fakhar announce to join Pakistan People's Party
She and her husband were also long time stalwarts of General Zia-ul Haq's regime, which is another reason probably why PPP supporters seem uncomfortable by their joining.
