Aaj kya pakaaya/khaaya

Re: Aaj kya pakaaya/khaaya

I have never had chukandar gosht before though I love chukandar in salads and I add it to smoothies. I’m generally not a fan of sweet salans such as shaljam…so I imagine chukandar gosht is similar to shaljam gosht then?

Re: Aaj kya pakaaya/khaaya

can anyone please post baked fish recipes, plz. i wanna cook for my nephew/niece next weekend. they have come home for the summer holidays.

also, tell me what sides would go with that recipe. thank you. :)

Re: Aaj kya pakaaya/khaaya

Not a fish fan but for sides you can do baked fries or potato wedges. Season potatoes with salt and pepper, drizzle with olive oil and bake. You can even use sweet potatoes instead for a more healthier meal. Or you can include a roasted medley of veggies such as asparagus, carrots, etc etc. You can do a creamy salad such as cole slaw or a pasta salad. I just love the texture of a creamy salad with fried/baked/grilled meats. You can even buy a loaf of garlic bread from the local bakery and cut into slices.

Re: Aaj kya pakaaya/khaaya

i have made baked fish with these recipes:
pour some lemon juice over fish fillets (just enough to get a little bit on all the pieces). then take some melted butter, add garlic powder to it and drizzle or brush it on the fish. then sprinkle some salt, black pepper, dried parsely. i also add a pinch of mixed italian herbs. then bake till done.
for this kind of recipe, the sides can be spanish rice, mixed vegetable rice, peas rice, or even grilled/baked vegetables.

if you want to make it the desi way, you can add desi spices such as red chilli, turmeric, zeera/cumin powder, salt, ginger garlic paste (or powder), and lemon juice. you can even get shaan fish masala if you want.
for desi fish, i like to serve it with plain white rice and yellow daal (orange masoor).

Palak Chicken Finally. Was lovely.
will upload the pics when I go home.

Re: Aaj kya pakaaya/khaaya

No it tastes completely different. It's not sweet. The flavor changes when it's cooked. Beets in a salad are a whole 'nother ballgame.

Re: Aaj kya pakaaya/khaaya

KKF, this is my go-to baked fish recipe. It's got a mild mediterranean taste, though, so not for kids that need a desi touch.

In a bowl, combine finely minced parsley, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Don't skimp on the garlic here. The mixture should almost be a thick paste consistency.
Arrange your fish in the baking dish in a single layer. Sprinkle with salt as needed.
Layer on the parsley mixture, roughly chopped olives (and capers- optional), and top with a thinly sliced lemon. Dust with paprika.
You can even arrange some whole garlic cloves around the fish to enhance the flavor.
Cover and bake at 350 F until the fish flakes, usually about 20 mins. Cooking time will depend on your fish. I have used white fish varieties, as well as salmon for this.

I would serve this with some sort of rice like a mild pulao or wild rice. Something that won't add a desi taste and ruin the flavors going on.

Re: Aaj kya pakaaya/khaaya

the original recipe can be found at http://thewanderlustkitchen.com/2013/11/08/thai-chicken-with-cashews/; however, i did significantly modify it to taste.

that’s a copper-plated steel haandi. they’re all over the place at Indian stores if you look in the utensils/kitchenware section.

Road Less Traveled…: Recipes for Orange Chicken and Black Rice!

Sara, the texture is sort or like brown rice or wild rice but unlike wild rice and brown rice they are shorter in size. I suggest, if you are not used to the that kind of texture, mix them into white rice. however, they are very healthy for you. Great source of fiber and antioxidants.
