Re: A rishta dilemma.
stoppit, i agree with you but based on the information provided, does it logically make sense.. no degree, no mention of additional classes, and passing exams professional level exams? I mean you have to have the foundation for that somewhere, additional classes?

I have no idea what a CPA or CFA is, is it accounting? I dont think hes an accountant hes a 'business analyst' and supervises a team under him so is a 'project manager'
He works in canary wharf.
Thats all i know so far from dad, dads a doc so doesnt understand these things either.
But I will have to look into definatelty i agree with that bit!

If he has the actual job he says he says (whatever it is, because it's not clear here) and is earning the salary, then it doesn't matter. There are all kinds of jobs within the HQ of a large bank that don't require professional exams. Who says he's CPA or CFA?
My cousin's wife did some course at college (not university). I remember when he first introduced us to her she was working as a cashier in a bank. That was about 13 years ago. Now she works in head office in a very senior position in a very well known bank. They trained her how they wanted. Not a professional qualification in site. It's all about drive and being good at what you do.

Oh.. and did we not learn anything from Stella of The Apprentice last year?
Re: A rishta dilemma.
To OP:
You mentioned you're a physician (or at least in the process of finishing medical school). My SO is also a physician (as are all his friends). I'm not a doctor but I did pursue highter education AFTER receiving my Bachelors.
1) Whenever I meet new people through SO (usually they're doctors)...they always ask me what I do...but in addition, I'm also often asked where I went to school. Not in a rude way...but they ask me where I grew up...and the conversation naturally leads to "oh did you go to school at xyz University". This may sound shallow of my SO...but he has admitted to me many times that if I didn't have my "paper degrees" and has to tell people that I didn't go to Uni, that a little part of him would be bothered. There is absolutely nothing wrong with marrying someone without a college degree...BUT.....you need to be 110% positive that in the future, when YOUR friends/collegues ask your or your husband where HE went to college....that stating that he never finished college will not bother you OR you future husband. B/C IF it does bother either one of you....that's when you start having marital problems regarding to "complex".
2) I know the following scenario is YEARS down the road...but ask yourself....if your husband dropped out of college b/c it wasn't "his thing"....then what will you will your children IF they want to drop out of college? IF your kids ask you "well, dad didn't finish college....then why do I have to go?"...how will you answer them? OR are you ok with your kids not finishing college IF they have a "good job" despite it?
3) I didn't read every single post here but glanced through it. You mentioned he's on London. I don't know anything about jobs in London and am not an expert in finance. But I do know that in most banks (or big business companies).....there is a "glass ceiling" unless you have a degree. Once you get to a certain level, in order to move up....the "bosses" want to see a Bachelors or MBA in order for you to get to the next level. The guy might be doing a "good job" right now...but without a "paper degree"....how far will he get in the finance industry 10 years from now?
4) Since you're in medical school, it's understandable that he may earn more than you right now. BUT once you finish everything and become an attending, how will your salary compare to his 6 years from now? Will you be making significantly more than him? IF so, then make sure this won't cause a "complex" in him. I know 2 couples where the wife earns more and both have "issues" in their marriage as a result.
Re: A rishta dilemma.
SO exactly what Industry certification ?
Mostly these certifications and Diplomas only require you to have a high school cert combined with couple of years - professional experience ..
But having an Under graduate degree is a MUST thesedays - as without it you dont even qualify for entry level jobs . Even in IT and Telecom sector , those days are gone - when one can get jobs after completing a diploma or doing industry certification..
what really makes me think here is , his attitude towards not getting a university degree ... as if he had one - he would have gained alot of exemption on his certification programs.
Let for the sake of argument say if some one is willing to do ACCA certification [a course for some one willing to be a chartered certified accountant] after completing his/her Under graduate degree - he /she would get exempted for first two parts .... the accountant lot at GS can correct me if i am wrong
Even I was a university drop out at one point in me life - I left my MBA but then I realized the importance of it and went back to complete it .... But luckily I have two undergraduate degrees , which supported me throughout my career - so I really never had the block tunnel ....
I say , , Later or sooner - he has to get a degree , if he really want to excel in his career ..... A must if you want to move to a senior level position in your life ..

If you are in Sales or Admin - then probably you dont need a University degree .... Else then that even for a relationship manager 's job , Banks and other financial institutions prefer some one with atleast an under grad degree ...

I see alot of people saying he will not be able to progress, ill have to think about this!
Re: A rishta dilemma.
^ Meet him with an open mind.. Who knows, despite all this he could perfectly click with your personality
And please just keep in mind that at the end of the day rizq is from Allah.. Wishing you all the best :)
(btw I'm a medical student and I have my exams next week and I'm so procrastinating here right noww :D)

The core certifications for Business Analysts are CCBA and CBAP
even for getting CCBA which is The Certification of Competency in Business Analysis - You need following
Minimum 3750 hours of BA work experience aligned with the BABOK® Guide in the last seven years
Minimum 900 hours in two of the six knowledge areas or 500 hours in four of the six knowledge areas
Minimum 21 hours of Professional Development in the past four years
Minimum high school education or equivalent
CBAP is the next level ...
so now it leads us to next question - his work experience in years ?
for Project Managers - people take PMP and Prince2 certifications - I have both and believe me it is just icing on the cake - of no use , if the cake is not there :) you know what I mean
Ask for his CV - to know what projects he has done so far ....

Okay cool thanks for the info!!
Is this on an international level? like same for UK and USA
And maybe im being really dumb, but i dont know what you mean haha
Re: A rishta dilemma.
yup - the mentioned are standard International Certifications for BAs and PMs .... And I meant these certifications are almost useless , if you dont have a primary degree in your concern field or a relevant work experience ....

I don't agree. My cousin's wife, and I can give other examples, are not in sales or admin. Prefer, yes. Always the rule? Far from it.

Yeah canary wharf is the wall street of the uk:)
Re: A rishta dilemma.
Well I know many people without a degree who get jobs in the finance world and make it big and ive googled him and he definately works there in a good position so I dont think he is lying but I am still going to look into it more.
But most people get degrees. I dont doubt his job at all, I just dont know how i feel about the importance of a uni degree.
**well...it's beyond belief...i wonder if he is holding a 'commission-based' job...more like a salesman. it's NOT possible to secure a "professional" job without a Univ. degree...people with relevent high degrees can't find a job good enuf to pay their bills, let alone a high paying professional job!
if it's true, he must be a genius and if he is then i wonder why he couldn't finish a degree.**
Re: A rishta dilemma.
It's called getting your foot in the door and working your way up.

No hes in a professional job, i can see everything on his online profile on linkedin. I dont think you can really lie on that to be honest as companies use it and you cant get away with it.
Its really not beyond beleif lots and lots of people i know have professional jobs in the finance world at very high position without a uni degree.
With this guy im not doubting his job, i just think why not finish the degree? what values does he hold about education? etc
